As we start this college basketball season just wanted to say thanks in advance to all that will drop in this thread all year and make viewing college basketball even better. Not sure how long we have been doing in this thread I just know it’s part of my college basketball watching experience. If you are new to here and love all college basketball jump on in and post with us about all the games. With the football team kicking butt some might be late to party in here this year but we will keep the light on for you. The moment in this game where I truly saw that IU has turned the corner on being a modern college basketball team was when they broke the press and DeVries drained a 3 in rhythm in transition. Beautiful to see. I’m sure they will have some growing pains this year however seeing that play brought a smile to my face. My favorite play of the exhibition

Program isn’t where most want it but if they pull a top 50 recruit after missing out on a top 10 target then that tells me IU as a program still has a little juice left in it. Would be an impressive back up for a first year coach to pull a top 50 recruit from other programs that had been in on him longer. Long way to go but would be a step in the right direction.

The disconnect with fans and IUs high school recruiting in my opinion comes from the fact the basically the last time we had a coach that put in effort on the high school avenue was back with Archie over 4 years ago. Sure Woody had some success with landing highly rated high school kids but none of them were long term recruiting wins. IUs footprint in high school recruiting has been non existent. DeVries seems to get it and has made himself visible in the recruiting world. He seems to have no problem grinding and doing the work even if the results hasn’t shown up in the first cycle. Establish connections on the recruiting trail again for your program and maybe down the road you get IU back in the game that they have sorely been absent from. Looking back at high school recruiting that IU as a program has had since Archie’s last year through this year will make you not feel well. The number of those kids that were only here 1 year to help or left before they could contribute to the program and it’s no wonder the program is where it’s at today. Results might not be there yet but the fact they have a coach willing to roll his sleeves up and actually recruit like the job demands is nice to see in my opinion.

He recruited Brown and Jackson and they were out of the top 40. Brown went to Vandy and Jackson went to VCU
