(2022) - PF Kyle Filipowski to Duke
Class of '66 Old Fart replied to ap2345's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
More from this past weekend. Kyle Filipowski (2022 | NY Renaissance | Wilbraham & Monson, Mass.) It’s true that we didn’t see every player in action on Saturday, but it’d be tough to bet anybody had a better day than Filipowski. In a game against the elite-level Team Final frontcourt of Jalen Duren (No. 2 in 2022 per 247Sports) and Dereck Lively II (No. 36), it was Filipowski who stole the show. The 6-foot-10, 230-pound big man did just about everything: bodied up inside against the 6-10 Duren and 7-1 Lively, grabbing four offensive boards; stepped out and knocked down three 3-pointers, with a gorgeous rainbow stroke; ran the fast break and found teammates on the move, making several other pinpoint passes in the half-court offense. That he hit all eight of his foul shots was icing on the cake. Oh yeah, and the Rens dominated Final, considered the top 17U group in the country heading into the offseason, in large part due to that frontcourt. “It’s no surprise, I know what my team is capable of,” Filipowski said afterwards. “We really played the best of the best today. I’m so proud of the guys, we played really good together and it shows at the end of the day.” By the end of the 73-58 win, Filipowski had piled up 21 points and six boards, outscoring Duren and Lively by himself. Though he’s certainly not lacking in the size department, Filipowski moves like a guard, with terrific body fluidity and athleticism to finish above the rim with ease. He said that comes from growing up with his twin brother, seven-footer Matt Filipowski (who wasn’t in attendance Saturday). “He’s always played the ‘5’ spot so I’ve had the opportunity to dribble the ball more, play around the perimeter a little bit more,” Kyle Filipowski said. “Growing up, even though I”ve been growing a lot height-wise, I’ve been trying to focus on keeping everything about me in the best shape possible.” A New York native, he’s considered a four-star recruit by 247Sports, which has him just inside the top 60 nationally. But with several more outings like that, especially during live periods, there’s no doubt that ranking will skyrocket towards five-star territory. Already this month, he’s picked up offers from Indiana, Syracuse and Rutgers, adding to a list of more than 20 offers, mostly from high-majors. He said he was hearing regularly from “at least 10-plus...I’ve got plenty of schools, too many to name. As of now I’m still waiting for Peach Jam and things to open back up so more can come and see me.” Filipowski said he already has planned official visits to Syracuse and Ohio State, as well as an unofficial visit to UConn, and that he’s trying to schedule an official visit to Indiana as well. No matter where he ends up, or how high his stock continues to rise, Filipowski said his intent is to get the most out of his collegiate experience, earning his degree before exploring any further stages. “Obviously one of my dreams is to win a national championship so I definitely want to be able to play on the biggest stage there is,” he said. “Academics are very important to me, I want to get my degree in 3-to-4 years and see where ball takes me after that.” ~~~ -

Bossi on Xavier Booker from the Hensley Run-N-Slam - For the second time in the last month, big man Xavier Booker of the George Hill Indy All-Stars had some eye-opening moments. He’s still raw and needs to get significantly stronger, but the tools to be a big riser this spring are all there. Booker runs well, he can already step out and drain three-point jumpers at 6-foot-9 and he’s a bouncy finisher around the rim. Booker got his first high major offer from LSU in early April and it won’t be his last.

(2022) - PF Kyle Filipowski to Duke
Class of '66 Old Fart replied to ap2345's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Commentary from this past weekend at the KYDA Invitational held in Scranton, PA. -- Kyle Filipowski (2022 | NY Renaissance | Wilbraham & Monson, Mass.) The most impressive player in the gym Saturday regardless of class was this 6-10, 230-pound forward, though ‘forward’ doesn’t really encapsulate his game. Sure, he can score inside and rebound, as well as face up in the high post, but he has a handle most wings would envy, able to run the fastbreak with his head up and make plays, and he’s got a gorgeous rainbow shot from the 3-point arc. His 21-point, six-rebound effort against Team Final, where he knocked down all three of his triples, was a thoroughly eye-opening outing in all aspects. -

Really encourage everyone to read this. Most of what we read about commits and targets relates to the game of basketball but this is a great peak into a life apart from basketball and the events that can shape lives. -
Foregoing his remaining year of eligibility and turning pro.

Endless Motor Sports - Strong performance for 2022 Kyle Filipowski for NY Rens EYBL at the KYDA Invitational. Versatile + skilled 6’10 Forward is a walking mismatch. Good ballskills + shotmaking ability while having the size/length to impact the game in the paint. Very undervalued by mainstreams. -
Trevor Andershock - Joey Hart (2023) is getting to the rim frequently for Grand Park Premier, and Midwest Basketball Club has not bothered him once he reached the restricted area. He has 13 points, but GPP trails 23-21 at the half. He finished the game with 23 pts. and 5 reb. as GPP defeated MBC. Trent Markwith of Relentless Hoops: Everything comes easy to 2023 SG Joey Hart. He filled it up effortlessly in both games I watched today, averaging 18.5 PPG. Calm, mature wing who has a well-rounded game, good size, and just goes about his business. Gets up above the rim quickly.

Trevor Andershock on this morning's game - Jalen Washington and Kam Craft with 14 a piece as Meanstreets hold on by 5 against Nova. Bossi on Saturday's performance -- Currently ranked No. 22 by 247Sports and No. 20 in the industry generated 247Sports Composite ranking, Washington put on an impressive display of skill and touch as he continues to evolve and adjust as a player. When he first hit the scene two years ago, Washington was a long and lanky four man with some athleticism and ability to get out in transition. Now, he’s overcome a knee injury and has turned himself into a skilled faceup player. His footwork in the post is well above average, he is a very dangerous shooter from deep and he has a presence on the floor beyond his years. The maturity he plays with is remarkable. Whether it is nearby Purdue, Indiana, Michigan State or any of the other programs chasing him, whoever gets him will be happy to coach him.

@Hoosierfan31 your schtick is getting old and very irritating maybe you should find someone else's yard to play in. You make it quite clear that it's a personal vendetta on your part and you're contributing nothing of value to this thread. -
Trevor Andershock from the Hensley Run-N-Slam -- Brauntae Johnson had a great freshman year for Fort Wayne North Side. On Saturday, he solidified his spot as one of the top freshmen in the state with his performance against the Wisconsin Playmakers. Tae is an athlete six-foot-two guard, and Johnson is every bit of six-two. He has wiggle off the bounce and can finish above the rim. Johnson was inconsistent from three during the high school season, but he hit a triple in the double-overtime win, and his free-throw motion looked good. He finished with 15 points in the win. Johnson is one to remember in 2024.

Trevor Andershock - Jalen Washington turned in a great performance against Team Teague. It was the best Indiana Basketball Source has seen him play this travel season. He was nailing shots from all over the court – pick and pop threes, trailing threes, face-up jumpers in the mid-range, finishing at the basket. He was also a force on the boards with multiple effort and out of his area rebounds. Washington displayed why he is the top prospect in the state’s 2022 class as he pushed Meanstreets to the win over Team Teague.

No idea how much interest we're showing in Comer. Trevor Andershock - Cathedral’s Tayshawn Comer produced in each area as Indy Heat 17U beat Kingdom Hoops. Early on, the point guard drove to the basket with ease. Once he was there, Comer finished with high arching shots and layups. Comer’s outside shot continues to develop. He nailed a couple of contested shots in the victory. His overall game is progressing well. Trent Markwith of Relentless Hoops -- Tayshawn Comer attacked early & often to help Indy Heat build a 20-point 1st half lead this morning. Got himself going from deep first and used his strength & quickness to make things happen in the lane. Looked like he was out to make a statement against another good PG.
