  1. New Albany defeats Floyd Central 68 - 46.  Langford with 34 pts.
  2. A valiant effort at the end, but simply too little too late.  NW's shots fell and ours didn't.  Northwestern wins 79 - 73 led by Nia Coffey's 26 pts. on 11 of 23 shooting  As a team NW was 32 of 69 from the field for 46%.  Conversely, we could only hit 26 of 67 for 39%.  Particularly rough game for Buss.  Really hard fall on her left elbow that she shook off as well as getting beat up most of the game, but her shooting touch was off the whole game as she only hit  4 of 18 from the field.    Cahill with 23, Buss 16 and Gassion with 11 pts.  Cahill with 13 reb.  We only committed 13 TO's, but several were unforced.    Now we wait for Sunday and the NCAA Women's Tournament pairings. .
  3. We're a step slow on the NW drives and shutting of the lanes.  We're the one ones that look like we've played 3 games in 3 days   69 - 63 NW leads with 4 min. remaining.
  4.   Hope CTC took notes on how to run that in-bounds play!
  5. OOPS, my bad.  Somehow, we pulled off a spectacular in-bounds basket with .5 sec. remaining in the 3rd quarter and NW leads 54 - 51.
  6. I'm getting nervous that NW is still controlling this game.  My god, they've got to be tired since it's their 3rd game in 3 days but they certainly don't act tired and we're getting banged around pretty good with no calls.   End of the 3rd quarter and NW still leading 54 - 49.   We can't pull our shooting % up and that's the key difference in the game.    Buss with 14, Cahill 11 pts.  Cahill with 9 reb.    Come on Ladies, dig down and run them out of the gym in the 4th quarter.
  7. Tied at halfitme  35  -  35.  Buss 10, Cahill 9 pts.  Cahill with 7 reb.     Nia Coffey is killing us and has 19 pts.     IU still only shooting around 35%.  Northwestern's shooting cooled a bit but they're still over 40% for the half.
  8. Uh oh!  This does not look good for Tyra.   But upon further review, maybe not nearly as bad as it first looked.  WHEW!  She's back in the game!
  9. End of the 1st; NW 21, IU 18.   Buss with 6; Cahill with 5 pts.    NW shooting 50% from the floor; IU only 35%.
  10.   I've followed Iowa all season because of Whitney Jennings.  A), They did play a hard game yesterday.  B )  They've been weak interior defenders all season.  C)  They've not been a particularly good shooting team.  Maryland is good, but not invincible.  Our Lady Hoosiers have really come on strong and they are more than capable of knocking off MD just like the men will do this weekend.
  11.     Thanks, but it's pretty simple to 'Copy' and 'Paste'.
  12. PG by committee with RoJo as our lead PG until we advance closer to B1G and then who knows.  Too many new faces.  I'm not overly concerned at losing Yogi simply because I think we've got some really talented freshman (and Newkirk) who will be able to give us 75-80% of Yogi.  Morgan and OG will help us pick-up some of Yogi's point production that next year's PG might not contribute on an ongoing basis.  One thing I think (and hope) we'll see less of is our PG running 25 seconds off the shot clock and then the frantic effort to get a shot up before the shot clock expires.  Yogi's a great PG for us, but that is one criticism I have about his overall style of play.  I hope next year we see a lot more ball movement from the moment our PG crosses mid-court.
  13.     October 2015: MACON, Ga. – The Atlantic Sun (A-Sun) Presidents' Council announced it has granted the Stetson Men's Basketball program partial relief from conference sanctions for the upcoming season through the conference appeal process. Earlier this year, Stetson received national sanctions, including a ban from the 2016 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship, for missing the NCAA academic performance rating (APR) standard by one point.    [more on this at:  http://www.news-journalonline.com/article/20150527/SPORTS/150529540 ] The decision by the Council permits the Hatters to play in the 2016 Atlantic Sun Men's Basketball Championship. Stetson will realize a reduced conference revenue distribution for 2015-16, all of which will be directly invested in its new Leadership and Mentoring Program designed in-part to address student-athlete retention issues. Stetson faced NCAA sanctions after falling below the APR postseason qualification threshold when an NCAA audit resulted in a single change to 2012 calculated results. The one retention point change, in combination with Stetson voluntarily permitting men's basketball student-athletes to depart in the interim, all of whom are making satisfactory progress towards degree completion at other institutions, led to the penalty. "We deliberated with focus on Stetson's academic standing and the state of its current program," the Council shared in reaching its decision. "Our balancing point was imposing a penalty to match the 2012 offense, especially when current student-athletes' opportunity to compete is at stake. Our unified commitment to the academic success of our students is paramount and this led us to conclude this matter with a thoughtful, timely definition of Stetson's upcoming season." The A-Sun Presidents' Council does not have purview over the Stetson men's basketball team's ineligibility for the NCAA Championship or National Invitation Tournament, sanctions which remain in place. Should the Hatters win the A-Sun Conference Tournament, the NCAA Automatic Bid will be awarded to the regular season champion, as detailed in the attached policy. A-Sun NCAA Automatic Qualification (AQ) Policy If an ineligible school wins an A-Sun Tournament with AQ at stake, then A-Sun regular season champion will be the AQ recipient; and If an ineligible school also finishes as the A-Sun regular season champion, the highest eligible finisher based on regular season play will be the AQ recipient; and If a tie exists for the highest eligible finisher in regular season play, the team advancing the furthest in the A-Sun Tournament will be the AQ recipient; and If tied teams advance equally in A-Sun Tournament play, the higher seed will be the AQ recipient.
  14. No. 4 Indiana (20-10, 11-7) vs. No. 12 Northwestern (17-15, 4-14) Big Ten Tournament Friday, March 4 • Approximately 2:30 p.m. ET Bankers Life Fieldhouse • Indianapolis, Ind. Television: Big Ten Network or BTN2Go Radio: IU Radio Network (Greg Murray)   First game for the Lady Hoosiers in the 2016 Big Ten Tournament.  They've had an incredible season and hopefully will add to this year's successes on Friday against Northwestern.   This will be Northwestern's 3rd game in as many days.    Fourth-seeded Indiana will begin Big Ten Tournament play on Friday, March 4 in the quarterfinal round in the second game of the afternoon session at approximately 2:30 p.m. ET inside Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind.  The Hoosiers receive a double bye with being one of the top four seeds in the 14-team tournament format. IU will take on 12th-seeded Northwestern after the Wildcats defeated 13th-seeded Wisconsin and fifth-seeded Minnesota to advance.    DID YOU KNOW? • Indiana's No. 4 seed in this week's Big Ten Tournament ties for the best seed in program history in the conference tourney. IU was a four seed in 1998. • With IU receiving a double bye, it marks the 12th time that the Hoosiers have appeared in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals with the last appearance taking place in 2009. • The Hoosiers won the Big Ten Tournament Championship in 2002 and hold a 15-20 all-time record in the event. • IU's fourth place regular season finish in the Big Ten standings is Indiana's highest conference placing since tying for third place in 1997-98. • Teri Moren was named Big Ten Coach of the Year for the 2015-16 season, becoming just the second coach in program history to earn the award (Maryalyce Jeremiah, 1983). • Tyra Buss was named First Team All-Big Ten by the conference coaches and media. She is the first Indiana player to earn First Team accolades since 2006 (Cyndi Valentin). • Amanda Cahill earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors by the conference media and honorable mention accolades from the coaches. • With both Buss and Cahill receiving All-Big Ten recognition, it is the first time a pair of Hoosier players have earned all-conference honors in the same season since 2010. • Indiana's 20 wins this season are the most regular season victories in program history. The school's most wins in a single year (including Big Ten Tournament and postseason) is 21 (five times). • IU's 12 Big Ten triumphs this season are the second-most conference victories in program history and the school's most since 1982-83 when IU won a share of the conference title with a 15-3 record. • The Hoosiers were a perfect 14-0 in Assembly Hall, the longest such streak without a loss at home and tied for most home wins in school history. IU was the only Big Ten team without a home loss in 2015-16 and one of only 16 teams nationally without a home defeat (as of Feb. 29). • IU defeated three ranked opponents this year, tying for the most wins over ranked foes in regular season play in program history. It was just the fourth time ever that IU had defeated three ranked foes in regular season play, the last coming 1997-98. • The Hoosiers won their most road Big Ten games since 2008-09. • The 2015-16 Hoosiers ended the regular season tied for the third most free throws made as a team in a single year in program history with 480. That total ranks second in country heading into the Big Ten Tournament. IU has outscored opponents 480-280 (+200) from the free throw line this season. • IU shot 50 percent or better from the field in eight games this season, the most games of shooting better than 50 percent in a single year for an Indiana team since doing so eight times in 1997-98. • Sophomore Tyra Buss broke the school record for most points scored in freshman and sophomore seasons played as she now has 933 career points. Buss' 571 points this season is the sixth most points ever scored in a single year in program history. She has scored in double figures in every game in 2015-16 and in 34 straight dating back to last year, the longest such streak for IU player since 1998. • Buss is tied from the school record for most free throws made (187) heading into the conference tournament. • Cahill had 10 double-doubles during the regular season, the most for an IU player in single year since 2008-09. In Big Ten games only, Cahill averaged 15.5 points and 9.4 rebounds per game, making her one of only three players in the conference to average those totals in league play.   INDIANA IN THE BIG TEN TOURNAMENT Indiana holds a 15-20 all-time record in the Big Ten Tournament. IU won the conference tournament title in 2002. The Hoosiers were the fifth seed that year and knocked off fourth-seeded Iowa, top-seeded Purdue and second-seeded Penn State en route to the tournament championship. Indiana won its first game since 2009 in the Big Ten Tournament last year over Penn State.   WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES From 2014-15 to 2015-16, Indiana improved its overall win total by five games, its Big Ten win total by eight games and improved on a 12th-place finish in the conference standings last year to fourth place this season.  The improvement of eight wins in conference play and the jump from 12th to fourth place are the biggest leaps between two seasons in program history in each of those categories.   HOOSIERS TIE FOR HIGHEST B1G TOURNAMENT SEED IN SCHOOL HISTORY Indiana's No. 4 seed in this year's Big Ten Tournament ties for the program's highest seed ever in the conference tourney. The 1997-98 Hoosiers were the only other IU team to earn a No. 4 seed in the Big Ten Tournament. That 1997-98 squad finished the regular season in a third-place tie in the conference standings.   TERI MOREN NAMED BIG TEN COACH OF THE YEAR Indiana head coach Teri Moren was named Big Ten Coach of the Year by the conference coaches and media on Feb. 29. Moren becomes the second Indiana head coach to be named Big Ten Coach of the Year, the first being Maryalyce Jeremiah in 1983. Moren led the 2015-16 Hoosiers to 20 wins, the most regular season victories in program history, and a fourth place finish in the Big Ten standings with a 12-6 record in conference play.  IU's fourth place finish was the school's best since tying for third overall in 1997-98, which was also the only other time in program history that the Hoosiers earned a No. 4 seed in the Big Ten Tournament.   The Seymour, Ind., native earns her first career conference Coach of the Year award at the Division I level. Moren was named Great Lakes Valley Conference Coach of the Year in 2003.  Moren has won 20 games in a season in two of the last three years (20 wins at Indiana State in 2013-14).   BUSS, CAHILL GET ALL-BIG TEN NODS Sophomores Tyra Buss and Amanda Cahill earned All-Big Ten accolades as announced by the conference office on Feb. 29. Buss was named First Team All-Big Ten by the conferences coaches and the media. Cahill earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors as voted on by the media and was an honorable mention in the coaches ballot. Buss becomes the first Indiana player to earn First Team recognition since 2006 (Cyndi Valentin) as it is the first time a pair of Indiana players earned All-Big Ten recognition in the same season since 2010.   INDIANA SETS SCHOOL MARK FOR MOST REGULAR SEASON WINS With the win over Penn State on Feb. 27, the Hoosiers ended the regular season with 20 wins, the most regular season victories in school history. The program record for most overall victories (including Big Ten Tournament and postseason games) is 21 (5 times).   SECOND MOST BIG TEN VICTORIES AT IU The PSU win allowed the Hoosiers to finish the Big Ten schedule with a 12-6 record in conference play.  The 12 wins are the second most Big Ten victories in a single year in school history and the first time IU has won 12 conference games since 1982-83 when the Hoosiers won a share of the Big Ten title with a 15-3 record.   MOST ROAD BIG TEN WINS SINCE 2008-09 Indiana picked up its third Big Ten road victory on Feb. 24 at Nebraska, marking the program's most conference regular season road wins in a single year since 2008-09.  IU won five Big Ten contests on the road that season.   THE FRIENDLY CONFINES OF ASSEMBLY HALL Indiana ended the regular season with a perfect 14-0 record in games played inside of Assembly Hall, marking the most home wins without a loss in program history. The Hoosiers were the only team in the Big Ten to not suffer a home defeat this season and one of just 16 teams nationally without a home loss (as of Feb. 29). Home wins this year were highlighted by nine Big Ten victories, knocking off two ranked opponents, winning two games in the Preseason WNIT and defeating Georgia Tech in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.   HOOSIER EFFICIENCY Indiana shot 51.9 percent from the field in the win at Nebraska on Feb. 24. It marked the eighth time this season that IU has shot 50 percent or better from the field in a game. That is the most games of shooting 50 percent or better for an IU team in a single year since the Hoosiers shot 50-plus percent in eight games during the 1997-98 season.   REBOUNDS = Ws In nine of the last 11 games of the regular season schedule, the Hoosiers outrebounded the opposition. Indiana outrebounded an opponent in 16 games total leading into the Big Ten Tournament. IU holds a 14-2 record in games in which it outrebounds its foe.   Still more at:  http://iuhoosiers.com/news/2016/3/3/womens-basketball-iuwbb-preview-big-ten-tournament.aspx
  15.   I was there and I was frankly quite amazed at how few people showed up.  Yes, I know th women don't draw as well as the men and it's a weekday game, but still, I thought the attendance was unbelievably thin.
  16. I think he's gonna be a great addition to our front line next fall.
  17. Purely out of curiosity, and because it's reached the point where every game is potentially his last high school, anyone hearing anything on where he may be headed this fall?
  18. OK IU fans - what was CTC's epiphany, his serendipity moment, his paradigm shift?  He is a changed man from his sideline appearance and actions, to his game management, to his team practice management.  What caused it?  Who caused it?
  19.    Been quite the year for UNLV basketball program.   NCAA disqualifies Derrick Jones over test scores; attorney blasts timeline, motivation March 2, 2016 2:05pm EST March 2, 2016 1:30pm EST The ACT cancelled UNLV freshman Derrick Jones' test scores, making him ineligible to compete.   By Mike DeCourcy @TSNMike Updated at 2:05 p.m. ET UNLV freshman Derrick Jones, a forward for the Runnin’ Rebels averaging 11.5 points per game, has been declared immediately ineligible by the NCAA after his test score was cancelled by the ACT. Attorney Don Jackson told Sporting News that Jones’ score had been cancelled and his status changed to “non-qualifier.” A non-qualifier cannot practice or compete with a Division I team; ordinarily such a student cannot receive an athletic scholarship.   It’s unclear what the impact will be on UNLV’s season to date; the Rebels are 17-13 overall, 8-9 in the Mountain West Conference. When the Educational Testing Service took a similar action against Memphis guard Derrick Rose in 2008, the Tigers’ 38 victories and Final Four appearance that season were vacated and the school was placed on probation. UNLV said it is working with the “relevant governing bodies to resolve the eligibility issues.” Jones was cleared by the NCAA Eligibility Center prior to UNLV’s first game against Cal Poly in November. However, according to Jackson, the Eligibility Center had requested that the ACT investigate test scores recorded by Jones and several other minority student-athletes from a particular testing site in the Eastern U.S. Jones is a 6-7 forward from Chester, Pa. That pursuit prompted Jackson’s outrage expressed in a Sporting News article that appeared in September, in which he alleged the NCAA’s concerns were racially motivated.   In an e-mail sent Wednesday morning, Jackson wrote: “In a letter dated September 4, 2015, Todd Leyden, Vice President of the Eligibility Center, acknowledged that the NCAA requested that the ACT investigate Jones’ ACT scores despite the fact that there was no evidence of academic fraud, Jones had already been deemed a “full qualifier’ and the fact the young man made a satisfactory score on his first effort.” Jackson said the ACT Test Security division had been provided evidence of Jones’ successful academic work at UNLV — Jones is said to be an honor-roll level student — and in high school as well as of his work in two test preparation courses. "The NCAA Eligibility Center has attempted to shift responsibility for this investigation to the ACT," said Jackson in a statement. "The reality of the matter is that a number of high profile minority student-athletes were specifically targeted by the NCAA Eligibility Center. Their use of NCAA legislation in a manner that is specifically intended to adversely impact African American and international student-athletes violates federal law‎." Jones was offered three options by the ACT, none of which included verification of his successful score: volunteer to cancel his own score, retake the test or submit to arbitration, for which the testing service demanded a $200 filing fee. Jones and his representation deemed these unacceptable. “The recent actions appear to be a blatant, calculated effort to impact post-season play and to assure that UNLV plays without an important player in next week's post season tournament,” Jackson said. “This ‘investigation’ has been ongoing for almost a year; there can be no other explanation for the timing.”
  20. In its opening sectional game against LaPorte, SB Riley won 53 - 48.  Anderson scored 17, all in the 2nd half on 5 of shooting.  He also had 7 reb.
  21. Ft. Wayne South Side overcame a 17-point second-quarter deficit to beat Jay County 72-69 in overtime in the Class 4A boys basketball sectional at Huntington North..Boucher with 22 pts.; 7 of which he scored in the OT.   The following came from Phenom Hoop Report:  Ft Wayne South- #4 Austin Boucher 6’2’’ point guard that can shoot from anywhere!  Doesn't have the greatest ball handling ability but did well in his situation.  Austin is a lock down defender and a great Shooter.  He has a few DI offers but he is still unsigned
  22. Couple of interesting tidbits from various post-game write-ups:   Indiana has won seven of nine Big 10 games this season that were decided by a single-digit margin.   Zeisloft and Bielfeldt have combined to his 80-186 three-pointers   Yogi will leave having started more games than any player in program history. With more assists than any player in program history. As one of just two players in Big Ten’s 120-year history with 1,800 points, 400 rebounds and 600 assists.     [Who's #1?]
  23. I've just now come out of my post-game trance.  To win the outright on the road and against a ranked team; can it get any better?  Yogi, who has been questioned in the past for failure to finish in crunch time, did the job tonight and I couldn't be happier for him.  THANK YOU to Max and Z for deciding that IU was the place they wanted to end their college playing careers.  Thanks also to Niego for his willingness to come to IU without a scholly.  Thanks just go all the way around to the players and the coaches.   Keep the pedal to the metal in the BTT and the Big Dance.
  24.   But on the flip side, an embarrassing last minute upset loss after a team worked it's a$$ off during the regular season.  [Sorry, I responded.  I'm certainly not one of the 'younger' posters!]
