  1. Multiple tweets: IU kicker Aaron Del Grosso was arrested this morning by BPD. He was booked into the Monroe County jail at 3:33 a.m. on charges of public intoxication and criminal trespassing. Del Grosso was IU's starting kicker to begin the 2014 season. He appeared in the Ball State game two weeks ago. Police arrested a backup kicker for #IU football team this morning after he refused to leave an ex-girlfriend's during fight over dog. Second off-the-field incident for IU football this month. Freshman DT Jerome Johnson cited for illegal consumption of alcohol Sept. 3. Then this popped on from the Indiana Daily Student: IU junior kicker Aaron Del Grosso was arrested at 3:04 a.m. this morning for criminal trespassing and public intoxication. Officers were dispatched to the 400 block of the Indiana 45/46 Bypass after Del Grosso called wanting his dog back from his ex-girlfriend. They then received a second call, BPD Capt. Steve Kellams said, from a roommate of the ex-girlfriend who said an intoxicated man had forced his way into their apartment. "When we got there we came into contact with Del Grosso, he was out in the street," Kellams said. "He claimed that his ex-girlfriend had his dog and he wanted it back. There was a disagreement about the ownership of the dog. Both parties claimed ownership of the dog." Kellams said officers advised Del Grosso that it was a civil matter and that he needed to leave the property. Del Grosso refused. "We gave him several opportunities to leave, asked him several times to leave and he would not do it," Kellams said. "Finally we did get him onto the sidewalk area, off of the property, and officers did leave, but within just a few minutes he went back onto the property and began knocking on the door again." Officers received a second call from the ex-girlfriend and roommate about Del Grosso being back on their property and knocking on the door. When officers returned to the scene it was at that point Del Grosso was arrested for trespassing and public intoxication. Del Grosso was IU’s primary kicker in 2014 as a freshman before now-junior Griffin Oakes took over the starting job early in the season. Del Grosso did not appear in any games in 2015, but did appear on a kickoff in IU's win over Ball State in the 2016 home opener. This is the second incident involving an IU football player in September. Freshman defensive lineman Jerome Johnson was cited on Sept. 3 for illegal possession and consumption. Resident assistant staff found Johnson passed passed out and unresponsive in a stairwell landing between the third and fourth floor at Briscoe Quad. Jordan Guskey
  2. Impressive steals stat. Quick hands and overall reflexes a good combination for a PG.
  3. ESPN recruiting writer Jeff Borzello went through the top 25 college basketball teams and named each squad's top recruiter Tuesday. To no surprise, Borzello chose IU assistant coach Chuck Martin, who has firmly entrenched the Hoosiers with many of the top players in the Northeast. Martin, in his third year at IU, has used his connections in the area to bring in talents such as Thomas Bryant, Devonte Green and Curtis Jones. Borzello had the following to say about Martin: The Hoosiers have been dipping into other parts of the country to build their roster over the past few years, and Martin has been at the forefront of those efforts. He was the main recruiter for Thomas Bryant from New York and also closed the deal for ESPN 100 forward De'Ron Davis. Martin also helped bring in ESPN 100 guard Curtis Jones. Martin came to IU after working in the Oklahoma City Thunder's front office. He honed his player evaluating skills there, but complements his recruiting prowess with the skills of a head coach, the role he filled at Marist just before he was in Oklahoma City. In his introductory press conference, Martin was asked about recruiting and said getting the right fit is as important as getting the right talent. "Clearly for me I would like to get involved with the better players in the country, but that doesn't always work," Martin said at the time. "It's about getting the right fit. I learned that with the Thunder. We've had guys who were very critical of the Thunder last year when we took Steven Adams from the University of Pittsburgh who averaged 4 points and three rebounds. He helped us win 15 games this year and get close to 60 wins and get to the Western Conference Finals. It's not always about how highly they're rated, it's about what is their talent? Can we use their talent? Does it fit with the scheme that we're trying to execute here in Indiana?"

  7. Disappointing news to say the least but probably not all that unexpected given the turnover in the IU coaching staff since her original commitment. It's the way it is in today's college recruiting world.
  8. Falcons knock of the Raiders in Oakland 35-28. Coleman 12 carries for 46 yards and a TD; first of this season; second of his career. Also had 2 receptions for 25 yards; 24 of them on 1 of the 2 receptions.
  9. Height and weight numbers are about as accurate as a fisherman describing the one that got away. LOL
  10. Hot off the press from Alex McCarthy at 247: Clifton Moore's recruitment is moving swiftly, as the 2017 wing picked up two Big Ten offers this weekend and announced his final six schools Sunday. Following Indiana's offer Thursday and Northwestern's offer Friday, the 6-foot-10, 202-pound Moore has narrowed his recruitment to six schools: Indiana, Lafayette, Northwestern, Ole Miss, St. Joe's and Temple, per his AAU program Hoopdreamz. Moore has an official visit scheduled to Ole Miss for this coming weekend, and told Inside Indiana this weekend that he will likely visit Indiana and Northwestern on the two following weekends. He's unsure of the order of those visits or exactly when he'll visit. His AAU coach, Jonathan Michels, said Moore is in no huge rush to commit, but will likely know his best fit and commit quickly. “He wants to be done before the high school season," Michels said, "and with Clifton, he’s such a comfort-level guy. If he went to Ole Miss and was like, ‘This is it,’ he could commit. If he visited Indiana and went, ‘This is it,’ he could commit. I think for him, it’s just, ‘I have to feel like it’s the right place for me.’ It’s got to be a fit. He’s not necessarily concerned about it always being the biggest school in the world. It’s got to be a place where he’s going to fit there.” Moore's recruitment has picked up significantly this summer, as he's posted big performances at the right times. He's excelled in matchups against top-tier teams and individuals, including a 20-point, 12-rebound performance against four-star Louisville commit Malik Williams. That game put him on Indiana's radar, in particular. Moore's game caters much more to playing on the wing despite his size, and he can do a little bit of everything. “They liked how I was versatile and I could defend a guard and defend a big man, step back on the three, and if I have a smaller guy (guarding me), I can take them to the post," Moore said. "They just like my versatility and how I can move. I’m very mobile, I have a good handle and a good sense of the game.”
  11. Latest from Hutch in the Anderson Herald-Bulletin on JBJ: BLOOMINGTON — James Blackmon Jr. will be the first to admit that he has something to prove this season. This can’t be how he believed his college basketball career would unfold. In fact, chances are the 21-year-old from Marion probably thought he would be in the NBA by the time he reached his third year of college. But his knees have dictated a different timetable. A pair of knee injuries that have required surgery at the collegiate level have slowed his progress and tempered his dreams. After watching the entire Big Ten season and NCAA Tournament in street clothes from the bench a year ago and cheering on his teammates, Blackmon said he clearly has a chip on his shoulder. “I think when the season comes, a lot of people will see the chip, just because this is what I do,’’ Blackmon said. “When it’s taken away from you for a while, you get hungry.’’ The Dec. 22 non-conference home game against Kennesaw State was the final time that Blackmon was in an IU uniform a year ago. He had 19 points in that game and had built up a 15.8 points per game scoring average as the non-conference season had come to a close. That was on top of a 15.7 average he had as a true freshman the season before. But in practice Dec. 28, two days before IU opened the Big Ten season at Rutgers, Blackmon suffered an ACL tear in his right knee. This was particularly difficult for the then-sophomore to stomach because he had just rehabbed extensively from offseason surgery to repair meniscus in his left knee. And it was his left knee that he injured in high school, a torn ACL that required surgery then, too. It’s safe to say that Blackmon knows just about everything a person should ever know regarding knee injuries. He’s an expert in that field for all the wrong reasons. He admitted that watching IU’s run to the 2016 Big Ten title as a non-contributor in conference play was tough. But having been through it before gave him some perspective, too. “When I was out, I learned a lot about watching my teammates, watching film and just seeing the game,’’ Blackmon said. “More than that, I was seeing (the game) through a different way.’’ Indiana assistant coach Tim Buckley said Thursday that through the time with Blackmon nursing his most recent injury, he learned a lot about his talented shooter, too. “You know, I learned a lot watching James,’’ Buckley said. “I think that physically he did all the things you need to do to recover from that type of injury. But I don’t think you can discount his mental attitude, how he carried himself and how he was persevering and never felt sorry for himself. “I think it’s a great example for our team. He was really excited for our team to do as well as we did because he knows full well, and we do also, that if James had played we would have even been better than we were. I think that’s going to make us a better team this season having watched him go through something that was very tough and then see how he’s come out.’’ The good news is that he was recently cleared to begin practice with the Hoosiers without limitations. That doesn’t mean he’s not going to be careful though. “I’m feeling great,’’ Blackmon Jr. said. “I recently just got cleared to do everything, and the coaches and our trainers are doing a great job of letting me know when to not overdo stuff.’’ Blackmon has gotten good at listening to advice. He explored the NBA in the offseason before being advised that he should return to school. But he’s glad he took part in the process. He said he got the idea for talking to the NBA from his head coach Tom Crean. “I talked to about four teams — Minnesota, Indiana and teams like that,’’ Blackmon said. “And I just got good feedback from it. It was definitely a plus.’’ Blackmon said the feedback they gave him was simple. “They just told me to stay healthy and keep working,’’ Blackmon said. If he can take care of Job 1, and steer clear of the injury list, Blackmon has a chance to have a special season. The one thing IU fans should know is that Blackmon is clearly very eager to begin the 2016-17 campaign. “I’m ready to go,’’ Blackmon said. “I’m ready to really get working again.’’ Indiana opens exhibition play on Nov. 1 against Hope College, a Division III school from Holland, Mich.. After a second exhibition Nov. 5 against Bellarmine, IU will open the season in Hawaii on Nov. 11 against Kansas.
  12. Former East Chicago Central point guard Hyron Edwards commits to Texas Tech.
  13. NCAA has declared Texas A&M freshman guard JJ Caldwell ineligible this season, source told ESPN. He will remain enrolled. I did some further research and Caldwell's problem is homeschooling and an affiliation with SATCH, which stands for Sports Association of Texas for Christian Homeschoolers, founded in 2003. Interesting article about a growing trend to home school which is in many cases just a sham to provide more time to work on basketball skills. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2603550-inside-the-growing-trend-of-home-schooling-in-high-school-basketball
  14. From Inside The Hall: http://www.insidethehall.com/2016/09/16/indiana-ranked-preseason-no-13-sporting-news/ What follows is not the entire article. Sporting News - Hoosiers are one of four preseason top 25 teams from the Big Ten at No. 13 nationally. Wisconsin is No. 8, Purdue is No. 10 and Michigan State is No. 11. The projected order of finish in the Big Ten is as follows: Wisconsin, Purdue, Michigan State, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Maryland, Iowa, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Minnesota, Nebraska and Rutgers. · Three IU players are listed among the league’s top 10 players: Anunoby is No. 3, James Blackmon Jr. is No. 5 and Thomas Bryant is No. 7. · Freshman Curtis Jones is the league’s fifth best newcomer behind Bridges, Michigan State’s Josh Langford, Minnesota’s Amir Coffey and Iowa’s Tyler Cook. · Associate head coach Tim Buckley is ranked as the Big Ten’s third best recruiter. · Blackmon Jr. is listed as Indiana’s difference-maker: “If Blackmon Jr. is completely healthy, he should be one of the Big Ten’s top scorers, thanks to a diverse game that includes long-range accuracy and the ability to get to the basket.”
  15. Well, this is certainly a quick romance ala slam bam thank you maam! hawkhillhardwood ‏@HHHardwood 15h15 hours ago 2017 Hatboro-Horsham (PA) forward Clifton Moore was offered by Indiana tonight. He will be cutting his list to 5 this weekend. The source of the tweet covers St. Joseph's University for Scout
  16. WHY? Just doesn't make sense to me unless none of the dominoes of our major targets are going to fall our way.
  17. Stu, Stu, Stu, you've got to learn to stop bottling up your emotions. Express yourself; let it all hang out (figuratively, not literally), you need the emotional relief or we're just going to have to schedule you for an intervention with Dr. Phil. :-)
  18. Can't find much on Moore, but Anthony (Class of '19) played AAU ball on the 17U team for powerhouse PSA Cardinals which had Mo Bamba, Brandon Randolph, Deng Gak and Quade Green and made it to the championship game of the Peach Jam Classic. Anthony played in 23 games averaging 21 min. per game / 9.8 PPG on 39% / 35% on 3's / 81% FT's / 3 Reb / 3 Asst / 2 TO / 1 stl.
  19. Verrrry interesting!
  20. Per CKW, Simmie Cobbs had surgery earlier today. Outside chance he could be back towards the end of the season but also has a redshirt option.
  21. This has nothing to do with Colts football but take a listen to a hilarious play-by-play of a fan running onto the field during the Rams - 49er's game. http://thebiglead.com/2016/09/13/kevin-harlans-play-by-play-of-fan-running-on-field-is-amazing/
  22. I'm curious if anyone has any insight on why we seemingly never expressed any interest whatsoever in Nunge. Our choice? He hates us? He put up solid numbers as a junior. 6'10"; needs more weight on his frame and he's only 3-star, but he's also someone who will be a 4-year player. Certainly don't want him as your cornerstone target, but it just seemed odd to me that there never seemed to be at least passing interest on our part. Don't like McCaffrey but I think Nunge will probably do well in the Iowa system.
  23. OK boys, stop foolin' around you're making my hemorrhoids flare up. Re-group and get that dumb score back on the next series.
