  1. As if Groce didn't have enough injuries last season this from the Chicago Tribune: llinois sophomore guard Jalen Coleman-Lands will miss eight weeks after breaking his right hand on Wednesday. Coleman-Lands had surgery on Friday, according to a release sent Saturday by the school.
  2. Tweet from Anderson: "Here at IU" along with the following graphic.
  3. Wishful thinking but I'd like to get a verbal from him before he leaves Bloomington. We talk about dominoes falling and maybe getting his commit could be a catalyst for 1 or 2 of our other targets.
  4. Article from Sam Beishuizen on our 3 current commits and 2 targets who will be on campus this weekend - Keyanna Warthen from Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Bendu Yeaney from Portland, OR. Warthen #17 PG per ESPN; Yeaney is #12 also a PG. https://indiana.rivals.com/news/indiana-women-hosting-two-commits-and-two-top-targets-this-weekend
  5. 15/16 high school season: 30 games - 16.6 PPG / 8 reb / 2 asst / 1 stl / 1 blk
  6. From Zach Osterman at the Indy Star: CHANGE: IU's game against Kansas, originally slated for Pearl Harbor, will now be played at the Stan Sheriff Center on Hawaii's campus to accommodate more fans.
  7. Pretty good article from Jeff Goodman at ESPN.com on the Grad Transfer rule. Grad Transfer Rule and Its Impact
  8. So in other words you could say it takes "2 defenders to handle a whop(per)"?
  9. Compare the muscle definition (or lack thereof) in the bicep and shoulder.
  10. And collectively we hope you aren't in the area either because it means you're healthy and back in the land of sun, surf and sand.
  11. Eliminates a lot of worthless contact for him from schools he has no interest in. Actually good for the schools that were cut - they can stop spinning their wheels and move on with their recruiting efforts.
  12. In most respects, he had a better junior year than did his teammate Grant Gelon but there's clearly something about his game that doesn't attract any major D1 interest.
  13. Follow-up to the 2 previous posts from 247: Redskins rookie Nate Sudfeld shines in debut The 6-foot-6 signal caller led the Redskins to their only two touchdown drives of Thursday night’s preseason opener against the Falcons. “It was a lot of fun to play, it’s been awhile since I’ve actually gotten to play and be live and stuff, so getting those first few hits felt really good, kind of [to] get back in the rhythm of things,” Sudfeld said. “Guys were playing really well, it’s fun to play with the guys. I thought the offense when I was in, the offense in general was pretty sharp, we just have to clean up some penalties but it was a lot of fun to play.” Sudfeld completed 10-of-15 passes for 89 yards and a touchdown, which was to tight end Marcel Jensen. “Yeah it felt really good, but it was really our O-line was blocking on some individual runs, running backs were running really well, there was really good protection when I was throwing the ball and guys were making some good catches,” Sudfeld said. “I’m a quarterback, I’m a part of the puzzle, so I thought I did alright but the guys around me had a really good performance as well.” Kirk Cousins and Colt McCoy are mentoring the rookie. Cousins had impactful advice for Sudfeld ahead of Thursday’s performance. “They were in my ear all week and then all day and then during the game,” Sudfeld said. “So it was really good to have those guys. Before the game Kirk said, ‘Let go and let God in,’ and I really took that to heart and it’s fun. I feel like I’ve trained hard for this and I felt prepared out there so I just went and had a good time and tried to play with a smile on my face and march us downfield so it was fun.”
  14. Wichita State suspends coach Gregg Marshall for exhibition game "I visited with Coach Marshall this morning to inform him that he is suspended for this afternoon's final exhibition game in Canada," interim athletic director Darron Boatright said in a statement. "While I understand the competitive spirit that accompanies coaching, there remains a standard of professional behavior that is inherent in a position of leadership that we all must meet. That standard was not met last night." Marshall was hit with a pair of technicals Tuesday night and was ejected from the contest against McGill University. He was then restrained by several players and assistant coaches while trying to get to one of the officials. Wichita State trailed 58-56 at the time of his ejection. The Shockers won the game 77-71. Earlier Wednesday, Marshall told ESPN that he was frustrated with the manner the game was called by the officials. "There were players with stitches, concussions, not keeping score accurately, a bloodbath, then touch fouls on us," Marshall told ESPN's Andy Katz. "I'm not happy nor proud of the reaction but when is enough, enough? I want my players to know I've got their back. Once ejected, I wanted the ref to know exactly my impression of his work." In a statement released by the school, Marshall said he accepted the university's decision to suspend him. "I fully accept the decision of the athletic department and the University," Marshall said in a statement. "As a program we expect to represent Wichita State University in a manner in which we can all be proud of, on and off the court. Last night, in my attempt to stand up for, and protect, my team I fell short of those expectations. I will gladly sit out tonight's game in hopes that a lesson can be learned that it's not just about doing the right thing, but doing it the right way."
  15. We've apparently started watching '18 David Singleton a 6' 4" SG from Bishop Montgomery HS in Torrance, CA. http://247sports.com/Player/David-Singleton-88157 http://www.espn.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/203663/david-singleton This snippet is from ScoutHoops back in Sept. '15: 2018 Bishop Montgomery SG David Singleton getting early recruiting interest David Singleton had a successful weekend at the Fullcourt Press All Frosh/Soph Camp, which should be sure to help propel his recruitment. One of SoCal’s most productive guards in 2018 comes from Torrance (Calif.) Bishop Montgomery in David Singleton. The 6-foot-4, 180-pound shooting guard is a versatile player who will likely be able to play multiple perimeter positions in college given his shooting, motor, passing and rebounding ability. Singleton prides himself in doing what it takes to help his team win. “It depends what we need,” Singleton said. “If we have a small lineup I’ll play big and in a bigger lineup I’ll handle the ball. I’ll shoot, play inside or rebound; whatever it takes. I’m trying to get better at everything. No one is perfect.” So far, Singleton has had UCLA, California, Stanford, USC, Oregon State and Pepperdine by his school to watch him workout. When his recruitment picks up, one attribute in a program will be especially important. “Education is most important for me,” he said.
  16. From outward appearances I thought we jumped on the Brown bandwagon awfully late in the game to have a reasonable chance.
  17. A nice piece from the NY Times on Derek Drouin's unusual high jump technique. Scroll or use the arrow keys in the lower right hand corner to advance the presentation. nyti.ms/2b8w3Jk

  22. From Hutch at the Anderson Herald-Bulletin Wednesday, August 3, 2016 Today’s Hoosiers Insider Blog will look at the top kids playing high school basketball in the state of Indiana in the class of 2018. And with Indiana picking up its third football commitment in the last four days, we'll take a look at that, too. On Monday, I had a blog that looked at the top high school basketball players in the state of Indiana for the 2017 class. I talked about how there’s a lot of information out there from a lot of good people that focus on recruiting first. Indiana is filled with good recruiting reporting at sites like Scout, Rivals, 247 Sports and Inside the Hall to name a few. Myself, I do my best to keep up. When you’re a beat writer covering college football and basketball, you end up wearing several hats. Staying current with the recruiting scene is one of them. In compiling this list of the top 10 high school basketball players who will be playing basketball in the state in the 2018 class, I looked at several sources. One of the ones I found the most user friendly and balanced was the composite top 150 for 247 Sports. So I’ll refer to that list to give a top 10 Indiana basketball kids in the class of 2017. Here’s how that top 10 looks according to 247 Sports: Romeo Langford (New Albany) SF, 6-5, 191 Kevin Easley (Lawrence North) SF, 6-6, 210 Musa Jallow (Bloomington North) SF, 6-5, 195 Damezi Anderson (South Bend Riley) SF, 6-6, 175 Kevin Zhang (La Lumiere) SF, 6-6, 175 Robert Phinisee (McCutcheon) PG, 5-11, 160 Eric Hunter (Tindley Prep) SG, 6-3, 165 Aaron Henry (Ben Davis) SF, 6-5, 185 Austin Boucher (Fort Wayne South) CG, 6-3, 165 Gavin Bizeau (Plainfield) C, 6-11, 181 Of the group, Langford is the one who stands out. He’s the No. 2 ranked player overall in that class by 247 Sports, Rivals and Scout. He has offers from all of the usual suspects including Duke, Kentucky, Indiana, Louisville and Kansas. Purdue is there as well. Just how much of a gap is there between Langford and the rest of the field when it comes to 2018 state of Indiana kids? After Langford at No. 2, Kevin Easley is in the No. 105 spot in the 247 Sports rankings. Musa Jallow is No. 112, Damezi Anderson is No. 117 and Kevin Zhang is No. 149. No one in the class is committed at this point and it’s still a little early for that. Perhaps by the spring in a few of the cases, there could be some movement on that front. Both Indiana and Purdue are on all of the top 10 and have offers out to several of them. This coming season, their junior year of high school, will dictate a lot of their movement in terms of where they could be leaning with college choices.
