IU QB Dawkins Leaves IU program
ThompsonHoosier replied to CrossboneIU22's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
I remember reading about how he felt he wasn't able to display his running skills because of the QB contact rules during camp. Maybe that was part of the reason he felt he wasn't given a fair shot? either way, a QB needs to be able to throw and at the end of the day it sounds like Ramsey was better equipped to do that. -

IU QB Dawkins Leaves IU program

I guess he must have thought the starting job was going to be handed to him! Best luck to him wherever he ends up. Just sucks that we are now an injury away from probably starting a true freshman. -

I don't understand why everyone is so down on Ramsey. Yeah he was average at best last season but he was also a redshirt freshman who was learning a brand new system under Debord. Also I'm sure the offense last year was not tailored to his strengths since Lagow was not mobile whatsoever. After another year in this system and better strength and conditioning I think we'll see an improved Ramsey. And if he struggles or gets injured, we'll have capable options behind him. Didn't they just hire Canada this off-season? Well maybe Urban can hire Durkin again...I hear they are needing a new WR coach. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk

Yeah I don't understand how he still has a job...at least it didn't get to that extreme under Wilson. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk

A few disgruntled players or a bad culture? I guess we will never know, but it sounds like Maryland is having their own Kelvin Wilson situation under Durkin. https://sports.yahoo.com/report-toxic-culture-surrounds-maryland-football-program-coach-d-j-durkin-even-death-jordan-mcnair-231920118.html Report: A 'toxic culture' surrounds the Maryland football program under coach D.J. This game made me so mad last year...so many awful calls going against us and poor play calling at the end.

2018 IU FOOTBALL PREDICTION THREAD
ThompsonHoosier replied to Dalton26's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
I see 8-4 if the offense takes a step forward and the defense doesn't have much of a drop off from last season: @ FIU - W vs Virginia - W vs Ball State - W vs Michigan State - L @ Rutgers - W @ Ohio State - L vs Iowa - W vs Penn State - L @ Minnesota - W vs Maryland - W @ Michigan - L vs Purdue - W 4-8 if we dont't improve offensively and the defense takes a step back (or we're plagued by injuries) @ FIU - W vs Virginia - W vs Ball State - W vs Michigan State - L @ Rutgers - W @ Ohio State - L vs Iowa - L vs Penn State - L @ Minnesota - L vs Maryland - L @ Michigan - L vs Purdue - L -

Urban could have simply admitted that he knew about the "allegations" (which is what they were at the time) but couldn't speak about it. Instead he chose to flat out lie about the whole thing and made it look worse. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk

So it turns out (according to a report by Brett McMurphy) that Urban Meyer knew about the alleged domestic abuse by his WR Coach Zach Smith as far back as 2015, yet he completely denied knowing anything at all at last week's Big Ten media day. It does not look good for Urban...he sure does win a lot of games though!

I think Purdue overachieved last year and I won't be surprised if they have a regression to 4-5 wins this year (and its likey given the tough schedule). It will be interesting to see if all these high rated recruits stay committed or jump ship for a higher profile program. I do think Brohm has a good thing going at Purdue and it will take quite a bit to get him to leave. I mean, outside of Wisconsin, what other programs can compete for the conference in the Big Ten West? Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk

As the start of fall camp approaches, this is what some of the other coaches in the league have to say (anonymously) about Coach Allen. Via: AthlonSports Link to full article: https://athlonsports.com/college-football/big-ten-coaches-talk-anonymously-about-conference-foes-2018 Indiana "Tom Allen is a good man. A no-nonsense coach stuck in a football program whose administration doesn’t care enough to want to get better. They’ve made some changes in the facilities, but that’s almost because they have to. You can’t sit around while everyone else does it, and sit on that (Big Ten) network money." "Tom is not a guy who is going to sit around and wait for something to happen. He doesn’t suffer fools. He made that move to bench (Richard) Lagow last year for the freshman (Peyton) Ramsey, and it looked like a heckuva move until Ramsey got hurt. You’re talking about benching a guy who set a lot of records there, and giving the whole show to a freshman. But that’s Tom. He does what he thinks is best for his team." "They’re going to be really good on offense this year. Going to score a lot of points on the teams in this league. Ramsey is a good player. If you’re completing close to 70 percent of your passes in the first year in this league, you’re doing something right. I never saw him get rattled." "Tom has been a defensive coach all of his career, so I know it must pain him to see what happens on the field week after week. Because as good as the young guys were on offense, the offense as a whole couldn’t stop turning the ball over. You want to lose games? You want to get a coach fired? Keep being lax with ball security." "There are a lot of young guys on that team that are going to put up some really good numbers over the next couple of years. It’s not just Ramsey. TB (Morgan) Ellison is a big kid who runs with an attitude, and that quick WR (Whop) Philyor is a player. A solid nucleus of young guys will be fun to watch, and brutal to deal with if you’re a defensive coach in the league."

I think he is referring to football...Brohm and co. are killing it so far. They have landed four 4-star recruits in the 2019 class and currently have the 21st best class (4th in the Big Ten) in the nation. Edit: Hopefully some bigger programs come looking for Brohm after this season.
