That game does a lot more for Davidson than it does for Purdue.

B1G Standings Predictions for 2022/2023
hoosierbgh replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
There's no way Purdue cheerleaders could qualify for Modern Dog mag, maybe the rear end special of Potbelly Pig Monthly, but not Modern Dog. -
No, I don't think you attacked me. Not at all. I just think you rushed to dismiss a counterpoint with out stating or in this case re-stating your own position. I did miss the prior post where you clearly stated your reasoning, so mea culpa. No, it'll be Scheyer that's knocks them out of the elite category, if it happens. I wouldn't mind seeing IU helping him along by giving an L to this year's much hyped team.
-
I kind of disagree with that. A more marketable game has the potential to appeal more to future recruits than a less marketable one, at least in the short term. A win over Virginia, though they're likely to be a very good team, will be unlikely to have the same cachet with recruits as a win over a possible title contender in UNC or an overhyped Duke. If there is any chance Booker comes to IU and he hasn't decided by that point, being in the crowd for a raucous win over Duke likely helps IU's case far more than a win over Virginia would as an example.
-
I don't disagree that he'll make it and probably has already done enough to earn it, given some of the other HoF members, but I don't see a reason to proclaim it before it actually happens. The second part was mostly tongue in cheek. I see a lot more benefit to playing those two as well.
-
It'd saved us both a lot of posts if you bothered stating your own position earlier instead of simply assailing mine. I sympathize with the UNC/Duke fatigue and share it to a large extent. The difference is I'd rather see IU play them and put a nail in the coffin of their relevance, not just avoid them while other team's do so. Duke, especially is just waiting to be knocked down several rungs, IMO.

MMM, sockeye!!

So now we've already inducted Bennett into the HoF? What's next erecting a statue in his honor? He certainly has every opportunity to get there, especially with the two predominant ACC programs sporting new, unproven coaches, but can we at least wait until he actually earns it before anointing him the second coming of John Wooden? I have to admit though, I am coming around to the idea of playing Virginia in the Challenge. Maybe a reasonably solid IU win will reduce this odd fetish some have for Virginia.
-
I'm talking specifically to btownqb, who had yet to give an actual reason. I already acknowledged the UNC/Duke fatigue reason, which is the only compelling reason I've seen yet.
-
I can see why some wouldn't want to play Louisville this year but I'd have no problem kicking them while their down. Syracuse might be if IU hadn't just played them. The same for FSU. Miami would be better choice. I'm still waiting on a compelling reason to want to play UVA so badly.
-
Maybe, maybe not but it is at least debatable. Which of the two looks better to recruits is much less so, IMO. Who said every year? You're leaping all over the place, the conversation is about the coming year. Although, I'd prefer to not play UVA unless they were a clear cut national title contender or there was some other compelling reason. As it stands, I don't see any real, desirable reason to want to play Virginia this year or most others for that matter. What is so appealing about playing Virginia? I can understand not wanting to play Duke or UNC but there are other better options than UVA.
-
I thought we were discussing who we'd prefer to see IU play in the Challenge. Being a likely better resume builder is a tertiary reason I'd rather see IU play Duke than Virginia. I would assume those wanting to see Virginia are factoring more into it than entertainment value as well.
-
No, there isn't, which makes a win potentially worth a whole lot more than just a check on the positive side of the ledger or bump in the tournament resume.
-
IMO, beating a talented but young Duke team with an unproven coach may be easier than a more experienced UVA early in the season. Such a win would certainly look a lot better to recruits. I don't think it will be Duke though.
-
They are not nearly as talented as Duke or UNC and stylistically far closer to a BIG team.
-
No, not too good but who actually wants to watch that s***? I think we can hope for a little better than what will amount to an extra game against a BIG team. It would be nice to play an entertaining game against a talented and stylistically different team.

I'm not to0 concerned with the platoon subbing patterns, he was already going away from that approach at the end of last season, especially in the second half and at the end of games.

2022-2023 IUBB Roster Projection
hoosierbgh replied to Five Prime's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Technically, he could get a lot more playing time this year AND still not get a whole lot of playing time. -
The 2-3 Boiler fans with a clue probably just soiled themselves with this news.
-
Nigel Pack probably thought he was worth even more than 400K but found out that was as high as anyone was willing to go.

I suspect the number of athletes that undervalue their services compared to those that overvalue them, is fractionally small.

This is a key point and one of the major reasons Galloway's minutes are unlikely to go down. He is capable and willing to fulfill any reasonable role the coaching staff chooses for him. Whatever he is asked to do, he'll find away to do it to the best of his ability for the benefit of the team.
-
Yes, some are. I'm not just talking in this thread or even on this site. I've seen apparently serious comments about running Galloway off for players in the transfer portal. I've seen people dredge up stats in to attempt to demonstrate Galloway is not all that valuable. Not everyone needs to shoot 3's well. Nor are we trying to build an all star team here. Everyone gets too caught up in 3 point shooting and recruit rankings. There's more to the game than great shooting and Galloway did almost all of those things at a high level. He's also the type of guy that makes guys better, both during games and in practice. It bears pointing out again, that it was Galloway, when healthy, that finished games over the two primary shooters on the team last year. Hopefully other players develop to the point that we have more and better options this year. Hopefully some of the freshmen are able to contribute as well. If either of those things happen, it'll likely be in part because Galloway is pushing them in practice. One thing is for sure, if someone does end up taking minutes from Trey, they'll have to earn it because he's not going to roll over and let it happen.
-
I don't think it is all intentional but it is there just the same. A lot of it certainly comes from the being overly fixated on shooting to the exclusion of everything else. It has been suggested, apparently seriously, that Gunn would be taking minutes from Galloway after all. Gunn certainly has the tools and potential to be a strong contributor down the road but Galloway will most likely be eating his lunch and charging him for the privilege for the foreseeable future.

One would think California would have a plethora of more pressing problems to deal with. If not California, it'd be another state and soon though.
