I don't think it was a coincidence that the mic'ed up game was one of the best officiated BIG games I've watched. Doing this for the lead official for every game would make the games more entertaining and encourage the refs to be on their best behavior, IMO. IF, the BIG actually wanted to improve officiating this would be a huge step in that direction and be fairly easy to implement.

Yeah, the refs missed that push off like they miss Edey constantly slamming an elbow into his defender's chest, which is to say they consciously decided not to make those calls. There's no way anyone with fully functioning eyes missed that push off if they were watching Buie with the ball. It was obvious at any speed. The BIG is going do BIG things. Its obvious every year that the BIG has the agenda of getting as many teams at possible in the tournament and the refs are following that agenda, especially this late in the season. While it sucks, the important thing is that IU escaped without injury and will be playing in tournament soon.

I'd be willing to bet a substantial sum that you would find far more objectionable songs on most, if not all of the ladies' playlists. -
IMO, Purdue has no right to complain in any game where Edey is still playing at the end. He's good for 5+ offensive/rebounding fouls a game, few of which are called.

Stanford up 10 with less than 4 to play.

I think that somehow is named Rick Barnes. He always seems to build a talented team... that falls apart in the tournament.
-
I think TJD is a big part of that. Now that he's healthy, he's put the team on his back and the rest of the team seems to have a lot of confidence that he will keep them in every game. The renewed focus on defense is another big part, the team seems to be developing as much faith in their defense as they have in TJD.

You really think inconsistency is going to deter the NBA from drafting a kid that has demonstrated his talent and skill on numerous occasions? The same NBA that drafts kids that barely demonstrate talent and skill in the first place based solely on potential? JHS may come back and I selfishly hope he does but no amount of inconsistency that he's demonstrated to this point is going to keep him from getting drafted. Those that think otherwise are just fooling themselves.

I've read less than 2 full pages and checked the title of this thread 4 times already to make sure I was actually in the IU vs. Rutgers thread instead of some thread discussing alternate realities. JHS won't get drafted this year? The team is better without X? Did some IU fans get into the same stuff that convinces BIG refs that Edey needs to be protected or that Wisconsin never commits a foul? I'm struggling to come up with another viable explanation for such interesting and nonsensical takes.

If Purdue draws a team with two good and athletic bigs where they can't hide Edey on defense, they're done. If they get an officiating crew that has the courage to call Edey for more than a small fraction of the fouls he commits, they're also done. Especially if they were to call the foul every time he rams his shoulder or elbow into the defender, when he grabs the defender's arm and holds them down, or the shove in the back that leads to a number of his rebounds.
-
If Duke is not getting calls like that, then they're in trouble no matter who the coach is. It may be better for Amaker that he is not there when the karma they've earned comes back to them.

The adjustments are nice and effective but It is never just one thing that leads to a good team playing as badly as IU was to start the year. Having TJD fully healthy for more or less the first time all year sure helps make things easier. The Team renewing their focus on defense helps even more.

IMO, the biggest problem with IU's press break is that they merely look to get past the press and into their normal offense instead of looking to punish the opponent for playing a press by taking advantage of the easy scores the press will inevitably give up when actually attacked. In other words, they have played way t0o passive against the press, when they need to attack aggressively. -
I'm thinking you could probably get away with it an extra time or two if it is a different player each time. It wasn't at the end of the game nor was it very recent but I seem to recall a game with multiple lane violations in a row on the same team.

1. I think that could work. 2. I think this would invite the refs into the game in some fashion regardless of the exact rules. I wouldn't trust them not to call a tech for taunting or some nonsense.

It's almost like teams are not made up of cyborgs that perform to the exact same level every game throughout the season. Who knew?

I finally found the game , it was in '93 and I was mistaken, they called PSU for a push off with an IU player grabbing and holding the PSU player's jersey. Now that my memory has been jogged, I remember talk that it was going to be a tech for the untucked shirt then the broadcast went to commercial and when they came back from the break it was a common foul. The game went to 2 overtimes. Yes, it was the time the NCAA was emphasizing tucked in jerseys.
