How could Glass not part ways with Crean at this point? Even if the great coaches aren't available or not interested, how could you keep him? If he stays next year it will just be ugly and sad.

My gut tells me Collins, Archie, Holtman would do ok here but not brilliantly. We all want a great coach who teaches the game the right way and motivates but ultimately if you can't be a stellar recruiter, you will always be looking up at the top. Marshall and BD are the only ones I personally believe are sure bets. Bennett would make IU into the next Wisconsin, which isn't bad but it isn't great either imo. Sean would be great but no reason for him to leave AZ. Who else is there? Of course there is an unheralded coach out there who could turn into a legend here but I think Glass wants to get as sure a hire as possible because if the program continues to slide he will be on his way out within 3-4 years. You can't let the Indiana Hoosiers basketball program stink for a decade and expect to keep your job.

the comments weren't that off putting to me, personally. I don't care if he has hate in his heart for the former administration, I mean it's a little disconcerting I guess but my personal mythology about him doesn't include a whole lot of benevolence. He said he loved the fans but clearly that isn't enough for him to, as he sees it, extend an olive branch to IU even if it's all but symbolic at this point given that Clarence and Kit and others aren't there anymore.

It's not 1963 and it's not the NFL. Defense doesn't win championships. Talent and balance seem to be a winning formula though.

Just because we've had the worst D in the country doesn't mean we should go get the most defensive minded coach in basketball. I'd like IU to score in the 70s and 80s and win stuff. Didn't know we were aiming to be the next Wisconsin.

I think I want Bennett the very least of anybody we've mentioned. Anyone but him. He seems like an antiseptic hire. Bleh.

I agree that neither would be a slam dunk imo. Both are gambles I think. Guess I'm just used to being pessimistic about this program. I would be genuinely shocked if IU got who they wanted.

Gonna be Archie or Collins. Easy hires from an AD standpoint. Either one would be stupid not to take the IU job. Both would. One will.

I've seen it for awhile and couldn't figure it out for the life of me.

St Charles Alum here! We had a great basketball team in 96..won at Edgewood on a buzzer beater, beat tri north and bachelor and played in the CYO state championship game, came up short though.
