  1. He must have had one awful series of practices. Only thing that would make sense to me, other than he's hurt.
  2. Isn't the pack line supposed to limit the layup attempts? Poor effort defensively so far
  3. Bobby Knight didn't cheat, but I'm not sure the "optics" of his program were always peachy. Just sayin'.
  4. Done deal for the Astros on retaining Brantley per Bob Nightengale of the USA Today
  5. You're aiming at the wrong one here my man. I haven't watched the NBA since Jordan was with the Bulls, and haven't had any interest in watching since then. IU basketball certainly hasn't been that enjoyable to watch for me these past few seasons either. I enjoy seeing the defense locking down an opponent when they want to, but offensively it's been similar to watching paint dry
  6. And now they've just signed another former Astro in Michael Brantley. Jays going all out this offseason. Edit: Looks as if Blue Jay officials are pumping the breaks on the Brantley signing. Brantley was someone I wanted the White Sox to target in RF before they swooped Eaton.
  7. They've been in on every free agent per MLB reporters. Very nice signing for them. Will be a fun team to watch with that young core. The Yates signing I also think will be very good who flew under the radar with Hendricks and Hand out on the RP market.
  8. A little but isn’t that what being a fan is all about? Things could be worse - your team could be owned by Jerry Reinsdorf. Tony LaRussa....smh
  9. Ok, botching may not be the correct term. My point still stands that two hires were made in consecutive off-seasons that failed to make it to Spring Training, whether they knew or not, which they didn't obviously. 37 days ago the front-office was praising Porter's character during his introductory press conference, and now here we are. In terms of the news cycle this will be forgotten by tomorrow, so I apologize if I upset you, I just found this combined with the Beltran saga to be quite ironic. Clearly this new Mets ownership has infused some life (money) into that organization which has renewed excitement that I expect this to be a bump on the road when the games start. They should be must see TV with the talent they've accumulated, especially if that pitching staff is at full strength. My phrasing was clumsy so for that I apologize.
  10. How am I ignorant? Beltran and Porter both didn't make it to Spring Training. Maybe you're misunderstanding me, but I applaud the quick action in firing him. Cohen did just take over this team, correct? He wasn't around for the Beltran hiring, or is my timeline mixed up there? As far as the gotcha points - I'm not sure what you're driving at - all I was pointing out was that, yes, he was with the DBacks and Cubs and reports are that a Cubs employee sat down with Porter and the female reporter so someone in the Cubs organization knew, but if he made anyone aware in upper management is unknown, at least at this time, from the article I read this morning. Generally confused, if anything I think the Mets are the ones that look good from this in how quick they acted, but just the hirings in the GM and manager spots the past two seasons haven't worked out, to say the least.
  11. I would say that resumes will be less across the board this year without a full non-conference slate, which our Hoosiers could have desperately needed to pad that W-L column some. This is hopefully an outlier year but resumes are indeed lesser this year especially in this one and done era as you stated. As far the first line - fair enough. Certainly wasn't my intention to put a target on my back as I enjoy discussing IU sports and sports in general so don't want to lose the privilege which a mod would have control over which is why I said I wasn't trying to get in the middle of it, which I guess I'm knee deep in now replying to this.
  12. Not the topic of discussion, but I tend to agree with LCS in this aspect. The quality of college basketball has continuously gotten worse throughout the years, in my opinion. Players jumping to the NBA at any chance they get and players transferring for more playing time has weakened the product over the years. Don't have the answers to fix it, but just my novice observation. Not trying to get in the middle of an LCS vs Mod spat, so carry on...
  13. He's persistent, probably an attribute you want in your GM when trying to acquire free agents, but not so much when pursuing females. And based on his interview the junk was "kinda like joke-stock photo" if you believe that. The back to back years of botching a major hire amazed me as well. What I don't get is how the Cubs say they weren't aware. The reporter said she contacted a Cubs employee who sat down with Porter and her. How does that not get made aware of anyone higher up in the organization? Something not really adding up to me there, but doubt anything comes of that
  14. It’s a good thing the on-field product should be must see TV as that organization has absolutely botched two consecutive offseason managerial hirings - Beltran and now Porter. Two different owners no less. To quote David Hasselhoff “It’s a mess”
  15. This is disgusting to look at. We seem to be focused on recruiting size which makes some sense with the pending departure of TJD, but we need to upgrade at the guard position desperately, especially at PG. It’s a guards game and we have too many games where a guard or multiple guards completely disappear in the game. I had high hopes for Phinisee and really hoped he’d be more aggressive with the basketball and looking to score/drive more. He did it once during the Wisconsin OT but seems like that’s the outlier and not the norm. Does Archie provide him the freedom to do so or is it not in his skill set, I don’t know but it’s incredibly tiresome to watch him dribble the ball and not really accomplish anything from it.
  16. His speed doesn’t worry me, it’s his shot and defense. When is the last time he hit rim? Semi-serious question.
  17. Slight disagreement with bullet point #4. Do you think Lander can make an significant leap for next year? He seems so far off that his leap might just make him a role player. I honestly am not seeing much there where I feel confident he’s in a position to even help next season.
  18. Hey, a guy can dream can't he? I just watch the Hoosiers struggle and then flip the channel and watch Gonzaga hang 90+ on BYU and just imagine what if. I just want to see quality basketball on the offensive end. Watching IU at times these past few years has been like going to the dentist.
  19. Reinsdorf and his goons have run the Bulls into the ground. Billy D ain't going to save that mess. Offer him enough money and I'm sure he'd bolt. Something needs to change though as this is not much fun to watch anymore.
  20. I gave you 5 at least, and I don't really consider myself in that "Fire Archie" crowd at all costs, but I'm gradually getting there. This won't be sustainable especially if TJD does indeed leave.
  21. Urban Meyer type offer for Mark Few, Brad Stevens or Billy D. If that doesn't work then Chris Beard, Nate Oats. I love the defense Archie's teams play with when they want to, but you still got to put the ball in the hoop and I'm not confident he'll ever do that at a sufficient clip for IU ever to get over the "hump".
  22. Gonzaga starts at 9pm on ESPN if you'd like to see high quality offense played at the college level. They make it look so easy
  23. To borrow from James Harden, "We're just not good enough". Thought this for a while, but I think it's apparent, we just don't have enough. Who are the athletes on the team? Who's really skilled on this team? It's been discussed ad-nauseam here that we also lack fundamentals. We'll win some games here and there, sure, especially when the defense is locked in, but when you can't consistently score either due to lack or shooting or lack of a coherent plan, it's going to be difficult most nights.
  24. Spriggs, Brewer, Feeney and even Saffold if you'd like to go back that far had a large part in those RBs success. Pretty clear that Wilson was able to land some better OL than Allen has thus far, but he's essentially had one full recruiting cycle - give him some time.
  25. Phinisee - stop dribbling the air out of the ball. Could have hit Franklin in the corner an hour ago on that possession. Come on!
