  1. I think Archie SAYS he likes to run. Maybe he even thinks he does. And easy run outs off of TO’s or long boards, sure, who doesn’t? But I think in reality he’s a low possession, inside/out guy who places a higher priority on limiting TO’s and forcing the other team to defend. Yeah, we’ve all seen him wave his arms a couple times a game like he wants them to go. But in reality this team doesn’t run hard, ever. Didn’t last year either, and that was with veteran guards who’d played tempo previously. So I think it’s what he’s teaching. I don’t mean it critically. Bennett’s playing for a NC playing the lowest possession rate in the country. I just think it’s a bad fit for a kid like Smith.
  2. Smith’s best fit is as a small ball 4 in an up tempo game. He would have been a fit for Crean. But if he genuinely believes he belongs on the wing, that’s a problem. Since Archie would rather not play small or up tempo, and if Hunter is able to go, I really don’t see a fit for Smith.
  3. TT is the most fun defensive team to watch that I can remember. But would have rather watched Auburn attack what they do than UVA. Still really looking forward to Monday.
  4. How can that kid possibly be ok?
  5. Now THAT was a dagger.
  6. That changes everything
  7. Owens is incredible. Even if their help guy is late or their drop guy is late, Owens gets to everything going to the rim. Great, great defender.
  8. Exactly correct. Also, from what I have read a few places, it sounds like he has a spectacular quality of life away from basketball. A dominant program located in a location that you love. We should all be Mark Few.
  9. I think Crean’s system works for this kid very well. Looks built for a high tempo game. He’s a pretty clever finisher around the rim, but he’s not very physical, so playing in a system that opens up the lane would fit. His shot’s a little quirky. Crean might be able to clean it up. It’s easier for me to see him in Crean’s system than Archie’s.
  10. So we’ve now reached the point where we are raining down judgement on the performance of an ASSISTANT Coach. Wow. Ok then. Just out of curiosity, which specific opponent scouting report/game plan that Flint was in charge of proved to be poorly done? Which prospect evaluation that Flint did on a kid proved to be a miss? Which kid was Flint the lead on that we didn’t get and what was Flint’s specific failure. Which part of the development program that Flint is captaining is failing? What specific parts of the role that Miller has assigned to him is Flint underperforming? Which poor in game strategic suggestions did Flint offer? I don’t know. I’m not in the room. But someone on here must be to confidently assert that Flint needs to go. Maybe there is an issue with Ostrom? How about Schilling? Maybe Tim Garl suddenly can’t get it done. I mean, look at all of those injuries that he couldn’t fix! Hey, I’m not defending Flint. No idea if he’s any good at his job. But 2 things, 1) You cannot judge the job performance of an Asst Coach by watching 30 games a year on TV. Sorry, ya can’t. 2) Miller is placing his career in the hands of those guys. If 1 or more of them is underperforming his expectations, not ours, his, than it is incumbent on him to deal with it. If he doesn’t, that’s on him. It’s all on him.
  11. Agree. And Stackhouse got a lot of positive press for the job he did as HC in the G League. As outside the box hires go, like this one a lot.
  12. A bunch of Iowa fans on twitter suggesting Iowa will be better without Cook. Uh huh. Recency bias of the highest order.
  13. I’m sure the thumb contributed to some of the inconsistency in his release. But it didn’t impact the inconsistent footwork, body position and landing point. That stuff just needs a good bit of refinement. I think the thumb may have bothered him more in traffic situations around the rim. Sometimes he could take the ball up through contact easily and other times it seemed to be an issue.
  14. When Dan’s doing a game and he’s really locked in to the x’s and o’s I think he’s exceptional. But when he’s Dan being Dan.....insufferable.
  15. I’m watching IMG play Sunrise Christian in the Geico Showcase right now. Quinones isn’t here and the announcers haven’t noted his absence. Don’t remember hearing about an injury. Is he out of IMG and I just missed it? Anybody got anything?
  16. I am really sorry to hear this one. Was probably his biggest fan on this board. I think that kid had a chance to be a really useful player eventually. Sitting a year and developing physically will do him good. Best of luck.
  17. Obviously I’m just talking, but I’d guess a couple of things. There’s been a decent amount written speculating that Pitino’s relationship with the Minn AD is pretty strained. Given the coaching arms race that seems to be going on in the SEC, Arkansas would almost certainly pay a good bit more. Pitino’s now been there 6 yrs, so I think where he has the program now is probably about their ceiling with him, and he might view Arkansas as having a higher one, which I think is true. If I were him, that move would interest me.
  18. McCaffery would be leaving probably the 2nd best starting 5 in the Conference next year. I would think that alone would make him very expensive for Arkansas. Pitino, on the other hand, would probably come very reasonably and I’m sure would be very interested.
  19. That, sir, is everybody’s dream scenario.
  20. Yeah, I love his talent, but 1 of the 15 greatest players in history is a bit rich. Hyperbole is really not my thing.
  21. Typical pundit hot take, but he’s always been highly respectful of Painter. Rightly so, Painter’s a terrific coach. Ridiculous to suggest otherwise. Perfectly reasonable to assume PU will be better next year, though I wouldn’t bet my house on it. Wheeler’s gonna be their key. Man, does that kid have a high ceiling.
  22. From Tacoma, Wa, maybe 45 mins from UW campus. So not getting too deep into watching this kid.
  23. https://www.latimes.com/sports/ucla/la-sp-ucla-basketball-cronin-dixon-calipari-20190401-story.html Also mentions Randy Bennett, Shaka Smart and Earl Watson. Personally, I think Randy Bennett is one of the elite pure coaches in the country. Don’t think he’s really wired to deal with that mess. Yes, Dixon could be a really nice hire for us.
  24. Thanks for the heads up. Kind of a relief. I have no patience for undersized, ball dominant, conscience free, shot hunting pg’s. Pretty sure God put Markus Howard on this planet just to piss me off.
  25. Wow. Seems awfully premature. Other than overpowering smaller guards with his bulk strength and being really young, not sure what there is to be super excited about here. Hope he can maintain eligibility.
