They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread
OKHOOSIER replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Checking in on my homies in here. Imagine giving MW a multi million dollar roster and thinking he’d be a good college basketball coach. This is beyond embarrassing. FIRE MIKE WOODSON ON THE BEACH -
I feel for the kids honestly. There’s a good team in that locker room and they aren’t going to realize their potential. The sum of these parts should be so much fun to watch. Yea they’re getting paid and they should be, but they’re being utterly failed by the coaching staff. There is no other excuse.

This has been discussed a lot in the IU and CBB media, as well as here. MW still somehow does not understand the NET and how short the season is. We simply cannot afford to beat teams like this well below the line. He has no comprehension of how teams on the bubble get into the tournament. Take UCONN for example. Hurley was straight up disgusted with his team post game- after a 35 point win. It’s simply another data point that MW thinks it’s the NBA and is not qualified for this job. Full stop. -

Blowing a lead of 25 points at home to a team ranked in the 150s only to claw back an 11 point win isn’t the flex you think it is here, but go off. -
This coaching staff coming off a bye absolutely mollywhopped what was supposed to be our "first test" and "best defense we had played" in Nebraska. I am going to go out on a limb here. We are the best defense and offense OSU has faced. This is a make or break game for Ryan Day. Its an elimination for them. It is at the shoe. ALL the pressure is on Bucky. IU wins by two scores. Being the head basketball coach at Indiana University comes with some incredible perks. It also comes with the understanding that you will be under a microscope. MW knew that when he took the job. Arguing about whether he is a good basketball coach is unnecessary because we have objective data to make that determination. MW is .517 in B1G play. He has exactly 5 wins over teams that finished ranked in the AP Poll, and two of those are Purdue in TJDs final season where he was NPOY runner up. He has exactly 0 wins against non-conference teams that finished ranked-- and most of those have been brutal blowouts. I say that to say this: the pressure is on, this is a very talented team. However, the empirical data tells us to be skeptical. Also, its a Fire Mike Woodson thread lol. -

A friend and I were discussing this phenomena the other day. I am not nearly as locked in on BBall right now as I normally would be. Which is a crazy/great place to be. The internet narrative of IU being unwilling or unable to pay big boy money in football is now gone. We have our coach, and made a general statement to potential future coaches and players that IU is prepared to have a seat at the big boy table. It is a good thing all around no matter how Cig pans out (although I am guessing we end up naming the stadium or field after him before all is said and done). -

The one time I wanted Ballo to miss one and I would have nailed our score in the prediction league and he drills them both for 87 lmao -
My big takeaway is the Rice/Carlyle combo on defense is refreshing. They both really seem to enjoy defending and it is going to be a strength. Our back court is really going to give teams fits I think. Offensively it looks pretty much the same as it ever was under Woody with a little more dribble drive from Rice. MM looks better on defense too IMO. On to the next one.
