  1. Yikes. Pretty hard not to draw a line to why he’s not at IU lol. I don’t blame the kid at all, he’s thriving under Hurley.
  2. We need a prediction league thread for how long the FMW thread gets before he gets fired.
  3. Thanks for talking us off the ledge lmfao.
  4. If we waited until after the BOT term ends to fire him it will be confirmed IU basketball is an unserious program.
  5. I unfortunately feel the same way. If he manages to get this team in the tourney I will actually be pretty surprised if we let him go. If he misses the tourney with this roster, I would assume it’s a foregone conclusion he gets fired. Wish I had more hope lol
  6. I, for one, would definitely call someone a Woodson cultist to their face if they had the audacity to defend his handling of our program to my face. I try to give you the benefit of the doubt, but bringing up “forum guidelines” is seriously funny work. You’re quickly going from quirky Mike Woodson apologist to Fire Mike Woodson Thread official troll. Your message board persona projection is a two way street man.
  7. With you on this. His majesty is not getting fired mid season no matter how poorly it goes IMO, and as much as I would like it/how much it could heal the divide in the fanbase he seems way too proud a person to announce it as his last season. Im fairly convinced this separation will be ugly and public. Woody has a history of being less than gracious when he gets relieved of his coaching duties, which, coincidentally, has happened every time he has been a HC. I also don’t think an interim coach accomplishes anything in the near term and I really wouldn’t want to risk an Ohio State situation. We cannot afford another miss or take a chance on someone who rallies for some good wins. We need a full and real coaching search. Not a Brad said no and panic situation. After the moves for football I have faith in Dolson+Whitten if they’re allowed to operate independently.
  8. The whole time during that story, all I could think was I wonder type of pizza Woody orders in Btown and why it definitely is dominos.
  9. For me, it’s not that he never coached college, it is that his body of work in the NBA wasn’t good enough to get the HC job at Indiana. There isn’t a head coach at any level not named Mike Woodson that’s a career .463 head coach that would have even gotten thought of, much less hired. There’s plenty of NBA coaches who wouldn’t need college experience to be successful. If it wasn’t for prime Melo, he probably has about 300 less games he’s a head coach and 100 points lower in winning percentage at the NBA level. I guess what I’m getting at is it’s Carmelo Anthony’s fault Woody is our head coach.. or Sunday sativa has scrambled my brain. Either way, Fire Mike Woodson
  10. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/1958916-the-time-has-come-for-new-york-knicks-to-fire-mike-woodson The sad part is none of what we are talking about in regards to MW in regards to style of play on both sides of the ball is not unique to his tenure here. This article is from a couple months before he and his entire staff were fired by Phil Jackson. The arguments are so similar its eerie-- particularly his adherence to humongous lineups and bad defense. QB knew this stuff, so did basically anyone with access to google, and yet, here we are. More from the NBA on MW in direct quotes: "I mean, again, certain strategies were placed upon us with Coach Woodson. There were times when we didn’t quite buy into it and as a result of that, we lost games." -Amare Stoudemire, a week before his firing. Stop me if you have heard something like this before: “Am I the guy for the job? I’m the only guy for this job,” Woodson reiterated. “I’ve always said that. And I don’t mean that in a braggadocios way. I feel good about what I do as a coach. I know the system works." -Mike Woodson, before his firing. Sounds like a hump that couldn't be scaled, Zaza Pachulia after his ouster in Atlanta: "We grew up as a team and as players. He helped a lot of players get better," Pachulia told the AP. "But when you get better, you want even more. I think we're in the stage now where it's not about progress. It's about winning a championship." Here is gem from Atlanta Constitution journalist Jeff Schultz (who Atlanta Hawks PR eventually had to intervene for because Woody would not answer his questions; presumably he was not a true fan of Atlanta Hawks basketball, but I digress): “All I can say is for a tough guy who played for a tough coach, he’s one of the most thin-skinned, insecure people I’ve ever met.”
  11. Great point. IU Basketball is currently getting the SEC Football version of poll inertia. The B1G is also down this year on the whole IMO. .500 in league play is not going to get in I don't think. We really needed a Q1 win in the Bahamas and it was not being talked about enough. The rest of the non-con left no room for laying an egg like that. I understand why Woody scheduled like he did this season since getting smashed in national marquee games is a trademark of his regime, but it left us zero wiggle room. Last night was a winnable road game, any shot at the tourney requires those now to sniff the bubble.
  12. Really interesting data Doc. Now do Quadrant 1 wins without TJD in the lineup lmao bet that gets interesting.
  13. We have two records now this year that have to be pretty unique for any team: One game where we had more turnovers (23) than made field goals (21). One game where we lost by 17 points to a team that took 16 fewer field goals. I thankfully could not watch the second half due to early work today, but one thing I really do not understand is the inability for IU teams under Woody to play 40 minutes. Couldn't we be at least mediocre for a full game and keep it close lol? 1-18 to finish the game? How does that even happen? From tied at 64 with 9:57 left to scoring 4 more points? I went to sleep thinking we might keep it close on the road or even pull out a win, and wake up to losing to Nebraska by double digits, again. Just from the box score, the absurdity of that last 10 minutes are hard to quantify.
  14. I dont think so unless someone has a medical issue to try and get that waiver. Basketball is weird compared to football, you play in even 1 game and you burn a redshirt. Football passed a rule allowing dudes to appear in up to 4 a few years ago and keep the eligibility. I would probably just play out the season and catch as much NIL as possible in the process. Who knows though, definitely curious as to how that locker room is doing. Way too much talent to look like they have, and the players have to know it. Even with all the money flying around and the fact that they are employees, I still feel bad for the players not being put in positions to be successful.
  15. Prediction League score about to go brrrrrr with this abomination. In a surprise to absolutely no one here, Team Mercenary is not working with MW at the helm. It is almost like a huge segment of the fanbase that needed to chill and be a true fan were right. Fire King Woody.
  16. There is really no reason to pay attention to, or put much stock in HS recruiting until he is gone. The system is bad, the tape is ugly, he is bordering lame duck status, and MW is notorious for being an uninvolved recruiter. What we have seen will be how it is--maybe one long term recruiting win and then a spring add when a kid has reasons things change in their recruitment and/or NIL demands. HS recruiting is usually one of my favorite things to follow but there really is not any point until he is gone so I have mostly stopped. It is what it is at this point. No point in getting worked into a lather over it, HS recruiting has been middling to terrible his entire tenure. We had a recruiting class of zero people in March lol--which made us the only P4 team without one. To me, the lack of success with HS recruiting is one of the largest red flags about the state of the program internally. The HH podcast I take with a grain of salt, but my guess is they probably have receipts for a lot of what they said, which is why they were comfortable airing the laundry. The HS recruiting makes me believe more of it than I maybe would normally when it comes to a weird spurned wanna be media type. The bright side, is this is all easily fixed with the right hire in the NIL era. We would be in REALLY dire straights without it, and ultimately it bought MW another year. Sans NIL/transfer portal the next coach and IU would be staring at a Crean level rebuild due to the lack of players we have gotten. We just gotta ride this out, and look forward to the next guy.
  17. Basketball Season Once so important to me Now an afterthought
  18. Peanuts. Still not sure he does a one year jump from one big job to another in conference, which would be pretty unprecedented I think. But that’s chicken feed if IU decides to be serious and buyout a coach other teams actually want. Instead of, ya know, hiring someone no one wanted as a head coach.
  19. Yea of all my gripes for Woody developing big men isn’t one of them. All of them have gotten better. Now an argument for Malik’s defense and fouling being still atrocious in year three can be made, but his antiquated defense is responsible for a lot of that and causing guys already out position being switched down. Better teams exploit this constantly putting MR on a 3 or MM on 2. Offensively Woody has gotten a lot out of guys. Ware was considered a bust of a 5* before IU and completely rehabilitated how NBA types viewed him and as a result got drafted.
  20. It is also critically important we are not left behind in the next shuffle of conferences. The writing is on the wall even with the commentary surrounding the current 12-team playoff. It was somewhat openly being discussed on ESPN after the release about the top programs (30-40ish) breaking away. IU cannot be left behind due to the financial implications of being an afterthought that does not invest in the football program. This is IMO why you have seen the commitment, not simply just Cig winning big year 1. This HAD to happen (major resources to football), and I am fairly certain the powers that be knew this. The entire university cannot afford for football to be bad.
  21. I do not even bother with that noise. Woody does not get extra credit for doing what he and this team are paid 10 Million to do. Minnesota is a mid major roster if not worse. Even when they aren't, IU basketball should expect double digit wins at home against Minnesota. That team may struggle to win 3 games (if that) in the B1G. This win does not move the needle at all, it is a 15 point Q4 win at home, it was a must have not an accomplishment. Anyone arguing otherwise is a clown, and when the two big lineup is not working against a team with a pulse we will not have the luxury of waiting 8 minutes to make a change. The smaller lineup went on a 12-1 run and we never really looked back. Maybe Woody will adjust quicker versus better competition, but history says he is pretty stubborn about his lineups. Sorry for the rant, the shills shilling for stuff IU basketball should be expected to do is so annoying to me lol
  22. As someone mentioned earlier, it would be so much easier to root for this team and even Woody if he would just come out and say he is retiring at the end of the season. I know it probably will not happen, but it isn't like there is some baller class to keep together. It was one of the arguments like 1000 pages ago last season. McNeeley alone was not enough for him to be brought back IMO, and after LM left and we had a recruiting class of zero, that should have been it. We are in a precariously similar position this season. Next season will be portal heavy no matter who the coach is I don't see why they (or Woody himself) wouldn't want to bow out gracefully and maybe generate some goodwill with the fanbase. That tells me that it is no guarantee he is gone, and this is still results based.
