More fun with analytics: Winthrop basketball dropped nearly 20 spots in kenpom for losing at Assembly Hall by 9 (in a game that was closer than the final score indicated) to the Indiana University Basketball Team. It is hard to overstate how bonkers that is. They should have gained due to their performance, but the models hate our basketball so much we are now a net negative for both teams. If I’m a mid major, I’m not taking a buy game at IU. We obliterated their resume for going on the road and hurt ours by winning in lackluster fashion. It would be hilarious if it wasn’t my alma mater. Im tired boss.

I can’t bring myself to remotely care about anyone on this team partying before a game. Apathetic does not begin to describe my feelings. But I am here and I will watch because I have a problem.

Archie was 102-36 his last four years at Dayton. 70 games above .500 He won the A10 the last two years and was A10 COTY his last season at Dayton. He absolutely was a hot coach at the time. Again, not trying to litigate the hire again, but it was universally seen as a slam dunk by everyone other than Alford stans lol

As I said before he wasn’t my first choice, but he was the hottest young coach in college basketball. It was universally thought to be a great hire. Saying otherwise is revisionist history. He was wanted all over high major basketball. hindsight says yes, bad hire, in the moment, it absolutely was a good hire.

Hindsight is definitely 20/20 when it comes to Archie, at the time, the national media thought it was a slam dunk. I certainly did, he wasn’t my first or second choice, but I was happy with it. Clearly the job was simply too big for him and his personality didn’t mesh with the fish bowl that is being the HC at IU. Sometimes it simply doesn’t work out, and that’s okay. I’m happy for Archie that he has seemingly found success again at a lower level. He was a hire that made sense. Hiring Woody never made any sense to anyone.
