You can’t have two post players in at the same time for extended periods that cannot step out and knock down a jumper or 3. This again is a selective way to look at it. You are referencing IU approaching Stevens when he is at the Celtics making great money and winning. There was a long period of time before he went there that he would have jumped at the chance to come to IU. We didn’t move on him when the timing was right for Stevens and he moved on. You don’t wait on Archie or Crean or Davis to dictate timing you move when the timing is right for the candidate you want. We wait and wait and wait until our current coach is 100% dead in the water and then see what we can get and that is limiting. Could have grabbed Pitino, Self, Stevens amongst others if we dictated timing You are also corroborating what many argued in the fire Fred glass thread, that despite athletic budgets growing under glass, we aren’t in great shape and could always use more revenue and donations. That’s kind of a selective way of looking at it. In that case, no coach would leave a school they were successful at as they could easily stay there and be safe. Safe isn’t what these guys thrive on. Coaches have massive egos and want to fulfill that. There is without a doubt, except for a few, that Indiana is still a destination program. There is more evidence to support that then not. Any coach that thinks that not making the tournament 3 years in a row and getting swept by our rival for 3 years and setting records for blowout losses and showing no signs of being able to build a successful team isn’t a coach we would want. You’ve been suggesting for a long time that big fish don’t want to be here but recently acknowledged what I and others have said for a while - it’s not IU that they don’t want, a HUGE part of it is that we aren’t willing to pay for them to take the risk. My point is that many have suggested Archie is being held back by the school and using the term handcuffed to excuse him for losses and poor performance. Now, to my point, Dan wasn’t a fan of the hire nor the staff Archie brought in and has gone as far as to belittle and make fun of each of them. He has been critical of the school, staff and team and for many, he is just telling it like it is. Dan would likely know if Archie is being handcuffed and would have no qualms against sharing that type of information. It would behoove him to share it, it would bring more listeners and debate and interest around what is happening. If he knew of any handcuffing he, more than anyone would talk about it. I’m right there with you. I was hopeful for a donovan or Stevens but knew those were a longshot. Hard part there is that Stevens didn’t need to be a longshot, had we offered him prior to the celtics he would have come and been giddy about it. That said, Archie seemed like the next best thing and I was happy with it. There is no satisfaction or told you so seeing him fail. I love IU basketball and want to see a win no matter who is the coach. I am just sad to see what has become of my favorite team and have seen most of my friends and family stop caring or watching. There were decades where every game was can’t miss and we all watched together or were in communication about every game. It was a joy and something that brought us together. This is the biggest load of crap ever. Until anyone in the know comes out with a matter of fact list of holy **** things the administration is doing to make him coach and the players play so horribly then it’s crap. It doesn’t exist. Sadly I think we are stuck as fans. I truly think indiana will stick with him through 5 seasons and drag this program into hell. I have zero faith in him and zero faith in the school. I think we are all truly going to have to decide if we want to maintain this level of passion and love for what is and will become Iowa basketball.
