  1. Glass needs to admit to his bosses and the world that he made a mistake. He will never present it that way Publicly but by recommending and forcing a change that is what he is doing. It wasn't a disastrous decision to extend/support Crean, many people thought after 2011 that he was the right coach. I wasn't convinced but many were so I can't blame him for feeling that way. Yes, when he makes that reco to remove Crean he has to recommend a better fit. We cannot have 1 solution, that is complete BS, no pun intended. It is his job to find a coach that is an upgrade and if he is the AD that some think he is, then it shouldn't be this impossible feat that many are making it out to be. It's not Stevens or Crean. Duke and UNC will both be replacing legends in the next few years and when the time comes, they might try for Stevens if he is available but if he isn't, they are going to have to hire someone. Therefore, there are two coaches out there that are good enough for Duke and UNC so they are likely good enough for IU. Who are those coaches? I don't know, not my job to figure out. Point is, Crean hasn't destroyed a brand, but his control has deteriorated it and that will continue and the impact will be LONG lasting and longer every minute he is here. Furthermore, there are two coaches out there that will be taking over at two of the blue bloods very soon... Who are they? They exist Glass, go find them and get them locked up before those two come calling
  2. so even you believe we have likely dropped from "2-3" to 8 in 15 years. That trend will continue unless immediate action is taken to correct that. That stat sums up my point that we are surviving on the equity that was built over 50 years... The brand that Crean has built is not a top 8 brand so he is borrowing against inherited equity. The brand he has built is top 30 and that is where we will be 30 years from now if Glass doesn't look at this from a longterm approach. We are top 8 NOW because of what we were doing 30 years ago, what we are doing now will likewise be visible 30 years from now
  3. I'm not following the argument here about Glass and us being fanboys. Brands often take decades to build and decades to be destroyed. My wife and I both work in marketing/advertising and there are two things all brands look at, immediate results to appease the board and shareholders and the longterm health and longevity of the brand. What was built over 50 years has been chipped away at for 15 years. Basketball revenues are up across the board so looking at an increase is irrelevant unless compared to other institutions in the same comp list. Again, that is only looking at the short term. The longterm damages won't be realized in Glass and McRobbies tenure, it will be realized over the coming decades. This has nothing to do with being a fanboy, but everything to do with business and a business of this sort has to be viewed from a larger lens than a few years.
  4. @ Mdn82 - I don't know if the basketball program is meeting it's revenue goals or not but if they are, the bar wasn't set high enough. How many more empty seats are there this year vs 2012? How many fewer beverages/food has been sold? How many fewer jerseys and candy striped pants have been sold? How many fewer people are subscribing online to watch the preseason games? How many fewer viewers are tuning in? These are all immediate problems but then they have the latent problems related to the bastardization of this brand: how many fewer youngsters are not growing up rabid for IU basketball and are instead wearing Duke and UK stuff and becoming die hards for them instead? This young generation has fewer reasons to care and doesn't have the history to fall back on. They will likely never become die hard fans like you and I. What is that life time opportunity loss? If the administration is that narrow sighted to only look at what's happening right now then they are missing a lot and killing any hope of IU being a basketball school with one of the biggest fan bases in the world as soon as one more generation from now. If they are ok killing this brand and losing out long term on all the things that come with being a basketball school then we are all wasting our time on this site and caring as much as we do
  5. pretty sure Anthony Davis got $280k
  6. haha, yes, was thinking about his time at Indiana where we went to the sweet 16. Those are his miracle years at Indiana. And yes, I think a good coach could take this bunch further
  7. depends on what you call a rebuild or down year. For many coaches a rebuild or down year is a Crean miracle year
  8. i 100% agree. The strength coach has no business being on the bench during games (why?) and if he is he shouldn't be coaching the players, talking to them in timeouts, pulling them aside. I have noticed this over and over and it makes zero cents. If he is there to cheer then have him sit with the cheerleaders, this is Indiana and don't need flavor flav on our bench. Players are already confused enough, don't need another guy with even less basketball knowledge in their ears during the game Sterling nailed it 1-7
  9. Does he play defense?
  10. sadly we are barely on his radar anymore. He feels better with the current situations at Arizona State and Notre Dame than he does IU. Won't be Maker
  11. Holtmann and Mack have to be in the running. No Stevens, no Donovan no Bennett, then these two are up there
  12. Bump, haha
  13. he didn't start a game just a few weeks ago
  14. i think people are just beat down. Even the most positive people I know are just down and having a hard time getting excited for IU basketball anymore. I hate that I don't get butterflies or knots in my stomach in big games/big moments anymore. It's just gotten sooooo hard to get up for this anymore
  15. If Stevens isn't available I would be happy with a Billy Donovan. 2 national championships, players in the NBA, NBA coaching experience, relatively young, would kill it at a Basketball school like IU
  16. probably wouldn't have played but he might have been on the bench for it
  17. Tj leaf is tearing it up on ESPN against daron fox that is going to UK. A lot of people poo poo Alford but he is setting himself up nicely
  18. crean better get on TB if this is true
  19. THE most underachieving? Wow! Is that right? There is no other team and coach underachieving more than ours? Is that a three year average? I think we would win that too
  20. i give Yogi credit for being an individual talent, perhaps one of the top 10 post Knight, but there has been nothing but disappointment since he got inserted into a leadership role 3 years ago
  21. Not sure how to word this properly but, while I don't think newkirk is even close to as talented as Yogi, I think someone new at point, perhaps newkirk could be more effective. Looking forward to seeing how much of our struggles have been related to Yogi over the past 3 years. It might be a ton better or a ton worse once he's gone but won't know until someone else takes over
  22. cant worry about losing a few recruits or players. The new coach could easily bring in his own that fit his system better, so we could have our cake and eat it too as you say
  23. cool, not a tax expert. Just curious if other elements were being considered outside of salary. They are all going to be better suited to make money for the rest of their lives due to the championships they won, salary increase or decrease
  24. are you guys talking salaries only or including brand value? There is no question at all that the big three in Miami's overall brand value went up by winning championships in Miami vs playing for the cavs or raptors
  25. Just came here to post that I am rooting for GS! No need for Stevens to be more successful
