Yes. Quite the drama for a war flick. Studied groundwater flow and water engineering way back in a previous life. It is somewhat unusual for a dam to crack like the picture posted earlier. More typical is that water saturation and or flowage would make the base unstable. Think quicksand. That or erosion though piping where animals burrowed, or tree roots rotted. Bigger dams are generally attached to bedrock if available. Otherwise a long series of steel sheet pile is driven way beyond the structure to cut off any possible threat to seepage. Just like in Force 10...a little can become a lot. That was cool. I always think about nuclear power plants that are sited near the Cascades in Oregon. What ever happened to Mount St. Helen? Or the nuclear plant that was sited in Japan in an area that can be flooded. Come on now. Dayton has a history of some huge earthen dams for stormwater control. The chief engineer from Dayton's Miami Conservancy District became the first chief engineer of the TVA. I got a job offer as a Civil Engineer for the Army Corp of Engineers. Turned them down. Their HQ is in Mobile Alabama. My wife said no way, Jose. I tossed a coin and lost. Turned the job down. Neutered at an early age. Starting a Go Fund Me page for sad sacks. I introduce her as my first wife. Still do....still is after 47 years. My list of coach prospects: Not Woodson; not Archie; not DD; maybe Cig's twin brother...a winner. -
Sorry. I have no insight to Archie Miller's performance at URI that can't easily be found online. It was hell while he was at Indiana. I have no appetite to follow his coaching anymore. Having said that, I wish him well. I do perk up when Rhode Island plays Dayton. 5 days ago, they played out east. Rhode Island jumped to a 10 point lead and was flying to the hoop...hitting 2s. Dayton went to a zone and later changed that but Rhode Island got behind by 20 at home. RI could not hit and turned the ball over. Let's say that he has been rebuilding at Rhode Island. But this is his 3rd year. Rhode Island Rams (Atlantic 10 Conference) (2022–present) 2022–23 Rhode Island 9–22 5–13 14th 2023–24 Rhode Island 12–20 6–12 T–10th 2024–25 Rhode Island 17–11 6–10 Rhode Island: 38–53 (.418) 17–35 (.327) Rhode Island is doing better this year in non-conference and at home. But on the road they are a disaster. Seems that they are a touch better every year. But, of course, fans want more wins. And they want to sniff the NCAAT. His teams are struggling and just can't make it into the top half of the conference. This is Miller's 3rd year at Rhode Island. They don't get any big wins against the top teams. They also need road wins in conference and only have one. Rhode Island only has a couple of good players. Same thing will happen next year unless they can bring in a PG from the portal while keeping the core players. From the outside, looks like Miller's on court game coaching is failing, again. He will have one more year there... The only real litmus I have is in watching Dayton vs Rhode Island. Dayton has better players and is better coached. But is it because Rhode Island doesn't have the horses? Or is it the coach? Archie Miller really does rely on good guards to defend and put the ball into the offense. I have not seen him with a good PG in 7 years. Fans realize that getting players is hard. But they did expect the teams to be exceptionally well coached. That is not happening. A lifetime ago, I lived in eastern Connecticut...Groton. Was assigned to submarine service on a fast attack. We would regularly hit some really splendid restaurants overlooking the beaches. Visited Cape Cod. And the history in that area is incredible. The sea casts a spell over everything. Until you have to live in it.

I never let facts interfere with my decision making. -
I watched his Wright State teams here in Dayton. Just 5 miles from my house in the missed approach to WPAFB. Pass on Brownell. Now, Archie Miller was great. Obviously, stuff like that does not translate into the BIG TIME. And I questioned Archie's hire...but was hopeful I did not question Tom Crean's hire...I was against it. I did not understand Woodson's hire. Mike Davis was so wrong. Sampson was interesting. But IU blew it by not providing oversight. And Sampson could not put the cell phone down. Sad. Indiana had to really try to skewer IU men's basketball brand. They should be proud. Herbert, your actions are still perceived as not in the interests of Indiana University. Who will be the next body that we can burn in effigy?

Does anyone really know who the next HC will be? Sometimes the light's all shinin' on me. Other times I can barely see. Lately it occurs to me... What a long, strange trip it's been. -

I am a skeptic. Show me....who will definitely ink a contract. Until then I have a question: There was a fun sports bar in Fort Myers Beach named Hoosiers in Paradise. Do you have knowledge of that? Any connections? Saw some games there. Fun memories. Walls were like Nick's upstairs. Lots of B1G fans attended viewing the games. Not just Hoosiers in paradise. -
1:09 remaining. Michigan going down to Illinois 87 to 70. At Michigan.

Uhm...in reading the above post... Nothing in the first few sentences is proven. Then there is one good sentence about admiring posters that are not worried and believe we will get a great coach. I am not worried. Worry means that someone or something is controlling the worrier. It is all speculation at this point. Unconfirmed at our level. Too much noise out there to get all worked up, imho. Yes, IU has degraded the IU basketball brand. And the name of Indiana University in many people's eyes. So suck it up buttercup. Think about something else. Let us dream of the magical sparkle pony dusting IU basketball. Or dream of our Ahab actually landing the great white whale...Moby Brad. -
That is true. We all know it. But I am being more blunt. I am not worried about it though. With this team, anything can happen. Worrying cannot help. Spoiler alert: -
Yes, Reneau is in Washington. Washington is playing better. But so is IU. Washington has lost many games because they had nothing for a while. They do not defend the 3. Can IU hit the 3 today? Inside, it will depend on which center gets 2 fouls first. And will Miles Rice play with his head down driving into trouble? Will Galloway turn over the ball? Will Mgbako have a good game?

Game Day! Get excited.... Washington Huskies? Coach Danny Sprinkle's first year with the team is being questioned: "...18th out of 18 with four games to go? Yes, there have been a couple of injuries to UW’s post players. Chris Conway, the transfer from Oakland (Mich.), has not suited up all season. Franck Kepnang, who is perpetually sidelined, missed 17 games in a row before returning Jan. 24. But the season was never going to come down to that pair’s health. This Husky team just never came together. Some might point to the brutal schedule they faced in the early weeks of conference play. Fair. Except that doesn’t excuse some of the drubbings they experienced. Michigan State beat them by 34. Michigan trounced them by 16 the next game. And though the Huskies led Purdue by eight at halftime, they were outscored by 19 in the final 20 minutes. So have there been any signs of potential? Sure. Topping Maryland, the 16th-ranked team in the country, made it seem as though UW could hang with some of the nation’s top teams. This wasn’t the Huskies getting hot from outside and making a bevy of uncharacteristic shots — this was them simply outplaying the Terps. " Here’s upside of disappointing first year for Washington Husky men under Danny Sprinkle | The Seattle Times From a fan's comment on the above-linked article: "...they've been improving. they haven't been able to convert that into very many wins yet, but with the offense running through Zoom and Osobor, they have at least looked functional and competitive." Washington, a PAC 12 football-oriented program is bound to have the men's basketball team have some growing pains after they joined the tough B1G conference. They are just about completing a $60 million upgrade of basketball facilities. And they popped for $2 million, I understand, for a PG, and he is out there right now. (Not worth it, some say.) The keys to this game: A good start would help; Ballo vs Franck Kepnang 6'11" who gets 2 fouls first; 3-point efficiency; turnovers; effort on both sides of the game; Reneau. Kepnang is a big, broad-shouldered center who is an outstanding shot blocker and interior defender. He's naturally strong and hold his ground well and he's explosive off the floor, rising way above the rim. He's an intimidator and enforcer inside. He missed a bunch of games with knee surgery this season...but he is back. We shall see.

We've heard what you said. I don't believe most of what is posted here or anywhere without independent verification. And I don't believe the Brad Stevens' to IU rumors until he signs. It is just talk so far. Until someone posts something that is verifiable. And McCollum has won and looks good. Except that he hasn't beaten a team yet that is in the top 50. Or run a big program. Or really recruited the big time. Or worked with NIL. And don't go crazy because other people don't believe what they can't see or experience themselves. If you are like that, then you are letting other people control you. There's way too much of that stuff going around today in the media and politics.
