It's actually a great characteristic in a coach -- adapt to the personnel you have.
-
Seems like it may happen with a coaching change. But that's about it.

Coaching Changes Nationally
Golfman25 replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Whadda mean, no hookers or blow? :) -
With almost no rules and adding the NIL it's going to end up as a problem for college basketball. A transfer here and there and the ability of guys to play under certain circumstances without sitting a year is good. Massive team upheaval every year, not so good.

Are we sure Woodson is done in a few years. I mean Pitino just got a 6 year deal at 70. :) -
Coaching Changes Nationally

Not quite the Lee Elia rant, but close. :) -
It’s the difference between practicing until you get it right and practicing until you can’t get it wrong. Very few do the latter.

Nothing like betting on yourself.

A lot (say 80%) of player development is on the player. The coaches and staff can give him a road map, but it's really up to the player to put in the work. Some guys have it, some don't. Recruiting attitude goes a long way with it.
-
Right. Some are looking at the NIL as a General Manager's budget. And certainly, some is, wink, wink. I assume the big money comes from the collective. But these guys are free to cut their own deals as well. If Campus Cars wants to run an ad campaign with the likes of Leal, etc. they are free to do it. Kind of crazy that there is zero transparency on these things. Big problems ahead, imo.
-
Yeah, not sure any of the bench guys should be asking for anything. Sad what college B-ball has become.
-
As long as we find the guy who hit's them from the mid court sticker I'm in. :)
-
Might be the other way around. With all due respect to X. JHS has a lot to think about. He’ll clearly get drafted. But at the same time, another college year under Woody would benefit him (barring major injury). He was thrown into the pool and for the most part advanced his game quickly. But was still a freshman with some freshman issues.
-
There is no magic wand which automatically gets players. It was a choice between some continuity or blowing it up. He had no college track record to “impress” recruits/transfers. He does now. This year and next will really tell where he is taking the program.
-
Yeah. He had a choice when he arrived. Blow it up and start from scratch. But as a new to college coach, that probably would have been a mistake. By keeping it together he was able to bring some success and show the college world what he is about. He's no longer a mystery to the league or the incoming players. Anyone who has serious NBA aspirations would be a fool not to at least consider playing for him. TJD and JHS are his "finished projects" and both markedly better than when they got here with legit NBA careers ahead of them.
-
It did with respect to the fact we didn't have consistent outside threats around him. If we had two or three guys outside who could shoot and slash, would likely have made a difference.
-
Certainly the kind of portal kid we want to take a serious look at. Has a couple years left, stuck with FL thru their coaching change. May need the kind of development Woodson can provide (see JHS).

Will be a completely different team. No more toss it to the big man. Will need a much more varied offense. But I’ll bet we’ll still be middle of Big20 (or whatever it will be next year) plus a tournament birth. -

Nah. If he’s thinking NBA he’ll realize he’s in the right place. Say what you will but TJD is twice the player today under Woodson than he was two years ago. -

Well what’s the recruiting window. Probably 2 years for the best players? HS juniors this year a probably Woodson’s first all Woodson recruits. -

That’s just freaking nonsense. Program is headed in the right direction. He kept the Archie pieces in place so we didn’t go full rebuild. Now some guys will graduate and some will leave, opening up all sorts of possibilities. -

Yeah. I’m just saying when theses young guys and new transfers show up this we need “senior” leadership to say “welcome to IU. This is what we do around here.” -

How can that be when the Big10 gets trounced the first weekend every year. Why can’t you just play smart winning basketball regardless of the conference makeup. -

I’d keep trey in the lineup. He’s your bleed Indiana guy. Going to be the guy who sets the culture, at least on the court. Going to have a lot of new faces who will need to learn.
