    A coach who views IU as his dream job and gives the program a shot in the arm becomes ill and only coaches here for two seasons.        Sadly we've seen this before. Unbelievable.  :(

    The position numbers on the Tampa Bay Rays' lineup card tonight were, in order, 8-6-7-5-3-DH-9.

    The old Verlander made an appearance tonight: 7 innings, 1 earned run, 4 hits, 1 walk, 8 strikeouts.      The Tigers' overpaid closer stole a win from him.

    It really is amazing how bad Justin Verlander has become. Once a threat to throw a no-hitter every time he took the mound, he's now sporting a 4.76 ERA with more walks and fewer strikeouts.

    After a 27-12 start, the Tigers have dropped 15 of their last 21 and have allowed the Indians to go from 10.5 games back to just 2 back in three weeks.      I feel like I'm watching the Pacers' collapse all over again, just a different sport and much earlier in the season. Unbelievable.

    I stopped praying a few years ago after losing my dad and three of my grandparents in less than five years (two to cancer, one to cardiac arrest and another to heart medicine that was improperly manufactured). But reading this thread, I'll pray for those that need it. If it's not going to help me, maybe it can help someone else.

      I totally forgot Brandon Knight played for UK until a Pacers/Pistons game last month. They've had so many one and dones it's hard to remember them all.

    He could have played this past season with one eye and still shot the highest percentage on our team.

    The Tigers have now had 3 games rained out.    Someone tell me again why MLB is hellbent on starting so early?

    The Tigers' league-worst bullpen (5.63 ERA) took a 10-1 sixth-inning lead tonight and managed to make it interesting late.

    God the Tigers' bullpen is a joke.

    Rhetorical question: Does MLB have an unwritten rule that any Sunday game between the Red Sox and Yankees is automatically televised by ESPN? It's nice to know that about 10 Sunday night games this season will be pumping a rivalry that really isn't as big as it used to be.

    I guess thinking your team's bullpen sucks is a part of baseball fandom.      But the Tigers' bullpen is really, truly awful.

    So I take it this game won't be made up? Too bad, a winnable non-conference game would have been nice.

    Wow, quick game. Only an hour and 45 minutes.      Either at Minnesota or home against South Dakota St. in the quarterfinals.

    It was apparent most of the year, and still apparent tonight (though this game isn't over yet) that while the program has made great strides since Miller got here, they have a ways to go before they catch up with most of the Big Ten.

    I'm not giving up on this team yet, as they've only played one conference series, but as the losses pile up, my hopes for a return trip to the CWS, or even the Super Regionals, are diminishing.

    Five losses by one run. Losing Halstead really sucks.

    Did last year's team overachieve that much? I get that this team has had a fairly difficult schedule, but there just hasn't been any consistency whatsoever.      If they don't get things figured out soon, they may not even make the tournament.

      That's terrible. How the hell do you get picked off at 3rd?

    Two out errors will kill you every time.      Schwarber with an errant throw to first on a surprise bunt attempt extends the inning. Morris gets ahead 1-2 and then hits the next batter. That's followed up by a bases clearing double and Michigan leads 4-2.

    Marquette at home Saturday night. Win that, and we'll host either Northwestern or IUPUI in the round of 16.
