I'm sorry if this is too blunt but... If Dane Fife is hired as the next Indiana head coach, it is the death knell of Indiana as a blue blood program. Regardless of whether he turns out to be a good coach, which is far from certain.
BTownInsider on the other board still saying it's Donovan. Was asked the last time he checked with his source and said it was today.
Also: "It won't be Alford. If so someone with a lot of pull has gone over a lot of people's heads."
Yeah, I don't get the Fife love. If he wasn't a former IU player would we even be talking about him? I suspect not.
He needs to go coach a mid major and prove he has the chops before getting a premiere job like Indiana.
Thanks for bringing this information to the board.
Also - is flying to Bloomington from Carmel prudent? I mean, it can't save much time right? Costs a heck of a lot more. What I'm trying to say is planes are not ideal travel accommodations for what would otherwise be an hour long drive.
If he's happy in OKC (you are free to challenge the "if" part), he's not coming here on a match. "Only" 4th highest paid suddenly goes up. Highest paid via Google search says Coach K at $7.3 million.
This is my main reason for skepticism too. Money always talks but I don't know how you can beat that honestly without setting a whole new coaching market.
Lots of coaches in both football and basketball. Every year there is a story about a football coach ditching his team before a bowl game for a better job. How about the guy Illinois just hired? Left Oklahoma State after 1 year because they tripled his salary. OK State AD found out about it on twitter.
Usually that all comes down to money. I have no idea how that normal course of events fits with Donovan though because he's already making $6 million per year. Hard to believe we could give him a significant raise. He'd have to really want to leave the NBA to make it happen.
Eh, when you have the league MVP on your team (predicting that) it's a pretty good situation. Not saying he won't leave, but it's definitely a larger hurdle.
