I think there could be better players in the portal but if MR would have chose to leave and I was a portal kid thinking of Indiana I would be less interested if their better players left. At least with MR you know what his weaknesses are. Portal guys all we see are scoring highlights and numbers. Now, I do share concerns that the inability to see the double team coming and pass out of it may remain a big issue. If he fixes that and we get shooters to pass to, things could work nicely

To be clearer. MR said he would do some NBA evaluation it seems fully to be information gathering for him. Right after talking about that he said but I will be back at IU. As for MM, MR did sort of indicate that MM would probably be back unless he gets some news from the NBA evaluation

I agree. He would be a top talent in the portal. We already know him and he apparently does not hate playing here. Does he need to become a smarter defender, absolutely. But he is a solid get and IF Woody blew all his $ on his returning players he won’t have any left for new kids and that will be him.

Well we don’t know he would be willing to come off the bench. If he were willing to come and compete for minutes whether starting or supporting he would be a nice fit it seems.

Never saw AT. That would have been something. Scott May would play some. I remember driving on him once thinking dude I am going to score on Scott May. He clearly fouled me.

Definitely. My Dorm team won our division championship in basketball and my big-red relay won as well. But until now you guys probably never realized how much of an athlete I was. I mean am.

Still could not get in. Did they address how Woodson himself said they fell short last year? Or about how he stated his goal was to win the BT and national titles? He isn’t progressing towards winning BT and national titles. Especially with no recruits yet.

It was behind a paywall but I tried. I am pretty objective and you can see that the program is on shaky grounds. The year 3 collapse would be more tolerable if we had some promising H.S. recruits coming in. The staff could build a team strong enough to get into the NCAAs next year if a lot of things go our way, but then what? Woodys age and the lack of H.S. kids coming creates a lot of reasonable concerns for the short, medium and long term health of the program

You seem mighty frustrated. So college basketball IS the real world and you know because you played? I would assume you would have had to play very recently given how NIL has changed the recruiting dynamic. When did you play

Wonder how those guys feel about us. I know woody said we have better relationships going into the portal. I assume those are agents.

I would think we need to land someone early just for momentum but hopefully we are targeting kids that are still playing

My prior company was a long-time corporate sponsor through the Crean/Archie years. They did a good job of getting us access and creating things for us to bring customers to but customer interest really fell off during that time period. I was the point person for that and got some cool access but in the end I had to pull the plug. For the same $ we could sponsor the Colts and even with their up and down performance I had far more customer interest in them than IU. I would have to think it is even harder now for them to keep sponsors.

Maybe Alabama can be my new team. I like Oats. DeBoer is an IU guy and I almost coached the Ballou’s daughter until they moved. We exchanged emails back then so it is like we are pretty tight. BamaBuck-hmm

Did you read the OPs post i responded to? He did not seem to account for a young P5 coach just starting to have success, especially at a school that is not a typical power house. I agree he does not match those lower level guys but there are guys like him that are different from P5 guys with more sustained success.

I wish Alford would have recognized the problem with how he handled the PP situation at Iowa and worked to make some amends publicly. Admit he was blinded by loyalty to player and incorrectly assumed things he should not have blah blah blah. I don't think he would be a high end coach here but I think he could be more steady that Crean with those same levels of peaks every so often. Hoping for better though

Where does the Iowa State coach fit in this. P5 coach with similar level of success as May, Schertz?

JY’s info Seems to match up with what you said earlier to some extent. Also seems less likely we would get BP next year (age) so is the only path this year if several current players leave?
