  1. Just wanted to start this so no one gets in trouble  :cheese:     I'm not saying I agree or disagree with this, I just thought we should start this on a fun (?) note...I give you RMK's take on rankings...     "The credibility people give to national rankings of high school players absolutely baffles me. To the best of my ability, I can't even imagine a coach, ever, who was capable of saying, 'This kid is the thirty-second best or the thirty-fourth best small forward in the country.' I'm talking about a coach. I'm talking about a guy like me who has coached in college for 30 years: to rate this kid as the best prospect, or the twelfth-best prospect, or the eightieth-best prospect. That's impossible. Most of these guys who rate kids have no concept of what it takes to put a team together. But they give a ranking to each kid, and that sells newspapers or publications, and it's gospel. Meanwhile, nobody ever follows through and sees how often they were right, and how more often they were wrong.     Where, for example, do you suppose Larry Bird was ranked nationally as a high school player? Where was Calbert Cheaney ranked? Or Karl Malone?   So many things have happened that make it tough for a kid to keep everything in perspective as he advances in development as a person and a player - the ratings systems, the McDonald's All-Star games, the elevation of those kids at 17 or 18 years old to a national status that a Jerry West or an Oscar Robertson didn't achieve until he had played three or four all-star years in the NBA. And when it finally did come to a West or a Robertson, he had earned it, rather than having it conferred on him by some moron with a pen."   http://www.hogville.net/yabbse/index.php?topic=113852.0;wap
  2. If you're thinking the last part of the last tweet is weird, it's because it is. But that guy is an IU grad so that's why he qualified it
  3. Aaron Matas @AaronMatas Overland's De'Ron Davis set to take official visit to Mississippi State this weekend. Indiana coach Tom Crean and asst Chuck Martin were...   Aaron Matas @AaronMatas ...in CO last Thursday and Martin back in town tonight. IU giving Davis the hard sell b4 visit to Miss. St.   Aaron Matas @AaronMatas Overland coach Danny Fisher says Hoosiers remain "out in front" for Davis who is a top 35 player in the nation for 2016.   Aaron Matas @AaronMatas Fisher added there's reason for the Indiana fan base to be excited right now regarding Davis' recruitment. I am unbiased and not excited...
  4. Don't know if this is a panic trip or Crean sealing the deal. Definitely big news whatever it is.
  5. Courtney Cronin @CourtneyRCronin Schnider Herard's guardian: "I think Schnider being the first big to fall is going to set a domino effect into play" clarionledger.com/story/sports/r…   Robby Donoho @RobbyDonoho And more than likely MSU isn't done reeling in big commits. 4-star F Mario Kegler & 4-star C Abdul Ado leaning towards the Bulldogs. Crazy.   Jeff Borzello @jeffborzello More good news for Ben Howland and the Bulldogs: ESPN 100 big man Abdul Ado tells ESPN he will visit Mississippi State this weekend.   Wayne posted about Ado in the other but figured it was relevant here, as well.

  10. I'm not speaking to the elated picture equals college thing but, FWIW, I think they only went to high school at St. Raymonds in the Bronx together
  11. I think the consensus is his game is on the rise. Seems to have a lot of the tools and the size that given some development could be a solid player down the line. He'll get a bump in the rankings but partly bc he committed to IU so will need to follow his HS season and see how the game develops.   I think the staff really did want Durham, but sounds like they weren't expecting it. On his end,  this may have been a bit of an emotional post visit decision. I'm not saying Durham isn't convinced IU is where he wants to be but he didn't come in close is how I heard it put. Maybe that doesn't matter.    I don't think it has much effect on the outlook on the '17 class from IU's perspective. If he develops, great. Either way, the staff will continue to recruit at his position. The in-state kids will still be a priority and can't see this having any impact. Really, biggest thing with those kids is how IU does this year.    Too much hypothetical to get upset about, imo. Just monitor his progress.
  12. I haven't heard that, but you could be right. This one is coming down to McClain's early work and connections with Colorado aau and...Adidas

  18. Corey Evans @coreyevans_10 First offer should be in any day now. Visits Michigan this Saturday. Going to be a Big 10 priority  twitter.com/Coach_Rick57/s…     Rick Lewis @Coach_Rick57 Austin Boucher has a 4.0 GPA. Interest from IU, Purdue, ND, Butler, Dayton, Xavier, Michigan, Illinois #IndyTop80
  19. I understand that. But it being decided the day before the visit suggests some things.    1) Davis is still weighing his options and not as near his decision as previously thought   or    2) Schools have weaseled their way into scheduling their visits at the last minute because they believe there was a chance Davis commits on this visit. He scheduled them, which takes making a commitment to attend that weekend, which staff at the school then begins to arrange travel plans. So while he certainly could back out, he is now realistically intending to visit. If he wasn't, you don't schedule them bc it wastes a bunch of peoples time.      So while I'm not saying he cannot commit because he has other visits scheduled, he could, this piece of news isn't adding to the logic of him committing this weekend.
  20. Well that is not great news.    Jon Rothstein @JonRothstein 2016 PF De'Ron Davis will visit Mississippi State (10/9-10/11) & Arizona (10/23-10/25), source told @CBSSports. Currently visiting Indiana.
  21. Having a good feeling here :)
