NESPN isn't even making an attempt to be objective.
-
True. Everything else I said is true though. It's either "OMG lovable, clutch, Hall of Famer, derp" for Big Roidi and he is NOT a Hall of Famer if Edgar Martinez and Tim Raines aren't. Or it's "OMG gritty, heart, determination, best 2B in baseball, derpy derp" for Mighty Midget when the best 2B in baseball is in Seattle now. I shudder to think about how they'll "honor" Jeter, 100% chance it's more Red Sox ball washing like it was with their "Boston/NESPN honoring the Red Sox with a guest appearance by Mariano Rivera". Their bias is ridiculous.
-
It's ESPN, a Red Sox/Yankees game turns into 3 hours of them slobbering all over Big Roidi and Mighty Midget Dustin Pedroia. Them honoring Mariano Rivera turned into them celebrating all thing Sawx with Rivera standing there.

I've always thought it was. It also disappeared between innings He was good the entire game so it's not like it really mattered. I still remember when Mitch Williams and Harold Reynolds got in an argument on MLBN about what pine tar does to a ball.
-
Yeah, that's what got me. It's common practice, but usually they're more discreet than that. Kenny Rogers wasn't the most discreet either when he had what looked like pine tar on his hand in the world series. He says it was dirt and rosin, but looks an awful lot like what was an Pineda's hand. Or Joe Niekro trying to throw his emery board and sandpaper away before the ump saw him, and failed.
-
Looked like pine tar to me. Yeah, it's a banned substance but the rule is very loosely enforced. Actually, doing things like that is common practice and most people don't care unless the ball is covered in it. Do I condone using a banned substance? No, but I'm not going to make a big deal out of something that happens quite a bit. The Red Sox didn't care either, their general reaction was "who cares". Although they're the last team to get upset about someone using a banned substance, with Bucholz running his hands through his greasy hair and Ortiz being a steroid user.

http://www.sportingnews.com/mlb/story/2014-04-04/derek-jeter-souvenir-ball-yankees-fan-astros-fan-houston-watch-intercept?eadid=SOC/Twi/SNMain I was watching that game and saw when it happened. Even if you hate the Yankees you have to at least respect Jeter, guy is a class act.

Tanaka's debut has been pretty impressive. 7 IP, 6 hits, 3 runs (2 earned), 0 BB, 8 K

LHP Kyle Hart Injury Report
JSHoosier replied to HoosierReb01's topic in Other Indiana Hoosiers Athletics
I looked it up online and it said 12-18 is commonly quoted but with modern techniques it's more like 9-12, that's why I posted it. Tommy John himself needed 18 months, but he also suffered a major setback in his recovery. Here's an article. I don't know what's causing it. Some teams were limiting pitch counts and innings, but that hasn't helped. The Rangers were wanting to get their pitchers going longer in games but that hasn't really helped either. A while back I heard one factor might be that kids want to learn to throw breaking balls, because it's "cool" to make the ball break, but breaking balls just speed up the process to a major injury. At the time it was suggested the kids learn a change up first and as they get older start working on breaking pitches. I'm not really sure how true that is though, but it does kind of make some sense to me since it's adding the extra strain from a breaking ball to a less developed arm so the breakdown starts earlier. At the end of the day though throwing the ball is an unnatural motion and puts a lot of strain on the arm and shoulder. -
Japanese star Masahiro Tanaka makes his MLB debut tonight. Dude has a nasty splitter.

This sucks for him, unfortunately things like this are on the rise. The pitching motion isn't natural to begin with and puts a lot of strain on the arm, and throwing a breaking ball just speeds up the process of a major injury. -

So about 9-12 months recovery. His UCL was probably getting weaker gradually, it's usually not a sudden tear. -
That's a pretty nice offer list.

Only the third game of the year and already sitting Ellsbury and McCann and Johnson to start a washed up Ichiro and a career minor leaguer in Solarte. Yep, Girardi is at it already. EDIT: Oh, and a rapidly declining Mark Teixiera is batting cleanup even with a surgically repaired wrist. Yeah, this should be fun.

Maybe he thinks it's the same type of deal as University of Oklahoma being OU. -

Where is the University of Indiana? -
Someone young like Mike Trout and it wouldn't be so bad, but he's only 22 right now and he's a better overall player than Cabrera is. Cabrera is a better hitter, but in terms of overall player (fielding, hitting, speed) Trout is better. Giving a contract like that to a 22 year old is completely different than giving one to a player almost 31. Give a 31 year old a contract like that and you are going to wish you hadn't.
-
He'll be 31 soon, make no mistake that contract absolutely will be an albatross. It's never a good idea to give a contract like that to a player on the wrong side of 30.

The last opening day of Jeet's career, and we lose to the friggin' Astros thanks to a Sabathia stinker and making Scott Feldman look like an ace. I'm waiting for someone to say "April Fools!" or else someone has a very very cruel sense of humor.

#IUWBB @ SDSU - 2014 WNIT Elite 8
JSHoosier replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Women's Basketball
They have some young talent to build with going forward. Brooks, Agler, Gassion being joined by Buss and Muensterman next year and I'd really like to add Jackie Young out of Princeton too. Need players down low, but there is some talent here. -

I will say Agler and Buss will be one good looking backcourt. -

Gassion hits a 3 and cuts it to 5. Every time we get some momentum going they answer, every friggin' time. Hard to come back when that happens. -

The ref waved off the basket because of the crowd reaction. Who is this? TV Ted?
