OK, you guys finally dragged me in to this lol.
Comparing across generations is always dicey. But Bird had the highest bb IQ I've ever seen. Given the advanced training of today, I think he'd be just as good if not better than Dirk. And as a Laker fan, I hated Bird when he played. But the dude did things on a court that a slow, unathletic guy had no business doing.
I was 23 and fresh out of school. Road tripped to NOLA. Greatest. Weekend. Ever.
I had so much brain damage after that bender, large sections of my brain were closed to future function. Totally worth it.
How far in advance could he have possibly planned this family get away? Our season ended only 36 hours earlier. Was Joani on price-line while GaTech was kicking our butts.
I think Tom takes a year off. He should. He tried hard, I'll give him that. He can get a part-time gig as a studio analyst and look at the landscape next March. He'll land on his feet somewhere. Worse coaches than him have resurfaced. Hope he finds a good fit at a place where hoops isn't a religion. Fisher is retiring soon, San Diego St would be a great gig for him.
Been pumping Archie for two years, so I guess you could count me in the "good hire" camp.
Followed Dayton religiously for better part of four seasons now. Dude can coach. He makes adjustments, learns from his mistakes, and understands the game. I don't think recruiting will be an issue, he's been around high level college ball for a while and is still young. He's recruited, and landed, 5 stars as a lead recruiter at Arizona.
When you make your list of what you want in a IU coach, and start at the bottom, he just checks boxes off as you work your way up the list. The only one left is high level success at a high major. Opportunity, meet preparation.
Welcome to IU Coach Miller!
Go Hoosiers!
Dumbfounded only in repect to his name not being mentioned. Bigger names had been thrown out but never got to the level of hysteria we just witnessed with BD . Crean was received fairly well, but Wade was a lot fresher in peoples minds back then.
Archie is better than Crean, we can disagree as to what degree.
But Archie, at 38, is a student of the game. In 12 years he'll be exponentially better than Crean. The only question is how quickly he navigates that learning curve.
And Sampson was supported by a LARGE segment of the fan base, right up until the notice of allegations. Even then, quite a few people wanted him to stay.
