What a freaking time right now. All those horrible years hoping and praying just to win enough games to make a bowl game…… to this. Couldn’t be more proud and excited for this program.

I like the makeup of this roster. A lot of shooting, a lot of heart, and a lot of hustle.

I like that he was on the all-freshman team in his conference. If he comes, he would have 3 years eligibility left and wouldn’t be counted on much, allowing him time to grow and get ready for the following season. Anyone hearing anything about any centers? Been fairly quiet from what I can tell.

Liking the way this roster is coming together. Coach is targeting offense, heart, and hustle. Love that. Seems like we have 4 starters for sure in Bailey, Devries, Wilkerson, and Conerway. I’m thinking Bailey is our starting 5, but will be curious how it shakes out. Regardless, excited for this fresh start and new coaching philosophy!

Did we finally get over the hump?

So anyone hearing anything with the recent recruits on campus or potentially visiting? I hope we can grab Leo Curtis, think it would be good to sprinkle in some high school recruits who can play some their 1st year, then step into more of a role next year.

Now you I may trade blows with ;) You’re not wrong. Regardless, I agree with I don’t think it will be an issue either. I think we will safely be in the tournament, but it’s always tricky building a roster from scratch. It works with good coaching (thankfully we have that now lol), but you can’t help if it goes badly sometimes. Like with what MJ said, getting paid before playing sets a lazy work ethic. I don’t think this will be an issue, but what if some of the kids we get just grab the bag and don’t put in the effort? I just think Coach deserves some patience and grace this year if things don’t go as planned.

All good brother, guess I won’t trade blows with ya :) lol. It’s all good to disagree with one another. I think it’s important to make the tourney, but not necessary. Give me a coach who’s busting his butt recruiting and developing, laying a great foundation setting up this program for future success.

I think there is a good shot at it, but I think it depends on perception. IU hasn’t been a good team for 8-9 years, and if IU has a good season and there was growth, then why should this place be toxic? IU fans gave patience to Woody and and Miller (or at least they should have), so why can’t fans give Coach Devries patience? We all want the same thing, but part of the fan base sees everything as a negative unless we have a top recruiting class and top team. Coach Devries built a tournament level team without two of his top players, and turned Drake around when it was a historically terrible program. I understand being hesitant and not a fan of the hire, but I guess I don’t get why people won’t give Coach Devries rope to get things going?! Woodson was not a good coach, but still landed really good recruits. So if we miss the tournament why is it doom and gloom? I don’t mean to go in circles, I just see things differently which is all good. We all want to win, so as long as we get there with Coach Devries then it will all be good.

Said it perfectly! Coach is building a team to compete, not just collect talent. He knows how to put together a team, and has been successful at doing so. Little resources/talent at Drake and lost 2 of his top players at WV, and still had success. I’m not saying the 1st year will be perfect, and I’m on record saying a tournament birth isn’t necessary in year 1. However, I think coach is doing a good job navigating a lot of stuff. A mess of things from the past 8+ years, and he was only at WV one year, didn’t have a ton of time building relationships with recruits and teams. A turnaround might take a him a little time, and coach deserves our patience!

I’m thinking we will start Bailey at the 5, but it’s hard to say. I don’t think it’s necessary that we need a starting bouncy center, but we will see. It does seem Bailey gives some flexibility, but would it be worth the risk to play Devries at the 3 and Bailey at the 4 against athletic teams? One thing I am looking forward to is Coach knows how to coach both sides of the ball, so regardless I’m excited for this team!

Might be a good foundational piece out of the high school ranks. Get some minutes behind Bailey, then hopefully be ready to start as a Sophomore.

Outside of a portal big, I would like to see Coach try to get some good high school talent. Might be a little late for that, but hope to see more high school recruiting than portal in the future. Coach mentioned that in his presser to do portal now then high school later, which is totally fine and agree with. Might take time to mend some of those high school/aau bridges. Regardless, love what the staff is doing right now!
