We went into MSG, and dominated unlike many thought we could.  That score showed an 18 point victory, but it felt much bigger.  IU was in complete control throughout.  The kids were on display for the world to see.  Troy had the game of his young college life at MSG.  The kids dictated the pace, controlled the boards, and hit their FTs.  End result is we all go to bed happy Hoosiers.  Jeremy did not have a good game, but as good of a game as Noah Vonleh had, his double-double streak ended one rebound shy.

Our current version of the Hurryin Hoosiers out-rebounded the Huskies 47-27.  You read that correctly.  That was as dominant as we will be all year on the glass.  With 8 minutes to go, Noah heard the collective voice of Hoosier fans urging for that last rebound.  It wasn't meant to be tonight. As a team we were all over the glass.  Also encouraging was how we performed at the line.  As a team we went 31-36.  If we can stay in that 75% range with how much we get to the line, we will be very tough to beat.  One wrinkle of Tom Crean's offense we hadn't seen as much is the backcuts.  They were there all game and we took advantage of a defense who over-rotated all night.

How about those kids, huh?  Troy Williams was a beast tonight with 22 points and 6 boards.  Yogi chipped in his normal 20 points, but had 7 assists in this one.  Noah added 18 points and 9 lonely boards.  Will was solid with 16 points / 4 boards / 3 assists.  On the flip side, Jeremy was exceptionally bad in the first half.  He had half of the team's turnovers in the half.  It was a night to forget as well for Hanner.  Stan and Devin offered solid minutes off the bench.  Luke and Evan were fairly solid as well.  Back to Jeremy and Hanner though.  Yes they had rough games.  That doesn't mean they can't play.  We are a young team, and hopefully everyone understands the importance of depth.  When a kid has a bad game, it doesn't mean they should get kicked off the team or benched. We will very possibly need that kid to carry us in some way the next game.  Lets just hope these kids have shorter memory than some of us.

Great game in a tough environment for a young group of kids.  It could have been intimidating, but these kids came out hot, and never really let up.  They had an intensity that was easy to get behind.  As with most games we will witness this year, there were good things, as well as bad.  They are very young.  They are also very good.  We get a real quality measuring stick up next.  Hoo's up for UConn?

Not bad timing on Coach's part considering ESPN2 put on one awesome "Cream and Crimson" recruiting seminar for us last night. .  If I were a Washington fan I would have had to mute that broadcast at about 6 minutes into the game and prayed I was located where I could pick up a Washington Huskies radio broadcast.  Got to love the way the went on about Noah, Troy and the Freshman Class!

I don't like guys bashing the kids at all. I might say something like he's struggling, etc. but I'm not going to scream at the computer that he's a worthless sob and should never see the floor again kind of stuff. That's just childish and uncalled for in my opinion.

Below is KenPom's current rankings (pulled a few mins ago).

    Chicago St - 310
    LIU-B - 201
    Samford - 301
    Stony Brook - 79
    Washington - 129

    IU - 29
    UCONN - 13

I'm certainly not saying we'll lose this game because KenPom has UConn at a higher rating...but I will say things won't come as easily as the games in the past (I consider the LIU-B game a fluke of sorts).

This is our first true test IMO.

Jeremy struggled last night, we've seen it before.  He has a world of potential, just seems to be out of control much of the time. Some kids just don't put it together as quick as others. I'm sure he's just as frustrated as everyone else is. It just takes time, patience, and confidence on his part. He'll get there.

Kansas assistant Jerrance Howard will contact JaQuan Lyle Thursday at Huntington Prep, sources told SNY.tv. It’s possible the 6-foot-5 Lyle could visit Kansas sometime over the Christmas break.

Now that Kansas is out of the Tyus Jones Sweepstakes, they are re-focusing on Lyle, who is expected to sign in the spring. Kansas feels it needs a big-body combo guard to complete its recruiting class, giving them a potential top-five class to go along with Findlay Prep wing Kelly Oubreand Chicago Curie power forward Cliff Alexander.

Lyle and Alexander talked about a possible package deal, and it appears that could still happen with the Jayhawks.

Oregon and West Virginia also watched Lyle last weekend in Kentucky.

First, and most important, I am hopeful everyone made it through the day in one piece.  I missed part of the first half with no power, so this will be choppy for sure.  I didn't need 40 minutes of evidence to see Noah Vonleh is an absolute beast.  There was one play in particular that comes to mind on how great this kid is.  On a missed free throw, they threw two bodies on him to block out.  He didn't seem to fight for the board and Crean gave him an earful.  My lip reading isn't the greatest, but it was easy to see he told him to fight.  The rest of the night he put on a performance.  In between him and Yogi, it was a fun night against a tougher opponent.

Not all was great however.  From the line, we not good at all.  We are still at a point where the sample size is too small, but this team just is not going to be a team we are going to feel comfortable watching at the line all year.  Tonight, they went 30-49.  Also, turnovers seem a little high by first glance with 17.

Back to the good (because it is much more fun), we out rebounded a team by 15 who was besting their opponents by 10 a game.  Things that won't show up in the stat sheet is how different it is watching an over athletic team rotate defensively from one year to the next.  This team closes defensively in a way we haven't seen for a while.  How impressed are all of you with Noah Vonleh's hands?  That kid does not drop anything that comes in his area.

Yogi and Noah were easily the talk of the game tonight.  Yogi had 24 points, 6 assists (2 TO's), and 5 rebounds.  Hell of a game for the little guy.  He seemed to have only one stretch where he was just exclusively looking for his shot instead of looking for the right play.  On this team, more than not, he will be the best option.  It is just a higher percentage when he gets into the lane and dishes like he did early in the game.  Noah Vonleh who is no doubt sky-rocketing his draft stock with another impressive double-double of 18 and 15.  Other than that, I thought Evan (12 pts), Jeremy (10 pts), Troy (8 pts, 6 rebounds), and Will (9 pts), had solid games.  Hanner and Devin gave their usual solid contribution on both ends.

All in all it was a good game in what will probably be our toughest home game before conference.  I was almost certain Noah would be a 2 year player heading in to this year.  Not really, because of his skill level, but because how stacked this draft would be.  He is no doubt in that top 5 ish Freshman with his play.  Dude has been killing it.  That will be another discussion for another day.  We have things to take to the drawing board, but a lot to like heading into arguably our toughest week of basketball until conference.  We will have tougher games for sure, but this will give our kids an idea of what college basketball is really about.
