A little bored today with time to kill and figured I would check up on the IU signees and future recruits and figured I would share my findings. Remember I’m not a scout or anything like that but I’ve seen a lot of basketball. Please take these findings and opinions with a grain of salt.

  • CLASS OF 2013
    • Noah Vonleh-6’8” 220lbs, 8th in the ESPN 100 and the #3 PF in the class. Vonleh was recently named to the McDonalds All-American East squad as well as being named to the Team USA at the Hoops Summit in Portland, Oregon. Been said to be a SF in a PF body. Kid can handle the ball and can score inside or out. Will be fun to watch in the McDonalds game. Has potential to be in the starting 5 right away.
    • Troy Williams- 6’7” 190lbs, 42nd overall and the #10SF in 2013. Over his last 5 games Williams is averaging 7.8pts, 3.4assists, 5.8rebs. While shooting 12-19 from the line, 24-51 from the floor and averaging 20.2 minutes.  Williams is a long and very athletic SF, has no trouble playing at the rim on both ends of the floor. From what I’ve seen he needs to work on his jump-shot. Should be a solid player off the bench.
    • Luke Fischer- 6’9” 200lbs, 67th overall and the #7 Center in the 2013 class. Fischer had 32 of his team’s 99 points in their latest win. This kid could also come in and start right away, especially if Zeller leaves(which I don’t think he will). He is a slightly smaller version of Cody. He runs the floor really well, great vision from the post to pass. It seems like he plays a little bigger than 6’9”, really strong at the rim and can finish with contact at the current level. In 4 years he will be a STUD.
    • Stan Robinson-6’4” 175lbs, 98th overall and the #20 SF in 2013. I’ve seen on twitter where Robinson will be playing in the Kentucky Derby Festival Classic basketball game April 19th at Freedom Hall in Louisville. I’m having trouble finding current stats on Robinson but Findlay Prep recently played on ESPNU and Robinson looked virtually non-existent. Now I’ve seen where he has had some solid number games but he was just out of sync on the TV game. Hope he can come in and help out but I’m not sure he’ll see much playing time.
    • Devin Davis- 6’6” 200lbs, #42SF. Looks to be pretty athletic, I like him to come in and fill the void left by Derek Elston. If Davis will buy into a role like Dennis Rodman he will be a great asset to the Hoosiers. Play Defense and REBOUND. Haven’t seen him play yet this year buy looked solid as a Jr last year and let’s not forget he has a coach at Warren Central that knows a thing or two about playing in the candy stripes.
    • Collin Hartman-6’5” 200lbs, #49 SF. Kid is a scorer, can spot up or create off the dribble. He has passed the eye test a couple times this year. Stepped up and played a MONSTER game against LaPorte Lalumiere giving Laporte just their 3rd loss of the year. I see him being a very big addition to the Hoosier bench next season and having a chance to start beginning his Sophomore year.
  • CLASS OF 2014
    • James Blackmon Jr(Commited)-6’2” 175lbs,  47th Overall in class of 2014. 1st off the 47th overall will do nothing but go up in his Senior year. The ranking fell in the offseason due to the knee injury he suffered at the IU recruit classic in Indy in Feb. of last year on a MONSTER block. He has come back from the injury better than ever. I’ve watched him twice this year and the game just comes naturally to him. He is scoring at will and hasn’t forced many (if any) shots. He will be one to watch over his Senior season and be a top contender for Indiana Mr. Basketball.
    • JaQuan Lyle-(Interest)6’4” 185lbs 16th overall in 2014. Have yet to see him play but continue to hear and read great things from him. Went like 6 or 7 straight games with triple doubles earlier in the year. The only thing that worries my about him is I’ve also heard and read from many sources that he has quite the attitude. I’m sure Crean and the staff could get rid of the attitude and turn him into the 1st Team B1G he could be but it’s a concern. Also one to keep an eye on in 2013-14 to contend for Mr. Basketball in the Hoosier state.
    • Trevon Bluiett-(Interest) 6’5” 205lbs 45th overall in 2014. Listed as a SF with offers from a lot of the major players in MCBB Bluiett has led Park Tudor to one of the best teams in the state, let alone in the 2A division. If things go right we could see Bluiett and Blackmon battling it out for a 2A state crown and that would be one heck of a matchup. Bluiett, along with Blackmon and Lyle will be a player for the Mr. Basketball Crown.

I purposefully left Trey Lyles off of this list. The offer at IU is still on the table as far as I know. After the de-commitment I know he wasn’t happy with IU for not being at open gyms and such. I really feel like he could still end up in BTOWN though. The kid is a really good player and could help out a ton. I think with what’s happening at UK this year it maybe has opened his eyes that last year was a flash in the pan and will not happen year in and year out. Then again, maybe he looks at it like, “man, if I were there they’d be great.” So we’ll just have to wait and see what happens with him.

Hope this wasn’t too bad. And thanks to everyone involved with the site, keep doing what you’re doing. The site is GREAT.

Trey Lyles has posted on his twitter account in the last week or so his final 6 and no IU.

My opinion/thought is that his dad got in his ear about KY and Crean doesn't have the interest or time to deal with a parent who interferes.  While they are kids to some extent, he needs young men who can make a decision for themselves and stand by it. I also believe there is compensation being discussed and Crean wants no part of that nonsense either.

Great breakdown of the classes.  I'm really excited/sad for this next group of guys to come in.  This next group signifies a complete changing of the guard if you will.  No more Jordy, Cwat, Elston, Creek (Zeller, Oladipo).  I love this team so much it's not even funny.  Will be sad to see them go.  All that being said,  this next group appears to be the real deal.  Hopefully they get buckled down and ready to work!
