(2026) - Latrell Allmond

It’s for Manny Green. Allmond seems to be between Ok St and Maryland. Edit: The Allmond being between Ok St and Md is according to Trilly. -

I did not even realize there was no offer! I just assumed because of the OV and the post about it being between Xavier, Cal, and IU. Never mind! -

Didn’t X’s and Joe’s just do an episode on this? I can’t remember the exact but I’m pretty sure the punchline is all national champs for the past 10-15 years have WAY more top 80 players (as in start 5 plus first off the bench) than the top Big 10 teams do (typically around 4). -

Just noticed there’s no (2026) Vaughn Karvala thread. Should there be one? -

I don’t know…Mgbako is very good but was in an awful system for him. You can read a bunch of stuff from A&M insiders and NBA guys from last spring bewildered by how he was used at IU under Woody. He will have a big season. -

I find the rumors and Trilly stuff fun to follow but it can be difficult to take too seriously. For one, I’m skeptical how much he actually knows as fact versus what’s just talk from the agent side acting on behalf of the client and trying to max their own cut. Now that there’s a media side to Trilly through Basket Under Review—which I do like reading and listening to their podcasts—he is more of an access person and I don’t think would betray sources (like coaches and high level program people) by burning them on the Discord as that would jeopardize the media side. The other part is this: Let’s say Trilly is correct on all his statements. Where’s his gif? Where are any Crystal Balls? His threads make it sound like IU is seriously outmatched across the board with MSU having Taylor in the bag, Allmond to Md, and Thompson to OSU. Yet, there’s not a single logged prediction for any of these let alone by him. His response when people ask is that he’ll wait likely til the night before or a few hours ahead of announcement…by which point everyone knows anyways! My last piece on the Trilly stuff is let’s say that IU is getting outbid but it is because they have a max price in mind for HS players. Then I’m totally unconcerned about DDV not overpaying T35 guys in a weak class. Better bang for the buck in the portal this year and focusing on 2027 HS targets where we are in on the ground floor. Of course people can disagree with the strategy and prioritization, but I don’t think it signals weakness or underlining problems in the new staff. -

I feel like that's very similar to the Allmond situation as well - likes IU a ton but Maryland (which he has not yet even visited) is coming in at the last minute with big $$$ -

Per his IG story a couple hours ago it will be at 10am from his HS gym in Virginia EDIT: He is also now following Jalen Cannady the coach in charge of video analysis and player development. It’s most likely nothing but I like to think he put together compelling film for both AT and LA about how they can develop and play together. Again, probably nothing, but fun to note. -

With all the crazy numbers being thrown around before anything has been cleared by NIL Go, I wonder what happens when some guys find out they committed to place that isn't allowed to just write a check. This article suggests its known its happening and with the NCAA revealing its tip line (I think more than anything as a signal that it's somewhat serious?) today, there could be i) chaos in the coming months as NIL offers are rejected and ii) programs and collectives that skirt the rules. This is just me being catty but it makes me think there's at least a coach or two out there we can think of with a scandal incoming (ahem...WW and KS...) -

Yesterday during the day I was a bit disheartened about what feels like some burgeoning recruiting whiffs. But as the day went on I feel like I’ve changed perspectives a bit. Increasingly it seems the negative outlook on IU on some 2026 targets is driven by outlandish NIL offers. How outlandish? Rumors of 1.5-3M for recruits ranked in the 30-50 range in a 2026 class that is overall considered to be one of the weakest in a while. I don’t think it’s that IU doesn’t have the funds to match, it’s do we really want to spend that much on 17 year olds without a day of high major experience and who are not even at the top of their class? It’s also important to remember that while it won’t be full rebuild mode next offseason like it was this offseason, we will have a ton of roster slots open as our transfers from this year run out of eligibility. Does it make sense to blow through the budget this early when we will still need to fill out the roster (including starters!)? Finally, some of this has to do with preferences of the type of team we’d like to see constructed. I think a lot of us who follow HS recruiting like the idea of developing players and keeping them in the program for multiple years which has been missing from the program in quite a while. In a way, these agents and recruits that are demanding Cooper Flagg money for being top 30-40 in a weak class are one-on-dones of another type. They are not good enough to go pro but will only demand more money in a second year and hit the portal to the highest bidder again. If the coaching staff have a number in mind that makes sense and the recruit is motivated by liking the style of play and what IU offers (and still make a ton of money) then great. But if not, I think it does make sense to save much of the budget for proven players with high major experience in the portal and focus HS recruiting for the 2027 class where the new staff has been in on the process the full way. -

Great point. The assumptions about NIL are also a bit tricky. I think a lot of people’s priors is that it’s a “blue blood” versus not type of thing and it’s not. It’s about which places have super super wealthy individuals who “consume” collegiate athletics by playing GM. Schools that dominate NIL are schools like SMU, Texas Tech, Miami, Oregon, etc. My point is that these are not the schools we’re (potentially) losing some of these targets to nor is it clear what is meant by top 5 versus top 15 NIL or the extent to which the margin matters when accounting for facilities, coaching, development, pro prospects, media exposure, etc. -

I am just going to run down what I've gathered from the following: Maryland Terps media like Inside Black and Gold, MSU media sources (Justin Thind and Jason Killop), and, yes, some Trilly so take it for what it's worth: Allmond: Maryland has been trying to get LA on campus, but were not getting much interest from his side. It sounds like a MASSIVE NIL offer was put on the table from Maryland as a last attempt and this is what prompted an upcoming visit, though this visit has not been super widely reported/circulated. There seems to be some skepticism that it will 100% happen and if it does not, then there may be indications where he is headed by the end of the week. Taylor: MSU sources are sort of all over the map here in trying to flex on IU but the facts not quite matching their intended story. They want to say that they lead IU because relationships matter more than money to Taylor and that Izzo has a longstanding relationship with ET and his parents. However, they seemed to also say that MSU has a larger NIL offer out than IU does for him and that makes them the clear leader. Honestly, this Izzo recruiting cycle reminds me of what Self is doing and makes me wonder if both are milking their respective donors for putting together one last 5-star studded recruiting class for a last hurrah--or last couple. Karvala: Assumption seems to be that there's some ground to make up on Xavier. This should be obvious given he was not really on our radar until this week. I do think the fact that he already had Xavier and Syracuse, dropped Syracuse, and has visits to IU and Cal scheduled for the upcoming several weeks means his Xavier visit is more and more in the past and there's opportunity to cultivate this relationship a bit and he's not sold. If he has a west coast preference, that may keep Cal in the game but as an ACC follower through my divided loyalties my understanding is Cal is a bit of dumpster fire. Thompson: Crickets! Really not much here even from the OSU side...which maybe a no news is good news? Of course, that would also hold for OSU as well. -

The portion of the interview that felt different was about the long relationship with Izzo and between Izzo and his parents, but you may be right that that’s just part of the “nice visit” routine
