I think we have plenty of wings between who we picked up in the portal, Sisley, and the freshmen. A backup C is what I’d like to see. Even if it’s a developmental guy used for practice. I don’t see us going more than 8-9 deep at most and I think one of the freshmen will contribute, likely Moody.

Rumor was he was told he wouldn’t be the starter so he went into the portal.

Meanwhile, 4 Big Ten schools haven’t landed a portal player yet. Iowa, Michigan St, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

I think that’s going to be Sisley.

I’d assume Harris is coming here to start and we need him to step up for sure. Maybe be a 9/10 point a game guy that’s over 40% from 3. I think adding Sherrell is the final piece to our starting 5. Which is a starting 5 good enough to compete with the top of the conference opponents. I agree on the depth argument, and I think we will see a drop off unless the freshmen are ready to go. But outside of Moody, I think they need to add strength before they contribute.

Adding Sherrill will give us a starting 5 that is top 25. Id expect them to be in that 15-25 range, even if they don’t start the season ranked. The ceiling could be higher if a player like Harris breaks out in a starting role.

I get what you’re saying but IU is still a basketball school. The big donors have that basketball passion. So I think it’s easier to get them to pony up for some NIL to meet the market if needed. Football needed to prove it because the passion wasn’t there to begin with. Also, people say this year sucked. But like I said elsewhere, DeVries had half the talent Woody got his final year and had similar results. Give him the same backing Woody got and watch out. That’s the sales pitch I’m sending the donors. Also Ryan Carr has connections to the Simon family because of his years at the Pacers. Their name is on the basketball arena. I’m sure they will help their guy out.

Yeah for sure. They want 3 impact guys too. Better have more funds. Listened to the hysterics podcast where they interviewed Rabby last weekend. Eric seemed to believe that the money would be there if needed. Basically IU needed to be budget minded but if there was a bidding war for a key player the money would be available. Which is why I think we lead for Sherrill. It won’t be for every recruit but for the impact guys he made it sound like it would be.

You don’t mess around a low ball your top priority at the biggest position of need. If they have a number they are willing to go then go there. Close the deal. Don’t fall on your face at the finish line and allow someone to slide in there. Houston was rumored to offer 3.25 and he turned it down because we rumored to offer more. We don’t then rescind that offer and go lower bc the competition couldn’t match. Thats a great way to sour the relationship and burn the deal all together.

That is a definite upgrade on athleticism 1-3. A drop in the deepball at the 2, but an increase in scoring from the 1 and 3. It’s a good start and would love to add some splashes to those 3.

Well hopefully DeVries can unlock that elite shooting at the Big Ten level.
