Kid is playing much better than that 3 star ranking. What’s the level of competition he is playing against? I haven’t been keeping up on high school recruiting as much as I used to.

Hopefully some serious lessons were learned. I lm a Michigan football fan and get to listen to a lot of crossover talk with their basketball program. Dusty May even said this offseason that he underestimated size/physicality that would be needed to be successful. Hopefully DeVries learns the same lesson and adjusts. I think he can be a good fit here, but he will need to make some changes for sure.

If we are only going to play 7-8 guys then that’s where the NIL money needs to go and then just fill roster spots with some jag’s.

Where I think the staff made an error was focusing on mid major portal transfers. You can get a couple of those guys but you still need high D1 athletes to compete.

He will see 3 years imo. Need to find that balance of high school prospects and portal vets.

There are only 5 players on this team I trust or see the potential in. Wilkerson, DeVries, Conerway, Dorn, and Sisley.

Yup. Which is why I said offseason.

He had an entire roster to fill, so I’m giving him a pass for the roster flaws this time. I also am making an assumption that this year was about showing recruits the style of play we want to play. Which should make it easier next year. Probably will have to over spend on a big though.

The lack of size and athleticism is an issue. Hopefully it’s fixed in the offseason.

He isn’t a high major player. At best he is a bench player. This team has major flaws and that’s ok, it’s year 1. Lacks depth, lacks athleticism, lacks size. They are scrappy. I like coach and his style of play, but he needs an injection of roster improvement in the offseason.

He also has a Michigan #1 and Michigan even thinks their top portal guy will never play there. He will end up going pro over actually playing at Michigan. So they will drop. The rest of his list I can make a case of IU actually being a better roster than each. Likely? No. But IU will be top half of the conference and make the face without a bubble. Which is all I care about for next year. I believe we have a top 25 roster when healthy.

Could be close. 2 mil each for DeVries and Wilkerson, that’s 4 mil. Than $500,000 each for 10 guys and that’s $5 mil. Add together for $9 mil. Seems to me more than likely we are at $10 mil or well over it for a 13 man roster, once its complete. I still believe you are a star gazer and want buzz. I want wins. Both would be great but that wasn’t ever going to happen unless we spent like $20 mil and just poached from every top team.

Wait until the players become employees. They exclude people from being eligible to work bc of “eligibility”, I smell lawsuit. We will have 30 year olds playing for IU for a decade. True minor league at that point.

Who is their starting 5? Last I looked and it’s been weeks ago, they didn’t even have a starting 5.

Fed squared and then get a freshman to help balance the classes a bit. But if one isn’t available that fits then a younger transfer with some years left, like Harris.

Yup they are going to make enough money that they can have whatever fun they want. It’s definitely business.

I mean do we want to promote the party lifestyle as a key recruiting tactic? We want grinders not party animals. I’m sure they will all have their fun but let’s not make it a key selling point. Sell basketball first.
