  1. It’s been elite. And a huge reason is because Jordan Bohannon and Tony Perkins had elite TO rates spanning the last 5-6 seasons. When you have a PG who can run your stuff without turning the ball over, it typically makes for a much more efficient offense. Not really a novel concept. Do I think Tony Perkins averages 15 a game here next year? Probably not. Doesn’t need to either. But 11-12 ppg seems appropriate along with a good A/TO ratio.
  2. That’s not how it works lol. Cupps and XJ’s TO rate last season were 22 and 24 percent respectively. That’s terrible. Throw in Galloway at 18% who handled the ball a lot and it’s a major reason why IU’s offensive efficiency was so bad. Perkins TO rate for both his Jr and Sr seasons was 12% which is beyond elite. It’s a huge reason why Iowa finished 4th and 15th in offensive efficiency per KenPom with Perkins as its starting PG.
  3. A steady floor general who doesn’t turn the ball over is the perfect start….
  4. Which even furthers the need for a PG who is a strong on-ball defender. Perkins was a plus defender on a bad defensive team. Guys like Malik Mack and Leland Walker were bad defenders in bad conferences. Perkins had excellent TO rate which is essential playing in Woodson’s system.
  5. Perkins has better “stats” than Walker playing in a much tougher conference.
  6. Got some pretty decent Easter intel on Perkins. Was told if it were up to mom, he’d be a Hoosier already. Wants him close to home and was sick of the back and forth drive from Iowa City. UCLA I was told is going to be the stiffest competition. Woodson on him harder than any other player they’re targeting.
  7. If the worst defensive player on the floor is still net 10, you’re probably going undefeated. Just saying.
  8. Watched a few Wash St games this year (don’t ask me why). Kid was all business. Doesn’t wow you with any flashiness or elite athleticism, but he’s a playmaker who gets the job done. He actually redshirted during the 21-22 season before being diagnosed with cancer and then medical redshirted in 22-23 so he’s going to be 24-25 by the time his eligibility is up. I think he’s from Columbia SC originally.
  9. Why can’t you add Perkins and a shooter? And another shooter after that? There’s 7, possibly 8 open scholarships that need filled. IU needs a PG. Perkins was 2nd team All-B10 last year. What are we even doing?
  10. I wouldn’t think so unless he shoots the ball a lot better than expected. I love the idea of Tucker joining the team but wouldn’t be thrilled if he’s promised ~30mpg.
  11. To each their own. I’d think you’d have to be mental to pass on a quality starting P5 PG. In a perfect world you get both.
  12. Mack is a slightly better shooter in a lower conference (which doesn’t always translate) and is 6 foot. How is Perkins not a playmaker? 15 ppg in the B10 with a 2.5:1 A/TO ratio isn’t a playmaker? I get it, he’s not a knockdown 3 point shooter, but neither is Mack. IU needs multiple guards and not just guards who can shoot, but guards who can score.
  13. I don’t understand this take at all. A two-way guard who can score with major experience in this conference. Again, these guys don’t grow on trees.
  14. Get both and either play Galloway as a 3rd guard or super sub off the bench? Huge proponent of multiple ball handlers on the floor at all times.
  15. That’s 100% where I’m at. If he loses he’s gone, and if he wins and does well…so be it. Nearly a win-win all around, happy either way.
  16. If the NIL budget is in fact $6 million we should be in pretty good shape and possibly a reason why IU hasn't overpaid for anyone just yet. Iowa boards are suggesting that Tony Perkings is looking for around $300k. $300-400k for a multi-year starting P5 who averaged double-figures and plays defense seems like a bargain. These players jumping in the portal who all think they are getting a million dollars are more than likely going to be in for a rude awakening. There just isn't a market that supports those kinds of figures.
  17. Or he's doing what I hope he's doing and playing Reneau and MM at their natural positions and getting more athletic out on the perimeter.
  18. Lawrence KS native. He might be headed home, literally.
  19. Still need to think about defensive capabilities. I know shooters, shooters, and more shooters is the portal wish list, but we still need to think about the other side of the ball as well. We were just as bad defensively last year, especially guarding the perimeter.
  20. As opposed to this year when playing the 4? Dude had 4+ fouls in something like 9 out of the last 10 games. Perhaps guarding quicker, more agile players that play out to the perimeter isn’t his game?
  21. I would be floored if someone from the actual staff was posting on an anonymous message board. Then again it may be par for the course with this bunch, but I highly, highly doubt Jordan Hulls is wasting his time with us common folk.
  22. Reneau MM Galloway Perkins high level 1/2 guard who can shoot lights out is a lineup I can live with. That’s 3 ball handlers and a stretch 4 who can space the floor. Galloway and Perkins can guard the perimeter and rebound well for their position. Bring in Hickman off the bench who can spell Galloway and add a defensive 5 (I like Ousmane from Xavier) and that isn’t a bad rotation at all.
  23. I get the sentiment on Perkins, but strictly looking at him from an individual standpoint, he’s a multi-year double figure scoring in a major conference who is a plus two way player. Those don’t grow on trees.
