My post was in reference to Ben McCollum who was the “big coach” in this years cycle. McCollum took less money to go to a program where he could build his team rather than taking a job with delusional fan expectations. But yes, you are right, no “big” or established coach is going to leave their current gig for Indiana. If this is universally accepted, I’m not sure why we are shouting for a year 1 guy to be fired less than 20 games in.
-
Tucker was extremely efficient last year and had a monster showing in the Battle of Atlantis. He isn’t a shell of himself this year.
-
You keep saying it's BS yet no big coach wants to touch the IU job with a 10 foot pole? Why is that? Why take $6 million at IU and be out in 3 years when I can go coach at Iowa for $4 million a year and build my program as I please and turn it into a 15-20 year career?
-
A complete reset of the basketball program is probably in the best interest long term. Been advocating that now for a few seasons.
-
Most understand that wanting to run off a coach every one or two years isn't any kind of recipe in finding sustained success. Doesn't matter how much money you spend if you're constantly turning over your staff, roster, etc....there is literally no culture to foster in that scenario.
-
And this is why this cycle we're in is no longer a cycle...
-
It's a chicken and an a egg scenario. DeVries knows and understands the pressure and expectations of this job. DeVries went with an experience-laden roster to try and win out of the gate. No problem with that, as the portal allows for it. But the roster was constructed horribly and that can be chalked up to a myriad of reasons. The practical medium would have been to recruit a mixture of upperclassmen and underclassmen that you could develop along the way. Not sure the delusions of this fanbase would allow for any kind of trial and error though. What I do know is that he needs to absolute kill it in the portal this year or he's a dead man walking before the season starts. Just how things are around here.
-
I think the NIL money was more than adequate. How it was allocated and roster construction far bigger issue. A front court that has no size, length, or athleticism is a recipe for disaster.
-
Or maybe IU was never their "dream job" to begin with and they either landed at better programs or were at better programs to begin with.
-
A dream job is a dream job lol. It's funny how so many people claim IU is the dream job of Stevens, Pearl, Drew, and Dusty and yet none of them actually want to coach at Indiana when push comes to shove. Amazing how that works.
-
Woody deserved a 4th year. It didn't work out. If IU was May's dream job, he'd be here today. He's not.
-
IU is an after thought to A+ coaches these days...if the last 25 years weren't evident enough.
-
BW is a job hopper who likes to build programs up but has a clear ceiling. He won't be at Maryland long, whether by choice or not. Brad Brownell is 100-34 on his last 3.5 years winning at a 75% clip despite being a career .600 coach. He clearly understands the portal, they lost everyone from a 28 win team last year and it looks like they haven't missed a beat.
-
I think the Jimmy's and Joe's have really affected the X's and O's. We're a chuck and prayer team because we literally have zero inside presence or a post to play through.
-
Brad Brownell would have done better here than most people think. He's really turned a corner in his career in the portal era. But yes, that's likely the type of candidate IU is relegated to these days.
-
Stephon Payne was arguably our biggest miss. Ended up at Seton Hall of all places and they are having a decent year and he was interested in IU. Bailey is terrible and I think most people saw his physical limitations from a mile away except for one poster.
-
McCollum didn't want IU. That was pretty evident.
-
Cool. Gillespie was a drunk who was fired for misconduct. It also helped that he didn't have an official contract with UK or a $20 million buyout attached to his name. UNC fired Doherty because they had Roy Williams on line 1 who didn't initially want to take over right away for Dean Smith. Does IU have anyone with Roy Williams pedigree lined up? IU is just another basketball program these days, has been for a while. Plenty of coaches who can make the same coin with similar resources at other schools where they don't start "Fire the coach thread" 20 games into their tenure. It's comical at this point.

IUFB Recruiting and Transfer Portal Updates

Ehh let him go to FIU or FAU for a year or two, get some reps and experience, and bring him back when he's ready to ball out at the highest level. -
IUFB Recruiting and Transfer Portal Updates

Why? The NCAA just barred 3 basketball players from San Jose State/Fresno State for life for gambling on their sport. You're clueless if you don't think they have that power when it comes to the integrity of their organization. Silly to suggest otherwise. -

It's not and the NCAA wouldn't have subpoena power to access IP addresses if he in fact was using another persons account. He doesn't know what he's talking about. -

I've outdated myself, but in your preposterous scenario where the app was only used to "view lines" is akin to the time I told my mother I was only reading the articles in the Playboy she found under my bed. 1+1 has always equaled 2 in every generation. -

Even if he didn't bet on college football, you're still missing the bigger point. IT IS ILLEGAL TO BET UNDERAGE AND EVEN MORE ILLEGAL TO USE SOMEONE ELSES ACCOUNT/IDENTITY TO MAKE A BET. Good Lord son. -

It won't be because as an underage person, he doesn't have access to a Fanduel account in his name. -

Like I said earlier, I don't care if he bets as long as it's not on college football, although him not being 21 is somewhat of a red flag and a whole different issue in of itself from a legal standpoint. The idea that he has the FanDuel app downloaded on his phone to simply look at spreads however is legitimately the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
