  1. He took over a team with several top 50 recruits and a team that returned its top 2 scorers. You’re right, it ain’t apples to apples, DeVries didn’t inherit **** Hurley’s success took off when he hired Luke Murray away from Xavier to run his offense, not because he recruited Cam Spencer away from Rutgers or Tristan Newton away from East Carolina.
  2. What is there to get? You’ve already declared he has to make the tournament or else…
  3. Just imagine what the landscape of college basketball would look like if every first year coach who didn’t make the tournament was fired on the spot? No Bob Knight, no Wooden or Coach K. Jay Wright? See ya. Dan Hurley? Nope. Tough standard to live up too, but this is Josh’s world and we’re just living in it.
  4. Being miserable is no way to go through life. Not wanting a first year coach fired has nothing to do with “standards”.
  5. Nothing personal. Just feel sorry for you.
  6. Low standards? Rich coming from a guy who probably wasn’t alive the last time IU won a national title.
  7. You started a thread imploring to fire a coach during his first year less than 20 games in. “Realistic” isn’t a word that should be in your vocabulary. Dan Hurley was 12-8 and 3-4 in the American Conference through his first 20 games. Maybe sit the rest of this one out.
  8. The current best coach in college basketball didn’t make the tournament until year 3 and didn’t win a tournament game until year 5. You’ll live, I promise.
  9. It certainly doesn’t hurt, but IU is losing nearly its entire roster….and payroll. That doesn’t change whether or not they sneak in as a 10 or 11 seed or get the 1 seed in the NIT. Money and playing time are a far bigger sell than the success (or failures) of the previous years team in this climate, especially when the previous years team is going to be completely gutted to graduation. But yeah, I prefer we make the tournament than miss it obviously.
  10. I don’t think making or missing the tournament really means much for next years roster construction one way or the other. IU loses seven of its nine top players and has a ton of money free up. I think DeVries running a guard friendly offense with a consistent green light is more than attractive enough to prospective portal players, especially if IU commits to being competitive monetarily.
  11. Being frustrated is one thing, declaring DeVries dead less than 20 games in is another….and ridiculous at that.
  12. IU had a bad 2 week stretch earlier in the season. If we fired coaches after every 2 week lull there would be no more college basketball coaches left to fire. Is this your first year watching the sport?
  13. Ahh yes the ebbs and flow of college basketball. This is why our fanbase sucks ^^
  14. Stephon Payne from Jacksonville was a name that was linked to IU. Cannot remember if he visited or not. Either way, ended up at Seton Hall and averages 7 point and 8 rebounds a game in a little over 20 minutes a game. Has one of the better defensive rebounding % in the country. Him and Alexis as a 40 minute platoon would have us in a much better spot and would still have money leftover after significantly overpaying for Bailey.
  15. Sucks to him go but honestly the right move in his part. Plus this helps as a program going forward putting guys in the league. Myles Price and Ke’Shawn Williams both made NFL rosters last year and Sarratt and Cooper are almost assuredly day 2 picks.
  16. My post was in reference to Ben McCollum who was the “big coach” in this years cycle. McCollum took less money to go to a program where he could build his team rather than taking a job with delusional fan expectations. But yes, you are right, no “big” or established coach is going to leave their current gig for Indiana. If this is universally accepted, I’m not sure why we are shouting for a year 1 guy to be fired less than 20 games in.
  17. Tucker was extremely efficient last year and had a monster showing in the Battle of Atlantis. He isn’t a shell of himself this year.
  18. You keep saying it's BS yet no big coach wants to touch the IU job with a 10 foot pole? Why is that? Why take $6 million at IU and be out in 3 years when I can go coach at Iowa for $4 million a year and build my program as I please and turn it into a 15-20 year career?
  19. A complete reset of the basketball program is probably in the best interest long term. Been advocating that now for a few seasons.
  20. Most understand that wanting to run off a coach every one or two years isn't any kind of recipe in finding sustained success. Doesn't matter how much money you spend if you're constantly turning over your staff, roster, etc....there is literally no culture to foster in that scenario.
  21. And this is why this cycle we're in is no longer a cycle...
  22. It's a chicken and an a egg scenario. DeVries knows and understands the pressure and expectations of this job. DeVries went with an experience-laden roster to try and win out of the gate. No problem with that, as the portal allows for it. But the roster was constructed horribly and that can be chalked up to a myriad of reasons. The practical medium would have been to recruit a mixture of upperclassmen and underclassmen that you could develop along the way. Not sure the delusions of this fanbase would allow for any kind of trial and error though. What I do know is that he needs to absolute kill it in the portal this year or he's a dead man walking before the season starts. Just how things are around here.
  23. I think the NIL money was more than adequate. How it was allocated and roster construction far bigger issue. A front court that has no size, length, or athleticism is a recipe for disaster.
  24. Or maybe IU was never their "dream job" to begin with and they either landed at better programs or were at better programs to begin with.
