  1. We can revisit Kelsey and Pope 3-4 years from now, especially Pope. Declaring coaches successful 20 games in is effectively silly.
  2. I’m all for getting a “good” coach. Who might that be? I thought Crean was “good” at IU, all things considered. Archie was a “good” coach when he was hired. There’s a large sect of this fan base who thinks IU still has the draw to hire whoever they want, when they want. IU is going to end up hiring some up and coming coach because that’s all they can get (unless they want to drop the holier than thou card and hire Beard or Wade) and he’s going to get boo’d off campus sometime in year 2 or 3 because he doesn’t have the chops to handle a powder keg.
  3. Who is the right guy? Crazy that Crean is the only one to make it past year 4.
  4. Those guys weren’t fired from their jobs. And they moved up or laterally at best (Williams). What Crean did at a football school in the SEC after essentially winning the B10 twice and going to three S16’s in 6 years doesn’t mean anything to me. It doesn’t change or negate what he did in Bloomington. If the next guy has half the success of Crean, I’ll be pleasantly surprised. But as history suggests, we’ll likely be looking for his replacement 4-5 years from now.
  5. A brick wall would elicit more thoughtful replies than half the nonsense that’s spewed here.
  6. I guarantee you if IU hires Ben McCollum and says you better win 20 games and make the tournament in year 1 or you’re going to be on the hot seat going into year 2, he’s not bringing over half his Drake team. Expectations have everything to do within the timeline you’re able to do things you’re way.
  7. What he did at Georgia is irrelevant. Look what Les Miles did at Kanas after he left LSU.
  8. There’s literally ZERO expectations for Indiana football. Zero. Not comparable.
  9. There was a small(ish) sect of Purdue fans who wanted Painter fired. I think every fan base has those types of fans at any given juncture. But they certainly didn’t have Purdue media publications writing hit pieces about him or declaring the entire team was transferring or board “insiders” hammering home that the administration had deals in place with sitting HoF caliber coaches all while in-season. A little bit different.
  10. Like I said, I don’t know what that means. What is HSN?
  11. I don’t know what the means
  12. Don’t read it and then certainly don’t respond to it.
  13. Crean’s tenure had two parts. Part 1: years 1-3 Complete and total rebuild while dream boy Stevens was winning up the road Part 2: years 4-9 two B10 titles, three S16’s, two missed tourney’s (one after best player got hurt middle of the year sitting at 13-6) He was never forgiven for losing to Syracuse.
  14. Nothing to do with Mike Woodson.
  15. The sting happened the year prior. The news broke just before that season happened.
  16. Matt Painter had his worst 4 year stretch chasing “stars”. Missed two straight tournaments and lost in the first round in excruciating fashion the next two years. And instead of kicking him to the curb, he got support and was given time to change his approach and the rest is history.
  17. I don’t particularly care what he did at Georgia. We decided we were too good for S16’s and regular season B10 titles and haven’t sniffed either since.
  18. Absolutely. IU lost its best player to injury mid-season and the wheels came completely off. Did not do a good job of replacing Yogi, Newkirk was a disaster. As far as Archie goes, it didn’t matter. Lost the fan base after losing 12/13 games in year 2. He didn’t have a prayer after that. Was only a matter of time.
  19. Crean’s first 8-9 years very similar to Painter’s first 8-9 years. And Painter didn’t inherent a complete rebuild. Not talking out of my @$$ at all.
  20. We’ve never given a coach the chance to build, fail, learn, and then grow. We mock Purdue for many things, but look at Matt Painter. He struggled his first couple seasons, put together 3 very solid seasons, then went through a 4 year stretch with no tournament wins and a dead last place finish in the B10 to building one of the most consistent programs in the country. But we have no interest in doing that.
  21. That’s the problem. We determine a coach isn’t good because he doesn’t win overnight and then it’s over from there. Who thought after 3 seasons Crean was going to win two B10 titles and go to three S16’s in a 5 year period? If Crean was hired under normal circumstances he would have been long gone before then.
  22. In year 1? No. Completely overhauling the last 30 years of mediocrity and non-existent culture should be priority #1. If you win 20+ games, that’s a cherry on top. But it shouldn’t be the expectation that starts the seat warmer going into year 2. You guts act like I’m crazy but we’ve been doing the same **** over and over the last quarter century.
  23. Curious to hear who you think IU goes after once Stevens and May say no?
