18 UK turnovers. Love to see it

Crean built the program to a place where it could then judge his performance by tournament success. Kudos to him for that. He had achieved his ceiling here. They missed on the subsequent hires. We just won a banner in football. Eventually, it’s about championships. But we’ve been set so far back after Woodson that all this “level-headed” fanbase wants to do is walk before running, aka just making tourneys again.

Odds/Thoughts on building top 25 preseason
Jeff Flabjohns replied to WayneFleekHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
One last ride with his son. Seeing how it all played out…I wish for his sake and ours that Tucker had been healthy all last year. DDv gets some additional tourney experience and then comes here with a fresh start, without his $2M+ dollar hobbled son playing below expectations all season. Hiring him in mid-March didn’t set us up any better anyway. Maybe that’s too harsh, I don’t know -
Arkansas would beat them as well

7 S16s for Painter in 9 years. :(
-
Would have been nice for you to tell me, I had Gonzaga in the finals smh
-
Goodness Malik. Kid never learned to kick it out. 3 on 1 in the paint and goes up.
-
Ugh. Reneau has been awful today
-
He’s had a fair amount of good athletes during his tenure.

Henderson is filling it up for them so far today. Dude is built, just a freshman. Had a great year Lucas has been great. Didn’t fully assemble his staff until mid April but still got the right players and has a promising future with the freshmen. Lucky them.

Odds/Thoughts on building top 25 preseason

I agree there’s a lot of value coming into the season ranked or nearly ranked. No chance we get that after the crap we’ve put out the last 3 years. -

We made a decently big splash last year. One Top 25 guy (TDV lol), another top 50, another top 75 and two more around 100 (Dorn, Conerway)—this is all per 247. All that got us exactly one vote in the AP poll. 1-3% chance we do enough to get ranked preseason. Would need to get like 3 top 30 guys. No guarantee that works. Miami was nowhere near the top 25 and I’m watching them on my screen right now -
Malik has looked rough in the early going

I’d have questioned his judgement if he left Michigan after one year (and the success they had and NIL improvements that afforded him) to come to IU. Duh? This is about 2024. Again, Good to great coaches are not scared away by a ‘toxic’ fanbase/admin that wants to cut bait on a subpar coach early. These coaches know their worth and are supremely confident in their abilities when promisedtop-tier fan engagement and resources. Like CIG! Keep blaming the fans.

Good hire for them. Syracuse NIL infrastructure must be bootycheeks. Maybe Hodgson turned down Syracuse because they canned their coach after only 3 years?! Just don’t check how long English was at Providence…

Besides May those names ARE delusional. Almost no brand in this day and age can pull a sitting natty winning coach. Kentucky just went through this. They were unlikely to go to any University, especially with NIL where more teams are equivalent. Did some fans want us to make the call? Sure, but no school is good enough to move for those names. I’m sorry this hurt your feelings. May would have been here if we acted like any other serious program and discarded Woodson after year 3. IU guy making the move up to P4. Instead we were stuck with bottom quartile coaches for 8 years. Good to great coaches are not scared away by a ‘toxic’ fanbase/admin that wants to cut bait on a subpar coach early. These coaches know their worth and are supremely confident in their abilities when promised top-tier fan engagement and resources. Like CIG! Keep blaming the fans. Every other school serious about basketball (P4 conference, tradition, massive/invested fanbase, top-20 NIL) knows the value of having the right guy. Coaching acumen, relationship building, talent evaluation all matter more than ever. 3 years is enough to know if your current guy has what it takes.

The Caleb Wilson injury obviously crushed their season. UNC is saying—we’re investing top 5 money into this program and we need see results commensurate to that. Like consistently making second weekends. A few more missed tourneys and we’ll be doing the same

Respecting their ball-knowing, passionate, massive fanbase by moving on from a subpar coach. They know the value of their base to the overall brand and success. Good for them. We kept a guy who antagonized the fans and turned players against us.
-
He’s done pretty well there. A national final and another S16 in five years. No tourney wins in a few years and they’re ready to bail. “The fanbase is the problem!” I can’t fault em if they think it’s time and hire an upgrade. Knowledgable, passionate fanbase. They’re a serious program, top 5 job, so UNC will cut bait after 2-3 years if they hire the wrong one.

Yaxel and Mara taking over. So damn good. Dusty will forever be a destination for uber-talented bigs, at a discount too.

Awesome game thus far

No use arguing with the guy. He spent all last year blaming us, and fans at large, that pushing out Woody was why no good coach would come here. During the first half of last year, he compared Dusty repeatedly to Crean because of their perceived common faults. Cited FT shooting, blowing late leads, and “incompetent in game management”. Became awfully quiet on both these fronts once Dusty continued to kill it and Woody’s tenure ended in a toxic whimper coupled with us upgrading at coach. Dusty May would’ve been in Bloomington if we let Woodson go after year 3. He was as obvious of a great coach as there’s been in years. Pushing out bad coaches ‘early’ doesn’t prevent great ones from being available to you at IU.
