IU didn’t fire him last year when we sucked something awful, but will fire him at 5-4 in the Big 10? You serious, Clark?

I used to worry about the interim getting hot issue, too, but agree that no assistant would be made head coach permanently. The issue I see is the smoke that Woodson is going to get fired mid-season. Given that we kept him after last year’s training wreck, I just don’t see IU pulling the trigger. Why would they mid-season? Don’t get me wrong. I hope and think they should. I just don’t see it as a real possibility.

No. Making the tournament though? I think that will give his few supporters enough juice.

I wish I could be there with you guys in that. I have no idea why anyone thinks Woodson is gone if he makes the tournament. We have heard something may happen this weekend. When it doesn’t, we will hear that it will happen before the Maryland game. And then it won’t, so surely it will happen by the“fill in the blank” game.

Well, we have yet to beat a team above .500 in the Big 10. So while I think firing him before the end of the season is wish casting, IU still has an uphill battle to make the tournament. And he’s gone if we don’t unless we are total morons and not just kinda morons.

I’m not saying people’s sources are wrong but I’m not sure I see a path to remove him anytime soon. Maybe there have been some what if type discussions. Maybe convincing him to “retire”. But I’m old enough to remember the talk about firing him last year, and we know how that turned out. If we win this game and lose to NU, that Maryland game is gonna be something.

I wouldn’t boo either. But I get why they did. And I’m not going to feel bad for players getting paid a relative crap ton of money but not producing results. Welcome to reality.

Galloway and Leak got paid to back Woodson. They bought their tickets, took the risk. I say, let ‘em crash.

How about to demonstrate that these results are beyond unacceptable, to remove the toxicity that will surely be at home games here on out and maybe win games against good team? Or at least, not get blown out? This isn't difficult to understand.

Those are valid reasons why you don’t fire him now. Nothing to do with knee jerk reactions. More about strategery. But there are valid reasons why you fire him now even if it doesn’t result in a better record. You decisively show that this performance is unacceptable. You remove a lot of the fan vitriol and toxic atmosphere that will be present at home games this year. And you say no matter what the record is, there will be a new coach next year. Again, I’m not saying that’s the only way to go. I think it’s absolutely a valid way though.

The fact that someone thinks firing Woodson now is a knee jerk reaction to one loss shows just how badly our program is being run.

I kinda understand why IU won’t fire him mid-season but I also love the fact that the power brokers have to sit there and watch fans boo and social media make fun of what has become a laughingstock of a program. All because of piss poor decisions they made. Every boo and fire Woodson chant is a direct reflection on them.

I’m not plugged into IU athletics, politics or anything close. But to me, cig’s success makes it tougher to justify keeping Woodson if we barely make the tourney and get a quick bounce. Why? Because it’s easier to turn a basketball program around than football. So why the hell hasn’t IU basketball been consistently good since the early 90s? The biggest issue I see is the apathy from IU fans regarding basketball is high . That’s the only thing that can save Woodson. People have just stopped giving a ****.

How bad has IU fallen in terms of expectations? I have friends who thought we played well last night. In fact, they thought we played well against Winthrop. I made the comment that we haven’t beaten anyone good and got the Providence game thrown back. I’m not at the point where I’m rooting for IU to lose but really hope we don’t end up squeaking into the tourney so people can say, we’re back. Either compete for a Big 10 title or suck.

Agree that preseason ranking wouldn’t matter because IU would not be on the bubble right now. 1-3 in quad 1-2 with the 3 losses being blow outs would not get us in. It’s an up hill climb from here.

True. But as much as I want Woodson gone, and I question any power broker in place who advocated for keeping him after last year, I still think firing him mid-season wouldn’t likely result in the optimal solution. Unless it’s Stevens.

One issue with firing Woodson mid-season is, what happens if they go on a hot run and we end up in a position of having to consider the interim coach? Screw that. We shouldn’t fire him until we are confident in who we want to replace him. Unfortunately, that could mean this season sucks @$$, but I do what another poster does and tape the game so I can fast forward. Makes things easier.

I shouldn’t get satisfaction out of this but imagining the Woodson supporters who donated big money watching their money go down the drain and seething makes me feel marginally better. Those folks have created this mess and deserve all the derision. And that includes the IU administration.

If SMU gets beat by Miami, and they stay ahead of IU, then it’s rigged. They drop IU 5 spots for a loss at OSU but keep SMU ahead of IU if they lose? Possible. But no logic to it.
