  1. He improved the Hawks each year he was coach and too them to the playoffs. He’s the last Knicks coach to get them to the playoffs. I’m not saying he’s Phil Jackson. But you don’t spend that long in the NBA if you aren’t a good coach.
  2. Fair take. And I’m guessing there will be some dynamic assistant coaches on staff.
  3. I’ll take those 3. Would love Cheaney.
  4. Yep. I was all for Crean and Miller. I bought into the concept of if they could do it there, they will be able to knock it out at IU. Give me an NBA coach who is an IU legend who wants to coach here. Along with a great basketball mind like Matta. And I’m sure they will add 3 good assistants. I’m stoked. I’ve been pretty apathetic for a while now. But this is awesome.
  5. OK. Hiring Woodson is better than waiting in Musselman, Oats or beard.
  6. Agree there. And I get the concern about lack of college experience. I just think the way the college game is going, this approach makes sense.
  7. So, college coaches know the NBA, even if they never worked in the NBA. But an NBA coach doesn’t know college?
  8. Agree. Adding Matta is big. Adding Lewis or Fife would be awesome.
  9. I think that people saying recruits won’t know who Woodson is is overblown. They will know as soon as he is named coach. And Woody will be able to talk to recruits about how he has developed NBA players. We will see. But I like putting Woodson up against Painter in developing relationships with recruits.
  10. That’s him. coaching some random player.
  11. You aren’t the only one. I have been for Woodson ever since I didn’t want Woody last go around and wanted Miller. Sure, not the best reasoning but I’ll be super stoked if Woodson is hired. And I’m not kidding or trolling at all.
  12. Another positive is that Woodson is a good coach and could win a lot of games at IU.
  13. Seems more realistic than Woodson/Matta, but I’d also be happy with that
  14. Agree with this. I’m no expert on Indiana AAU ball but if they can determine who IU hires, something is off. Not saying they have no influence, but damn.
  15. Same. I have know idea what conversations Dolson has had with Beilein and while he might not be my first choice, the dude can flat out coach. If we add Fife (or Lewis) as an assistant, that would be very cool.
  16. So, my Woody dream is till alive?
  17. They mostly do 80s rock. GNR, Aerosmith, ac/dc. But damn. Hoosier in the elite 8. Freaking awesome.
  18. Wow. I’m drinking about to see an 80s tribute band (who are awesome) and saw the lady Hoosiers score. Way to go Hoosiers. So freaking happy for you. Hoo-hoo-Hoosiers.
  19. Depends on what she looks like and who she cheated on me with.
  20. True. Key word there is “may”. As opposed to “does”. I’m not sure how you guarantee a coach to whoever put up the money. We may never know how close Stevens was to coming, but until he left Boston, it was not 100%. The donor had to have known that Stevens wasn’t a sure thing. And what if the donor really wants an IU Guy?
  21. Yeah, I’m going to avoid Stevens. If it happens, great. Don’t want to spoil it. 1) Drew 2) Musselman But I will, say there are a lot of others I’d be fine with. Including Woody. Graduated in 88 so my favorite team was 87.
  22. Yep. Just got done with 5 down years. Let’s get the coach right and the rest will be fine.
  23. The way this search is playing out, it’s the lack of evidence that means we likely are taking with him. Not saying we get him. But how cool would it be if both our basketball and football coach went to Maranatha Baptist?
  24. Ignore him. He wants a rise out of IU (or any other fan base) so not feeding the trolls works best, IMO.
  25. I have a question for those closer to Indiana AAU ball and its importance. I haven’t lived in Indiana since 1991 and my kids played soccer and hockey, so have no knowledge of the inner workings of AAU basketball. I understand the issue with Hanner and Indiana Elite. But would that bad blood really be enough to not hire Drew? Because if my son played for Indiana Elite (or any AAU problem), he would go to college that’s right for him. He wouldn’t boycott a school because of drama that happened 10 years ago. I just seems like Drew would be a great coach at IU. And for all the sleaziness I read about him, it seems to come down to the Hanner situation, which he didn’t handle well. OK, so let’s move on. Am I being naive with that thinking?
