I’m no expert but isn’t the point of an offense to get the best shot possible each possession? We take so many shots that we’d get on people taking at the HPER, let alone in the Big 10.

Advanced copy of the statement: We have seen media reports about the status of Mike Woodson. Mike Woodson is our basketball coach and will continue to be as he tries to make it over a very steep hump. It’s almost a hill, really. With only 3 McDonald AAs, he has IU with a winning record and primed to make some sort of post season appearance. The King is the coach. The haters are going to need to find another foil.

No one I know personally would think it’s terrible if they straight up fired him.

I also don't care if he coaches the rest of the season or not. I’d prefer not, but as long as he is gone, I agree with the thought that it has no bearing on our search either way. What will be bad is if there is no official announcement before the game tomorrow.

Why can’t Dolson fire him if it’s Woodson who leaked this?

Is it really a step down? I’m not trying to be flippant here but is being a GM of an NBA team a bigger deal than being a head coach at a top 10 basketball school? I’m not an NBA fan but I couldn’t name a single GM or front office guy for an NBA team.

Maybe I’m in the minority but I think the “contemplating” stuff is perfect. He’s gone. So this makes it seem like it was his decision. I think we will get an official announcement tomorrow that he is retiring. Who cares what the messaging is today. Whether he continues to coach is interesting. I don’t care as long as it isn’t affecting who we could get as a coach.

Kathywithac: I’m not sure why any of you are surprised. IU doesn’t make knee jerk reactions to just 7 losses. Expect an evaluation of the things at the end of the season and we will make a prudent, rational decision, like we always do.

Agree. The only legitimate reason I’ve seen for not firing him now is putting pressure on coaches we would be looking at. But that’s just part of being a sought after coach. The downside to keeping him is much higher. If the game gets ugly Saturday and the fans start to chant Dusty’s name, it’s not the fan’s fault. It’s 100% on IU.

That’s what’s funny to me. There are some IU fans who think the outside world thinks we are too impatient with coaches. Not my non-IU friends. They have wondered why IU has put up with this crap. I’m live in Georgia. Zero chance UGA would tolerate anything close to this.

I get it. In our mind, life is an 80s coming of age movie where the underdog gets the hot chick. In reality, he ends up with some ball breaker who ends up spending his money and running off with his boss.

My concern is if we don’t get Stevens, we end up with Woody part 2. I don’t think it will happen if Dolson has a say. But my main concern isn’t that we miss yet again on Stevens. That’s just Tuesday around here.

He’s the king. He doesn’t need to put up with that. He should resign just to show IU fans they don’t know who they are messing with.

What I’m picking up is, if Woodson gets fired before Michigan, it’s Stevens. If not, it’s May. Pretty sure I’m getting that right ;)

Two close games, though. Seems like maybe we are getting close to getting over that pesky hump. If the game lasted 39 minutes, we’d be set.
