Definitely interested to see how he does at X. I’m not convinced he’s very good, but he was young and did just do very well the past two seasons, and X gets good players

Hmm, disagree. I said sometimes comically, and it was. His record sounds like Crean. Would have been badly disappointed if IU had hired him, but that was never going to happen

I wonder if it’s a good move for Xavier. He was bad at Minny, sometimes comically, over 8 years. Has done very well the past 2. How much of that is players - lightning in a bottle? Miller to Pitino looks like a real downgrade to me, but interested to see if the past 2 seasons are a reflection of his coaching, or not

Yeah — though again, in fairness, these guys can play, they would’ve been fine under your average coach, but they had absolutely no offense, nothing, Woodson is why they looked as bad as they did, I’d bet they play better elsewhere. Can’t just put it all on them -
I understand where you're coming from. My thinking -- as a program, we're already close, already competing with the top programs, a SW16 - level program without the size and athleticism that Moren recognizes the team needs to grow with. She's already recruiting highly ranked players. Hopefully she lands some more -- and I agree generally a team needs a player like a Holmes plus others to compete for a NC -- but add size and athleticism in her system and I absolutely think she can take the team beyond SW16 finishes. A couple added points there -- 1) South Carolina just barely beat the Holmes team (by 4) -- that team, under Moren, could have won a NC, it was right there, so just labeling it a SW16 team is just not fair. 2) As Moren also pointed out in her presser, one of the issues in Women's bball right now is the home court advantage the current NCAA tourney affords teams, the regional breakout for the men's tourney is the better system (not that it's not without it's own flaws). We just had to play SC on its floor. That's ridiculous, but this team -- without ANY top flight / top ranked player -- still played SC within 9 points, won or matched them for 3 quarters, on their floor. I don't think we're just a SW16 program under Moren (who has of course been to the Elite Eight), I think the program is really, really close to a NC competitive team.

Completely unrelated to the above, I've been on a mostly metal instrumental music vein for some time. Cloudkicker is one of those rock/metal bands most haven't heard of but that if they had vocals they'd probably be well known in rock. Not a bunch of speed/screaming guitars (that gets kind of dull pretty quickly), both heavy gain-backed guttural guitars and pure acoustic work, some of the best stuff I've listened to, here's a couple Seattle - builds beautifully It's inside me and I'm inside it - chill

Not sure how I hadn't heard this before, found it sifting through some Chris Cornell stuff, posted above on him but the dude had one of the most melodic driven voices in rock -- A Day in the Life, acoustic -- outstanding

Did you actually watch the presser? I don't think you did based on this post. Moren discussed her team building and recruiting philosophy at length - candidly - and towards the end, directly addressing the question, said that as the women's game has grown IU needs to grow with it, and that includes recruiting bigger and more athletic players. That's exactly what's needed and she clearly gets it -- her caveat as part of that is that her program is built on players who want to work and play for each other as a team, who are proven winners coming in, and she runs a defense - first team. She won't recruit for stars just because they're highly ranked she wants buy in, and her philosophy has IU in the NCAA tourney basically every year for a decade and competing at the top and with the best programs. Add more size and athleticism, and they'll get to the next level, and that's clearly what she intends.

One thing to keep in mind, announcing for the portal after a coaching change doesn’t necessarily mean a guy’s leaving. It’s the right thing to do to gauge interest and to negotiate a possible return if that’s in the cards. Not saying this applies now, but it’s early to think a player is necessarily gone just because he announces (and just look back at our own team’s history).

Jmo, but system (to go with coaching) is the operative word. What he did ar Washington wasn’t some fluke, but he had actial offensive sets and actions for guard play, with wing and perimeter play. Under Woodson he had nothing. He’s a good player. Whether DeVries wants to keep him and what NIL level is up to him, but he can play, under a coach with a clue.
-
And continuity. Not that we want continuity of Woodson's absence of offense and schemes, but having familiarity between at least some of the players and their respective games is important for chemistry and ability to hit the floor running. Just throwing 15 guys together from different teams or new recruits is a recipe for lack of game chemistry. Pick a few as a general core to the extent Coach is comfortable with them and how they'll fit his system. No coach wants 15 guys who don't know each other to start.

Honestly just nuts. Never seen anything like this level of laziness in a HC.

Whar a sad little clown. Jockitch went off thr rails years ago, but he continues to sink to new lows. Sad. Little. Clown.

Such a great coach. And yes she clearly gets it. First and foremost continue to build the program with the hardworking team-first players that define her program, but as the sport has developed and grown grow with it— bigger, more athletic players- she specifically noted that. I have every confidence she is an excellent steward of the program on top of being an excellent coach and representative of the U.

Repeating myself but DeVries should stick with people he knows, trusts and has good results with. Ok with this
