It's not inevitable by any means. Last year's class was ranked #10 by 247 for example. Of course, it had the benefit of being a 12 man transfer class. Now we are fully staffed and need fewer players. Hopefully we only sign 6 or 7 players who are more talented in the portal this time around.

I was a bit surprised too. Sounds like BC is making NIL commitments they haven't before. And their fans think it's a lower risk move for him than taking a mid major where he'd be expected to win his conference. If he gets BC to .500 he will get a ton of credit for turning them around. If he fails... of course, it's BC basketball. Very curious how he will do

Boston College has had 3 coaches since 2009... that's also when their last tournament appearance was. Great evidence for the next coach deserves 6+ years argument. Lol

I also prefer HC hires that have been in that role for a long time. Not sure Butler has that as a requirement or the finances to pull an established coach... if they're willing to let him learn on the job and think he has high upside at low cost, seems worth a shot IMO. Not like they have a title or bust culture or something.

Hopefully we know a lot sooner than in a month. If we don't have a good picture of where things stand in a month we are probably in trouble. Last year the portal was open March 24 - April 22. This year the portal is open April 7 - April 21. If the staff has been appropriately proactive we should probably have our core in place by mid-April latest.

Can Butler really do much better? Seems like a high upside, low downside hire to me. A) They don't have the money to pull a sitting P5 coach B) he was an assistant in college for two years and has more than 10 years of NBA assistant experience C) he's young and probably comes pretty cheap. If he is good, they have their next coach for the foreseeable future and Butler is definitely a place where he will be afforded time to learn on the job. If he doesn't work out, it's easy enough to make a clean break.

Hopefully Drew Adams has already been on this. Cut him a $2.5-3M check and let's go

Some definitely would. I personally wouldn't in the exact same scenario. EX: if Norton leaves next year, it'd be basically the same thing and I'd feel the exact same way about that. If Norton had left IU after this year, with the year we had, that would be a red flag for me.

The current rumor (if you can call it that) from Rabby - he says it's his opinion and just that... only his opinion - that Sisley returns + maybe Dorn and Andrej. The rest transfer. I think we may hear something later this week on that front. No info, just speculating

Hubert Davis put out a statement. The usual stuff. Then says his goal is to coach again in the very near future.

Not unusual for assistant coaches to move around often while they're trying to grow their careers and networks. He got great experience with Kelsey from CofC to Louisville. Now he has an opportunity to get paid presumably more and do the same thing at Indiana. A lateral move can set him up well for his next opportunity if he contributes to success at IU.

UNC fans don't seem to have a ton of faith in their athletic department at the moment. The guy responsible for Bellichick has stepped down from the board but doesn't seem like a lot of fans are confident in their "process" at the moment. They are factoring in the need to buy him out (maybe that's premature) lol. Also have long term concerns about the fact their football program lacks support. Some more alarmist fans calling it an existential threat to their basketball program... Going to be a very interesting carousel with Kansas also possibly hiring

IMO no shot with any of these guys except Byington.
