KzooHoosier82 replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a case like this. Usually parents and coaches vet this kind of stuff before making a switch. I’m surprised he doesn’t just transfer to a prep school and salvage what he can. -
I know of Ned and heard of his connections to IU but even if Archie or staff gave him recruiting tid bits (which I highly doubt they do) he wouldn’t be telling his buddies especially given how easily it would be to know his “buddies” are turning around and posting said info on sites. Guys like Ned would shut that down in a second knowing it would otherwise result in him being shut out. Personally I think all of that “insider” stuff is nonsense by people who enjoy feeling important. It’s nauseating and I’d just assume wait until a kid announces rather than get all caught up in the preliminary crap. Sometimes we as adults need to get a grip and not take our hobbies so seriously. The “insider” stuff I see over here makes sense and seems to be presented as an educated opinion where as over on HSN it’s to be treated as gospel. Any notion of challenging it or holding those “insiders” who spread BS accountable will be met with mob justice. I made one comment here of my opinion of Sam Story (one that many people agree with) and someone brought it over there causing a **** storm. It’s pretty pathetic imo. I’m glad this site tends to root itself reality and isn’t the soap opera that is hsn.

He’s incredibly unreliable, getting far more absolutely wrong than right (in 3+ years I haven’t seen him get anything right but someone who pays more attention might beg to differ). Both him and the other HSN “insider” make bold yet vague comments and usually back out of them. Sam also has a history of deleting his posts so people can’t quote him when he’s dead wrong. Personally I find them, and their mob following, incredibly annoying and is most of the reason I don’t post over there anymore. You’ll never learn anything from them that isn’t printed in an interview or quoted from Rabjohns and the rest of their “intel” almost always proves false and/or irrelevant.

Nothing will happen. It’s completely unbelievable what IU endured as a result of Sampson and yet no one else gets punished and when they try, a local judge (who’s probably an alumni) reverses it. Meanwhile Kansas is also playing kids who got paid. Why were phone calls such a big deal if bottom feeder programs like Memphis can pay kids. Rant over, just absolutely tired of the BS

Penix and Ramsey, a perspective
KzooHoosier82 replied to RaceToTheTop's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Agreed. Also, he keeps getting hurt on called runs which have a higher probability of him encountering a DLine or LB where as the scrambling runs are more often tackled by a DB. Plus he has a better chance of sliding or getting out of bounds. Penix’s called runs haven’t been all that successful anyway. Be a pocket passer and scramble to avoid pressure. Let Stevie handle the run plays -
It’s not odd at all. Duke couldn’t shoot to save their lives and committed 16 turnovers themselves. It was a sloppy game with very few positives for either side.
-
Kansas looks awful. I’ve never heard of a top 5 ranked team commit 28 turnovers in a game. Pretty sure Coach Knight would have pulled his team off the floor in forfeit at 25.

He also gets limited reps in practice being QB3. He gets high praise from the coaching staff -

Allen is also close with Taggart. No way he’d take over there with what he has going on here. -
Fire or ‘Way to Go!’ Tom Allen?

If they can win the next two with no running game and a walk on QB, that’s not a miracle, that’s a deal with the devil -
Penix and Ramsey, a perspective
KzooHoosier82 replied to RaceToTheTop's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Penix is a freshmen playing better than Ramsey as a Junior (who’s playing his best football of his career) so my point was: Penix, from a talent perspective, is starting off his college career playing better than Ramsey at presumably the top of his potential. Freshmen QBs who are asked to run the ball are going to get injured. Ramsey also got hurt his freshmen year. But being injury prone was not nor should have been considered in my analysis of their talent -
Penix and Ramsey, a perspective

How many times do I have to articulate that MSU’s defense isn’t the same as OSU, rather it’s just the second best we’ve seen all season and the only comparable we have? Because I’ve literally made that caveat three times now. But continue with your asinine theory that because IU’s defensive stats per game are currently in line with MSUs then come see me in December after their stretch against the conferences worst teams plus arch rival Michigan. Never mind the talent disparity in pre the conference scheduling. Back to Penix the only point I was making is that he can make the sideline and downfield throws against athletic defenses that Ramsey can’t due to arm strength. So while there are teams Ramsey can beat there are others he cannot. Penix doesn’t put our team in that position. End of point. -

They’ve played a much tougher schedule than we have and have Rutgers, Illinois and Maryland left to play. Also, they can’t run the ball or score so they give up more possessions and yardage as a result. You’re not seeing the forest through the trees here. -

I literally said in my post it’s not the same but it’s the best comparison we have to go off of this season. Quoting yards given up making them 7th in the conference vs points given up (what actually matters) is you just being a contrarian for the sake of argument. Also you may want to consider the schedule they’ve played thus far as well. I’m fully aware MSU and OSU’s defenses are not equal. But saying MSUs defense is equal to ours is just false. -

Penix struggled against Rutgers? Absolute insane take, much like every other take you offer on this topic. Whatever man. You like Ramsey. Got it. Debating football with you is a fruitless endeavor. Good day to you -

MSU’s record is way more to do with their inability to sustain drives and score points. They have one of the best defenses in the country. I’m not arguing Ramsey hasn’t played really well this year but his ceiling is Penix’s floor, which should be obvious to anyone watching the two this year. -
If both Wake and Texas lose this Saturday during our bye week, we’ll be ranked in the polls coming into Penn St.

It’s really not that complicated. We saw what happens when you put Ramsey against elite defenses like Ohio St contrasted to what we saw with Penix vs MSU (not the same but it’s the best comparison we have). Ramsey can’t make the outside and deep throws against speed defenders because he doesn’t have the arm strength. Against certain defenses, Ramsey is more than capable and has shown that. Penix still has a ways to go before he reaches his full potential but he still gives us an opportunity to win in games that Ramsey likely doesn’t. Furthermore, it behooves our staff to give Penix the reps because even if one argues it’s a tie between them now, our future depends on Penix becoming the elite QB Ramsey isn’t. -
Tuttle can play but he may be a bit of a head case in that he expected to come here and start seemingly not unlike what teams dealt with in Gunner Kiel (who any team in the country would gladly have as a backup at the time). Fans need to give him a chance. Penix is a special talent, Ramsey is a coaching staff favorite. He’s lost in the mix right now but don’t think he’s not licking his chops if Ramsey leaves after this year given how injury prone Penix has been. All Im saying is give the kid a chance
