They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

It’s just a guess. It’s probably moot because I don’t think Woodson is retiring mid season. We will see. -
Houston up 48-42 at Kansas. They have no stars (household names) on their team like Kansas but my goodness they play their butts off. Such a great defensive team that’s hardworking and clearly tough. Their double teaming of Dickinson is how you do it.

I don’t think Woodson retires mid season…but if for some reason he did, Calbert is probably our guy in the interim…also, he’s not looking to be a head coach so we wouldn’t have to worry about a Mike Davis situation. But my God, I’m beginning to miss those years in comparison to this. Let’s not forget…Davis’ last year, we were a 6th seed in the tournament ousted in the 2nd round by 3 seed Gonzaga and Adam Morrison. If we got a 6th seed, The King would be looking for another raise. Just shows you how much times have changed -

It’s games like tomorrow where you would see the arena packed to the top in prior years. I suspect the balcony will be half empty. -

The caveat is the OLD Guard is very powerful. The buck stops with them and unfortunately Woodson is part of that group. Time will tell. -

Knight was imperfect, but so many of his former players would disagree with you. There's been countless of stories, including from Woodson, of how much love and support Knight gave them during and post college. As Isaiah Thomas famously said “Outside of my mother, [Bobby Knight]’s had the greatest impact on my life.” -

This may be more old school...but coaches need to strike a bit of fear into their players. Sitting them on the bench is a good start...If not, then you're liable of having the players run the program. Clearly, grandpa is a term, you wouldn't want for the coach coaching/managing your favorite team or school. Now father figure can be different, because father's instill discipline, grandpas? not so much. Of all the great managers, and coaches...Joe Torre, Bob Knight, Coach K, Scotty Bowman...etc, I'm pretty sure not one of them has ever been likened to a player's "Grandpa." -

Serious adjustments by the Coaching Staff at half (sarcasm). Let's be honest, Ya isn't cooking up adjustments at the half...ahhhh, thanks World Wide Wes. -

Woodson must hate winning because his abysmal lineups prove that -

All we need to know about Woodson, is it’s game 20 and he’s still trying to figure out the lineups lol -

Woodson takes out Rice and Ballo late in the game and the lead immediately balloons to 14. You can’t make this up. -

Woodson’s refusal to adjust to a modern style of basketball has cost us numerous games. Chalk this one up as another. Malik and Ballo cannot be playing together. -

Absolutely. These teams actually try. Our team takes on the mold of our coach. Lazy. We’ll see where this season takes us but I don’t see a “light switch” turning on and all of a sudden we start playing hard -

Shockingly (sarcasm), Woodson doesn't put fear in these guys. They consider him like a "grandpa." -

LOL. We have to have one of the worst Assistant Coaching Staffs (not support staff) in the country. This is what happens when you have an assistant hired solely because World Wide Wes wanted him to get a job...and 2 others who were on the former coaching staff...a Staff that lost a lot of games...and of course, Walsh being one of them, tried to jump ship on Woodson and go join OSU. Clearly, our assistant coaching staff doesn't do anything of substance, because if they did, we wouldn't be seeing the same dumb stuff game in and game out. -

Can't blame him. He's the exact opposite of Woodson in terms of winner's mentality and culture setting.
