Someone give me some context for the Woodson hate. He is a well respected, defensive minded coach that, by the player interviews posted on here seems to hold players( even NBA players) accountable. His record as the Hawks HC overall was mediocre, but the team improved every year to the point of 53-29 in his last season. As Knicks HC, he coached them to their only 1st place finish in the Atlantic division since 1993 and most , wins since 1994. HeII, his 37 wins in his 2nd season are more wins than any NYK team he didn't coach since 2003. He isn't my first choice, but it seems that a lot of dislike for him, much like like for others is just a lot of posters parroting others. I get he would need some strong recruiters, but I don't see the reason for all the angst towards him as HC If I am wrong, I don't watch NBA, so I might well be, please point to what I am missing.

The recruits that people want IU to chase and get are ones with NBA aspirations. Mama, papa, brother, third cousin are all looking to cash in. Taking part in a social experiment will not be what most want to do. Female HC'ing will need to start at smaller D1 schools and, by success, work it's way into major P5 programs. The first female CEO wasn't at IBM. It might not be right, but this is how it will happen.

Had they won it that would be undeniable, and at the time it was a great time watching that run, but it was easily foreseeable that that extra week in the tourney delayed getting rid of an obviously bad coach by probably at least 2 seasons. I still picture him with his just at a poop sandwich faces and tirades at refs after calls, which were not wrong, just not what he wanted. He was like watching a bad rec dad coach scream at the ref making $10 a game about something he has no idea about.

He was dragged there by Knight educated players. I remember thinking at the time that unexpected tourney run was one of the worst things that could happen, as it led to a big contract extension after he actually stumped for a raise at one of the tourney pressers. " Davis attracted nationwide attention on the eve of IU’s national championship game against Maryland by saying he hoped to get a raise and saying his lifetime ambition was to coach in the National Basketball Association. " Davis was obviously an inferior coach by anyone with half of a basketball brain. His career has taken a predictable path to lesser schools with glimpses of limited success and firings. Each subsequent team became less and less fundamentally sound and possessed lower and lower BB IQ.

Because he is one of the top 5-10 current coaches in terms of success, to suggest he adjust his ultra successful program just to appease a McChicken with bacon and cheese is comical. Of the top 10 teams in tempo, only three rank in the top 100, only 3 of 20 are in the top 50, 15 of 20 rank 89th or worse. While 14 of the top 20 teams rank outside of the top 100 in tempo with only 3 ranked higher than 79. The reality is tempo is largely inversely proportional to success. But hey tempo and personality, amIright.

So more than winning, you value style and personality? That's the most un-IU thing I think you could possibly say. The core code of IU basketball is an absence of chest thumping, no names on the jerseys, win as a team. I am not here enough to know, but I imagine you are too young to actually have any clue what IU basketball style was when they were winning. Hint, it wasn't particularly exciting, well at least to the basketball novices. maybe research 4 corners or 5 touches before a shot.

Bulls were in Detroit playing the Pistons, so...

If you consider a guy that has won a NC and the ACC 5 times in the last 8 years a failure, not sure what you would consider a success.

Good God, just watch their offense. They stand around until 10 seconds on the shot clock and then Tre Man shoots a three. He recruits well, but couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag. I've got 2 UF grads and they are begging for him to go.
-
Mike White is awful. I have two UF grad sons and watch them fairly often. He recruits well, but his offense is dribble a hole in the floor and chuck up a bad look 3. He is middle of the road in a conference that tends to be very top heavy

If TT loses to ARK today, rumors will start swirling I am sure. Interesting little nugget, Beard's buyout drops from $2.5M to $2M in ten days on April 1. Wonder if that would factor in on timing of announcement if he were the guy.
-
Short and simple: Indiana guy is a tie breaker not a criterion, period.

My avi says it all.

Maybe he comes here, says he roots for the Colts, prefers fair food to Texas B-B-Q and swerves to avoid potholes on SR37.

Candidate Thread: Brad Stevens (Boston Celtics)

I think he handled it poorly. If a girl you were close with from childhood knew you were in a rocky relationship and she mentioned that she wanted to date you in the past and would like to date you now and you were firm in your belief and desire that you can make your current relationship work out do you: A) Tell her she is the reason you believe in love and that you have great memories of your time together and that you have so many deep connections with her that you will never forget but you really appreciate and like your current girlfriend. or B) Do you say, "I am sorry but I am in a committed relationship which I plan to see through by thank you, I'm flattered. -
With him, the worry is if Texas ever come calling and he bolts. He is definitely at the top of the list with a big $20M type buyout. But even with that, would you want a guy that wants to be elsewhere if that came up?

I want a healthy guy in my avatar. Proven winner with enough Indiana/ Midwest roots that he won't be looking to bolt. Is young enough to coach well over another decade.

Why? Everything that has been "heard" has been bullSh1t. It's obvious Dolson runs a tight lipped ship. It would be very unprofessional to leak talks with a current tournament coach. As for Stevens, not going to hate on the guy, but his pressers leading on IU fans and then his unnecessary comments yesterday are a bit disappointing. -
How much have you heard outside of the "in the know" on here? If you are coaching Baylor, TT, Bama, Vill, I don't think B'town Banners is on your radar. There has been zero national news about the IU job. We are circling in our own self important universe the rest of the NCAA, outside of PUke fans, couldn't give a sh1t about. It won't be a problem.

All unnecessary. Where is the first place you go when returning to Bloomington? Have a guy at Nick's, Kilroy's, Mother Bears, and the Irish Lion, 90% one will be his first stop. -

It couldn't be lining up better to happen, with the Celtics starting to show cracks in player infighting on the sidelines, fan discontent, and uninspired play, this becomes an easy mutual parting sell. Ainge gets his, "We would like to thank Brad, but it has been agreed to by both parties that it is time to move on ," soundbite. Celtics end up with a $0 loss on the remaining contract. Stevens gets to not have lied about "quiting" as Celtics coach and make the move that adds tons of job and financial security, along with all different angles of improved quality of life. -

But it wouldn't be a Celtics flight BS would be taking with anything related to IU. -
Doesn't matter if he isn't part of the league. Wink, wink.
