As a Bears fan and IU basketball fan I could really use someone to rise up to former glory, decades of suckage is wearing on me.

I have been relatively disengaged from IU basketball for years now. Year in and year out, I tried to tune in early but saw where the season was headed and couldn't do it. I got to were I wouldn't even know I was missing a game until my son at UF would text me about the score. Now I have to deal with CMW, Dane Fife, and this collection of portal returns and transfers. I was almost out!!! Now I have been sucked back in and have a renewed excitement I haven't felt since the Knight years. In my minds eye I can remember watching the 1987 championship as a freshman at a frat house and then a drunken run to Showalter Fountain, where the fish went missing for days. CMW was not my first choice, and maybe it is me trying to rationalize, but I, with the coaching hires/retentions and the players, see no way it could have started better. Damn you, Coach Mike Woodson!!!!!!!!

I see no reason to act like a spurned 16 yr that got told by his prom ask that she would have to think about it. Let Armaan take the time he needs, just don't hold a spot. If CMW finds a guy that fits his position fine, fill it, but if no one of quality elects to fill that roll, I am not going to begrudge AF for making sure he is at the right fit to finish his last 2 seasons of college basketball. The sour taste of 2 seasons of being shackled to CAM's offense may be easier to wash out of one's mouth by some than others.

Not a single state offers the natural diversity of California. I don't want to live there, not a fan of a lot of the human aspects, fan of some, but to say it isn't the most bio diverse, outdoor adventure providing state in the USA, and by leaps and bounds, is just false. Name another state with a rainforest, deserts, ski resorts, world class surfing, hiking, and wine country. And ask the people of Texas about electrical blackouts, the people of Chicago about murder, or FL about homelessness. I'm done, back to asst coaches.

You have clearly never been to California. Not that I would live there, but no where in this country offers more natural beauty and outdoor activity. I know a guy that literally went skiing, hit a skateboard park, and caught a few waves surfing all in the same day. If you could provide me with the location to Half Dome East, or Iowa National Sequoia, or maybe just some great FL tidal pools to explore starfish, anemones, crabs, sea lions, and sea otters, I would really appreciate it.

Not advocating for him as a coach but imagine AJ Moye and Dane Fife. No team would ever come into AH and have their guards out hustle and tough IU guards again. Two of my all time favorites.

More due to IU fans being stalker

That would be an awful decision to guarantee a guy the HC position before ever having coach in your building or with your team. Nothing would make me happier as an IU fan than for Fife to continue to blossom and seamlessly take over for a successfully retiring CMW, but to guarantee it 5-10 yrs in advance would be a horrible decision and one I highly doubt SD made.

So let's say IU turns it around the next three years. Which situation best serves IU, say, 5 yrs later. a)Fife stays as asst coach. b) Fife gets a job at somewhere like Iowa St or ODU and hones his HC craft before returning to IU?

As of now this has broke perfect for IU. Al Durham, love him as a guy, but had peaked at mediocre. TJD, nothing need be said. KL and JG are huge upside guys coming back. AF is a plus return if it happens. Race,by eligibility and ability, next to Durham, is the least impactful. Replace Durham with X Johnson and get Armaan back and the portal period will have been a plus for IU. Add Brooks for Race and...oh my.

Xavier Johnson, AF, and Brooks would be systematically ideal. I am torn on Race, I love him as a Hoosier, but think his roll would be diminished if he returns.

He isn't saying that the move isn't "great" but that Dane isn't a "Hoosier GREAT," as he orginally says. So he is still being a dik, just a dik about Dane, not the hire.
