How so? They are going to hire someone with the idea and intent that he is better than the worst coach at IU in 50 years, not a high bar to surpass. What makes picking a guy next year any better than this year? The only difference is saving a donor $7M, which they felt was better spent on buying Miller out than seeing another year of CAM basketball. Oh, and I would like to sincerely thank that Donor.

I think the problem lies in that I doubt any of these candidates would bring it up with an AD while on a tournament run. I think you let your agent work things out, then after the season ends for you, you either announce your departure or take the offer to your current AD to secure a raise. So , any deal could go south before it is actually announced and then SD could be on to option #3+. Funny thing is Mike Davis did stump for a raise, complaining about his pay at a tourney presser just a year after being given the job. I thought it was in very poor taste, but it worked out for him, as he shortly after showed how bad of a coach he really was, but had already locked himself in for 4 more yrs.

at 67-58, 12-15 last season and 9th, 10th, and 10th finishes in the B1G the last 3 years, I think you do make a move just for the sake of making a move.

That deal would be done and announced. If an asst coach gets a huge HC gig: 1) it isn't beyond SOP to announce and continue to asst until seasons end. 2) it also wouldn't be wrong to just step down for a huge promotion and pay raise. 3) as a 1st time HC it would be crucial to keep current players, so either #1 or #2 would have already happened. If any asst coach, NCAA or NBA, or other available coach ends up with the job it will be strictly because the currently unavailable target says no.

Izzo was hired as an up and comer and has won or shared 3 of the last 4 B1G titles. Not sure how he doesn't count. Too successful for too long? Throw in Thad Matta and Matt Painter.

Well let's see Tom Izzo Chris Holtzman Juwan Howard

Candidate Thread: Chris Beard (Texas Tech)
iu eyedoc replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Chris Beard announces his resignation from TT and that he is heading home to Texas in 3...2...1. Told his buy out drops by $1M in 5 days, the University of Texas scoffs and asks for you to hold it's beer. -
Candidate Thread: Brad Stevens (Boston Celtics)

Oddly similar as him to the Hoosiers. -

My two favorite teams Chicago Bears and IU basketball. Bears fans still think they are getting Russell Wilson IU fans still think they are getting Brad Stevens. Not sure which group is in greater denial. Just looked Vegas has it at: IU fans +700 Bears fans +550 -
If you ask Musselman he will bring a line of bricks and 3 cardboard cutouts of Indycars to explain it to you.
-
#3 is definitely one of the visuals Musselman uses with his player. "Hey...Hey...Bring that mawnkey on a dawg op here. Fellas, we gotta ride this dawg for 40 minute. Just like this cute mawnkey is riding this dawg. Do you see that."

Funny how everyone saying Woodson is not relevant to today's players as a current NBA asst and recent former HC of 25 yrs, think CC would, as a 50 year old as of this summer, 2 yr NBA G league asst, never HC and a cadre of older players that would be just as active for Woodson is somehow a better option.

I am an actual family member of someone with a beard and she denies any knowledge of communication between him and SD. Plus she is married to a huge muscleman and he knows about as much about basketball as my lab retriever. So the internet is a huge crapshoot.
-
His buyout drops 500K on April1st. Imagine the bipolar nature of BTB's if Beard were announced on April Fools Day.
-
Or maybe all of the above, just wait until the trade deadline or maybe Saturday.
-
Maybe he just doesn't want to sign Beilein too early in the off season, no reason to risk paying a death benefit before he even sets foot on campus.
-
I heard the Bloomington to White Plains, NY flight is poppin'.
-
I've been told that a sub.640 NBA winning percentage is a sure sign of college coaching failure.
-
Why are they better?
-
That is just nonsense logic. In 2018-19, the last regular NCAA season 17 of the top 25 had .800 or better winning percentages, NBA teams...0. Comparing theNCAA to NBA numbers on any level is just stupid. Brad Stevens career winning percentage in the NBA? .564 Why did we want that bum leading IU to 17-13 every year? Dodged a bullet there. Just look at the numbers before and after he was with both teams. He was the high water mark for both of those teams with the core rosters he had. And you have it backwards, if he had gone to Penn St or UVA, he wouldn't be interested in this recent sinkhole of a college coaching job, the whole reason an accomplished NBA coach is even interested in the job is his ties and love of the university. And again, who gives a isht about his recognizability as a former IU player. If you don't think him walking in a recruits home and mentioning how he reminds him of his former players Carmelo Anthony, Blake Griffin or Chris Paul your delusional. I am not arguing he is the grand prize, but he also isn't the flaming bag of cr@p some of you are making him out to be.
-
The consolation to hiring Woodson will be watching some of you completely lose your isht.
-
I bet players don't remember him from his playing days at Maranatha Baptist University either. How will he ever recruit.
-
Tom Allen is 24-25 as a HC, he can't even produce a winning percentage with the top 5% of high school football players in the world and has never won a B1G championship or a bowl game, why did he get an extension? His resume doesn't stick out at all. Hey look, I can do it too!!
-
I would counter that, being 63 only matters if he is good, and if so, I take 10 years of a good coach at IU any day of the week. Beyond J Howard, what successful coach right now recruits, at all, by his player past? And other than a few pie in the sky candidates, translation to the current NCAA athlete is a complete unknown. Recruiting is his biggest unknown and 2 time NBA HC and 25 yrs of NBA coaching is never a negative and a recruits biggest advisers, mom and dad likely do know who Woodson is. If you are waiting on Stevens, Few, Bennett,Beard, you are likely going to be standing at the alter alone for a very long time.
