This is kinda sad to read. And boy, does it sure hit close to home. My dad passed from Alzheimer's -- it's been almost two years now -- and he had struggles very similar to this. We have a family reunion in central Indiana every year and one year, while I drove in from Virginia with my dog, my brother, mom and dad drove down from NW Indiana. When we all left, my dad rode back to NW Indiana with my dog and me. At one point, I looked in the back seat and said to my dog, "You doing OK, girl?" ... My dad said, "Oh, I forgot she was back there; she's so quiet. Such a good dog. ... I wish we had a dog." ... I said, "Dad, you do have a dog. You've had him for 4 years now." ... My dad said, "Oh yeah, that's right. See -- I forget this stuff. I'm so stupid about that." ... Luckily, it was dark -- I didn't want my dad to see that my eyes were getting moist. https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/2019/04/04/iu-basketball-coach-bob-knight-witty-but-struggles-memory-speaking-appearance/3359396002/

Reading about his thumb injury makes me realize even more what a whiny fusspot Izzo is. I only ever heard mention of Romeo's' hand a couple times on TV and to be honest, never remember reading about it. And neither he nor Archie never brought it up. And both times we beat Sparty, Izzo started right up at the post-game presser, making excuses about injuries. I have a hard time imagining there was a team out there that dealt with more injuries than we did. On top of all the other crap that went on with Rob and Jerome and Devonte and De'Ron and Race and McBob, our best player had a torn ligament in his shooting hand most of the season -- and yet Archie never once used that as an excuse. I'm tossing any B1G loyalties out the window this weekend and I have three words for you: Go Red Raiders! -
Here he is on the Dan Patrick show (referenced above) talking about his fractured relationship with Knight. After listening to it, though, I'm still not sure what happened. He kinda talked a lot without saying much (in my opinion). One thing that's ironic, though: He said Knight promised him that he'd eventually be IU's head coach. My fear at the turn of the century (after Dakich left) was that Knight was gonna pull what he eventually did at Texas Tech. Had he outlasted the zero tolerance thing, I could see him, in about 2004 or '05, saying "OK, I'm stepping down. Pat's taking over." ... Man, that would've been ugly.

This had kinda been reported, but was made official today: Sampson staying at Houston, gets contract extension through 2024-25. I don't know his reasoning, but here's my guess: The guy is 63, he's been there for five seasons, they play in the AAC (easier than the SEC) and he's ready to make this his final stop. Why start over again at Arkansas? If he were 53, however, I bet he'd do it. (Plus, he didn't want to make that trip to B-town next season! LOL!) https://www.chron.com/sports/cougars/article/Source-UH-Kelvin-Sampson-reach-agreement-contract-13741236.php

It's probably not gonna change much at Jake's next stop, either ... I think his dad played for John Chaney at Temple, so he probably he thinks he knows everything about everything when it comes to hoops. -

Forrester's dad actually called out Justin -- and Evan. ... Jake's dad has been a pretty vocal (via Twitter) critic of Archie, etc. -
The worst-kept secret since A&M fired its coach has become official: Buzz Williams to College Station.

Just curious: If his family's financial situation were more stable, do you think he'd stay another year? Or would it matter? -

Coaching is as much about relationships as it is about Xs and Os and strategy and film sessions and preparation. This is just my own speculation, but Archie doesn't seem as if he's the kind of guy who will build strong, lasting relationships with players. He seems very Tom Landry-like. Perhaps somebody with more insight into the program would know more, but Archie just seems to be the type who wants to coach practices, coach film sessions, coach games and be done with it -- and not necessarily get close with his players. Crean was kinda goofy, but it seemed as if, for the most part, he had a pretty good relationship with his players. He loved them; they loved him ... I remember in "Miracle," Kurt Russell (Herb Brooks) said: "I'll be your coach, but I won't be your friend." ... Again, just my opinion, but I think in this day and age, you have to be more. Not necessarily a friend, but someone with whom you can build a relationship. Archie just seems very business-like and distant. Maybe it's the players -- and when Archie gets all his own guys in there, that'll change. Not sure. But it does seem like something's missing in that respect. -

I just finished reading this 2 min. ago and was gonna post it. You beat me to it by a minute. Agree w/ you -- very interesting story. I absolutely cannot fathom growing up without my mom. Makes he have a little different appreciation for Devonte. -
Kelvin Sampson might be a pig, but apparently, he won't be a Hog ... Had he gone to Arkansas, it would've been interesting to see if they bought their way out of their game in the Hall next season.

First, it was John Thompson III. Then it was Johnny Dawkins. Now, it's Jerry Stackhouse??? He's only been a coach for 4-5 years -- and a head coach for one.

After John Calipari signs that lifetime contract with UK, flash forward 35 years. Here's Cal getting ready for the 2054 season.

Any chance it could've been Brunk's brother -- if he has one -- who tagged along on the visit? -
I grew up in Indiana and went to IU, but have lived in Virginia for the past 17 years. So like it or not, I get my share of Virginia Tech and U.Va. coverage, and I must admit, if this is true, I'll miss Buzz a bit. He's an entertaining fellow. ... Believe it or not, one twitter thread I saw mentioned Chris Collins as a replacement. Another said Mick Cronin (that's probably more likely, I would guess).

Whether you love or hate Michigan State, this is pretty cool. ... Can't wait to see Assembly Hall filled to welcome Archie and the boys back at 12:30 a.m. after we win a region final ...

Wow! Jeff GoodmanVerified account @GoodmanHoops 5 min. hour ago More Sources telling me 5-star freshman swingman Romeo Langford has told Indiana's coaches that after deep discussions with family and others close to him, he will return to Bloomington for his sophomore season. BTW, you all know what today is, right? ... This is completely and totally fabricated ... Don't hate. Appreciate. ... Especially since none of you thought of it first! -
MSU wins the regional, yet went 0-2 against us. That means we definitely were a Final Four-caliber team! LOL!
-
To me, seeing Auburn play UK for a trip to the Final Four is like seeing Isis against Al Qaeda. Both Pearl and Calipari are such sleazeballs.
-
Painter was at PU the same time I was at IU. ... I hadn't heard that story, but I do recall hearing that Painter grew up a pretty big IU fan. ... I remember watching Painter play at PU. He was smart, tough and a pretty decent shooter -- he was just painfully slow and lacked quickness.
-
As much as I can't stand the PUs, I have to admit: Painter seems like a pretty good dude. And Bennett's top-notch, too. So we go from all class tonight to all trash (Pearl, Calipari) tomorrow.
