(2021) PF Trey Kaufman to Purdue
HoosierFan1994 replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Peegsters are going crazy because Rabby or Snow have not said a word on it yet. They think it's a good thing. -
Mike Schumann reporting Damezi Anderson has entered the transfer portal. EDIT-he has now deleted the tweet. Rumor is a player is transferring from IU today via IndianaHQ. Also rumblings of a 2021 commit today on Peegs.

I am sorry for anyone that I have offended. He could start for the 9-22 Troy Trojans.
-
Sorry, I just don't see it with him. He's had a few good games against a 9-22 Troy like team...He is 15 for 65 shooting 3's at IU. That's a sad reputation if he's known for a shooter. I hope I am wrong. I'd love to see him turn into a Matt Roth like 3 point shooter.
-
I think the reason Damezi isn't transferring is because nobody really wants him. I'm being honest, I'm not sure he would've even started for the Evansville Aces this last year. I was off on him too. I thought he would be a decent role player.

2021 General Recruiting Thread
HoosierFan1994 replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
You bring up a really good point that I didn't think of. -
Keion Brooks announced he was returning to Kentucky and not...wait for it...going pro. LOL, did he really think he had a chance of getting drafted? Look, I am all for kids wanting to live out their dream of going pro. But he averaged less than 5 points a game. He needs to focus on becoming a better college player right now.

Wow..Matt Haarms is transferring from Purdue.
-
I'm forced to watch all the UK games (fiance is a UK fan) but they were far from forgettable this year. Yes, they did lose to Evansville which was awesome. But if you take that away they had a nice season. They had a very good shot at making the final four. If Richards and/or Quickley return they will be your preseason #1.
-
Wow...they have no depth at all for next year. Not a strong class coming in either.

Early BIG Projections (2020-21)
HoosierFan1994 replied to IUc2016's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Me too. This drops OSU quite a bit for me. They will be solid but not a major player in the Big Ten race. -
Holy crap. This is about as crazy as Tiger King..."He would force everyone with the program — including radio and TV broadcasters — participate in layup lines at the start of practice. Anyone that missed a shot at to run the stadium stairs."

What was your first/earliest memory of...

Beating Duke in the 2002 Sweet 16. I remember watching it with my dad in the living room going nuts. That whole run was fun. I know where I was for every game. -
I've done this the last two years where I look back on the season and the players. I'd say this season was what I expected. Highs and lows. Am I 100% convinced Archie is the guy? No, but I like the progress-although slow. He is killing the in-state recruiting. IF the tournament would have happened, IU probably would have lost either in the first or second round. Here is what I think for the players: Seniors Devonte- I feel bad for him. He deserved to play in the tournament. He had ups and downs for sure. He didn't live up to my preseason All-Big Ten pick but he was a solid player. I bet he gets looks for the NBA and will play overseas. De'Ron- Another player I feel awful for. Injuries hurt his career. He too deserved to play in the tournament. He sounds like a great student and has a very bright future. Maybe we will hear him call an IU game one day. Juniors Justin- He improved a lot this year. However, he still needs to be more consistent. I remember hearing about Archie chewing him out sometime in January/February. I hope he has a massive senior year. I still like him at the 4 spot instead of the 3. He has All-Big Ten and NBA 2nd round potential next year if he puts it all together. Al- Like Justin he improved. I still think he plays too much at this level. I don't think Al can be your top guard. I hope he improves as a three point shooter. I too remember hearing he was causing issues in the locker room and at practice so I hope he turned things around. Joey- Glad to have him as a Hoosier. I don't think he is a starter but he should be in a nice role off the bench to provide depth. I think he is the kind of kid that's going to get better next year. Sophomores Rob- I expect him to have the kind of year next year that many of you expected this year. I keep saying this-Rob was not an elite recruit/athlete. He's actually exceeded my expectations his first two years in Bloomington. I think he and Lander will be one heck of a duo in the backcourt. Race- Man what a season for him. If he improves his conditioning and stays healthy he should start!! I see a little bit of Juwan in him. If he can extend his game past the three point line watch out. Damezi- Sounds like he is all but gone. Archie really missed on this one. IF he was the player they thought we was, he would've played more these last two years. Wish him luck in whatever happens. Freshmen TJD- Our best player. He reminds me a little of Jared Jeffries. He may be a front runner for B1G POY and our first All-American since Yogi. I think if he has that type of year, he probably is gone after next year. I hope he adds some strength over the off season. Too many times he couldn't finish at the rim. I could see him scoring 18-20 a game. I could very well see him ending up as one of the all-time great IU players. Jerome- Jerome is a crucial piece for us. If he can play starter like minutes these next few years, IU is going to be pretty darn good. I love his game. I could see him in the NBA in a few years if things go his way. Armaan- Like Jerome, a crucial piece for us. IU needs him to provide good minutes off the bench next year. I could see him being a starter his junior and senior year. If he plays the way he played at Bankers Life, we've got a really good one. In-Coming With Covid-19, I think this pretty much assures Lander is going to be at IU next year. I feel awful that he along with Leal and Galloway couldn't finish their final year. Lander will play big minutes for us. I could see him getting around 9 pts and 3 ast. I do think he is going to help regardless. The good thing is IU doesn't need for their freshmen to play major roles like the last few years. They have experience coming back. Line Up-things can change. This is what I think we will see: Starters: Lander, Phinisee, Durham, Smith, TJD Bench: Brunk, Hunter, Franklin, Thompson, Leal I would like to see this lineup: Starters: Lander, Phinisee, Hunter, Thompson, TJD-IF all these players are on the roster in 2021-2022 I think this is a National Championship caliber lineup. Bench: Smith, Durham, Brunk, Franklin, Leal

This is going to be a strange draft..

Early BIG Projections (2020-21)
HoosierFan1994 replied to IUc2016's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If Reuvers or Potter take their game to the next level they will be very good. I do think it's possible IU will be a contender next year. Depending on what happens with everything going on, I think experienced teams will be at a huge advantage next year. New players won't be able to come in and get acclimated to their team and system. IU returns 8 of their top 10 guys. It would hurt Lander, Leal, Galloway, and Geronimo a little bit. -
Early BIG Projections (2020-21)
HoosierFan1994 replied to IUc2016's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
My thoughts on the conference next year... Wisconsin is going to be Final Four good. They return pretty much all of their key players. Reuvers/Trice/Potter are going to be really tough along with the Davison kid. They also have a top 15 class coming in. Michigan State will take a step back I think. They get the Hauser kid but they'll lose Cassius and probably Tillman. Aaron Henry will have to make a jump for them. Maryland will struggle next year. Smith will go pro and Cowan is gone. I don't like Turgeon as a coach. I think they'll lack frontcourt size and that's a recipe for disaster in the Big Ten. Illinois is a big wild card. IF they keep Ayo they are probably top 15, maybe top 10 good. I think he should stay (don't want him to) so I'll keep him on their roster. Cockburn had a nice freshman year. He will get better. On paper they have the #2 2020 class in the Big Ten coming in. That will help. Iowa will be top ten good if they can keep Garza-which I will project they will. The get Bohannon back. Fredrick and Wieskamp had good seasons. Depth will be an issue I think. I don't trust Fran either. Penn State will fall back to the pack. They lose some really good, all-time great program players. Feel awful they didn't get to experience the tournament. Ohio State will be top 15 maybe top 10 good if they return Kaleb Wesson. I'll project he stays. Not a good look for Holtmann to lose two of his top 2019 recruits due to transfer. They did get a nice grad transfer from the Ivy League. Rutgers, like Penn State, I feel for. The best team they had in years and they don't get to experience the tournament. Thankfully Harper and Baker should be back. Pikiell has them going in the right direction. Should be a top 25 team to start the year. Michigan really underachieved this year. They started the season strong then struggled. Picked it up towards February and then struggled the rest of the way. Howard has a top 5 class coming in with some returning talent. They lose Simpson and Teske-maybe their two best players. We will see how good of a coach Howard is next year. They'll have talent. Purdue was disappointing this year. None of their guys got better. I honestly don't see them being that good next year. Indiana returns TJD and two three year starters in Justin Smith and Al Durham. Phinisee is a two year starter as well. Most likely will get Lander as well. Return depth with Brunk, Franklin, Hunter, and Thompson. Like Michigan-we will really see how good of a coach Archie is. The talent is sure there. Minnesota, Northwestern, and Nebraska will be towards the bottom of the conference next year. Collins and Pitino are on the hot seat. Give Hoiberg another year and Nebraska will be solid. Some big decisions to wait on that will impact the Big Ten: Dosunmu, Garza, Todd (heard he could go pro), Wesson, Lander, Tillman Way Too Early Big Ten Picks 1. Wisconsin- Final Four Good 2. Illinois- Top Ten good if Dosunmu comes back 3. Iowa- Top Ten good if Garza returns 4. Michigan- Sweet 16/Rd of 32 5. Ohio State- Sweet 16/Rd of 32 6. Indiana- Rd of 32 7. Rutgers- Rd of 32 8. Michigan State- Rd of 64; this is the beginning of the end for Izzo I think. I think they relied too much on Winston this year. Without him and even Tillman they aren't that good. 9. Purdue- Rd of 64 10. Maryland- NIT 11. Penn State- NIT 12. Minnesota 13. Nebraska 14. Northwestern If Dosunmu, Garza, Tillman, and Wesson all leave, IU could very well be a top 3-4 team next year in the conference. -
If Garza leaves Trayce may be the best big man in the conference. I do disagree about Lander. I get he is a guard but I remember people thinking Trayce wouldn't even start in year 1. Even in the 2020 class Lander is a top 25 prospect. If Phinisee/Durham become more consistent and if Jerome/Franklin really improve I like this team a lot.

I hear you, but the Big Ten was awful in 2018. It has been very good the last two years.

2020 What If NCAA Tournament
HoosierFan1994 replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I did a bracket based off the info from the Bracket Matrix. I had the following: Midwest: Kansas over Michigan State West: Gonzaga over Maryland South: Florida State over Wisconsin East: Louisville over Villanova Final Four: Gonzaga over Florida State; Kansas over Louisville National Championship: Kansas over Gonzaga I had IU as a 10 seed in the East regional losing to #7 Virginia in Albany. -
I was there. My hand was purple from waiting in line.

I think the NBA will resume in a month. Baseball too. Hopefully...
