Corruption in College Basketball

Never going to happen! According to the feds, they are the victims. They can sue Adidas and the felons for damages. -

Clearly, the real rules are there are no rules for the majors that have $$. It’s just a cost of doing business now to fight anything that comes up. This is business, and the market moves fast to adjust to competitive status quo. -

Legal minds - pls explain how it is that all of the stuff above is being denied to be submitted into evidence? Seems like it cripples the defenses strongest arguments that the coaches/schools knew and were complicit. -

Your legal analysis is always astute and greatly appreciated! Befuddles me that the fed case is built on the argument that the universities were defrauded and victims. In addition to dumping on the coaches and arguing they all knew and encouraged $$$ and that universities were complicit w not caring about NCAA reg compliance, I would pull financials to show what big business this is, especially for schools who land the paid for recruits and pay to play. Think it would all be pretty compelling case in favor of Gatto/Code/Dawkins’ defense. I understood feds to only prosecute, especially something with this level of public notoriety, if they have slam dunk. If their case is based on proving schools were defrauded, it doesn’t seem that strong. Interested in your thoughts/further projections on which way this will roll. -

Myers seems like a good kid who did a lot coming from a tough situation. Always enjoyed the Cody/Myers head to head!

Wow! Here’s a new one. Looks like Uncle Izzo has picked some real winners on his staff... https://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/local/michigan/2018/08/30/todd-moyer-michigan-state-strength-coach-sentencing/37665783/

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.freep.com/amp/1143441002 All good! Nothing we should worry about happened at MSU. Add MSU to the list of schools with enough political influence to make huge moral corruption issues of no signicance to the NCAA. I know, not in NCAA’s monitoring purview. It only regulates trivial issues like extra calls and bumperstickers, and maybe $$$ - still waiting to see there.

What about being accountable for choosing the standards of personal character you select for your staff who will be around and have significant influence on young men? Acceptance = no change.

Yep! That’s the real world. Enough protecting coaching royalty who get paid millions - when they ignore or fail to act, and often bury team level crimes/transgressions that hugely impact victims lives - all in order to win. That’s part of the package of accepting the role of coach/leader,etc. I respect the schools that have the integrity to take action - proponderance of evidence or not- and let the legal process play out win or lose. Far too many examples of otherwise - Izzo, Pitino, Paterno, Dantnio, Baylor, the OSU wrestling coaches, on and on. No actions = no changes. Meyer’s wife and all the coaching wives knew...they all knew too! Sunlight is the best disinfectant.

Right...but the shameless self serving scumbag has no problem whatsoever dragging the L family into the discussion now in order to further his own interest. They were never anything but on board and loyal to him and U of L until Big Dickey’s sht finally exploded his program making it no longer a viable option. Not that there was ever any question about his lack of character based on his entire history and multiple egregious actions from the past. But, sheesh - have an ounce of dignity, take your multi-millions, crawl into a hole and leave it, along with unsuspecting kids and their families, alone. -

I would interpret this the exact opposite... this is part of big dicky’s legal strategy/scripted in conjunction with his legal team. He wants to create grey area moral equivalency between what adidas did in paying direct cash to Bowen - and those Gatto calls he can’t really recall the topic on, but believes they were probably related to Rozier’s contract renewal not Bowen who committed the next day or so— to adidas paying aau teams, specifically Langford’s. Interesting how sharp the details of the calls and discussions he remembers on the latter stuff but not the former. He’s not only legally battling U of L, but also adidas and obviously the potential of the feds too. This is also a signal to adidas to settle BIG or his selective memory will become very crisp - and put the weight of blame on them. Also to public opinion - blur the emotion - everyone gets paid, what’s the difference how dads aau programs v dads direct getting $$. (Moral equivalency). It’s also a lil box of sht/fu back to IU who’s alum exposed him in the player prostitute scandal. -
But wait, what about his indelible commitment to helping the victims and community heal?

ANCHORS DOWN, WAY DOWN! -
Nor is it nearly as crazy as institutional support of 18 years of fake classes for athletes without even a slap on the wrist from the NCAA. If I was The OSU administration, I would send a presser with a smiley face and poop emoji and just play the two and totally ignore it. What a complete joke the NCAA is!

How’s Uncle Izzo doing with his steadfast commitment to help the victims and community heal? Can you imagine as a parent thinking...yeah, I want to send my kid to that in environment? And great! Glad I can help out with some extra funds to help them get past the Nasser issue. Sign us up!!

Then let they’ll let them pick a few pre-season cupcake games to sit the coach. Finally, if the offense they committed was really egregious, the NCAA will let them choose the year they’d like to be tourney ineligible. (ie. one they had no chance to make it or do well anyway). Oh yeah, and another blue ribbon commission to tell everyone that it’s all good now, nothing to worry about in major college sports. -
