    They Fired Tom Allen!

That's cool man. I really enjoyed those two seasons. They were beating teams that good teams are supposed to beat. Getting national attention. The defense was ranked in the top 20! It's a rarity for IUFB to accomplish that kind of stuff. For me, it was cloud nine seeing offenses struggle against the blitz packages etc. etc.. I really enjoyed Justin Fields getting exposed for his inability to handle the various types of blitz packages we threw at him. Cloud nine stuff for me, man. Cloud nine. But all of that doesn't matter because here we are in a thread titled Fire Tom Allen. Personally, I would have liked to see him succeed even more than he already did but I also know the overall history of the program. I also feel your frustrations with him. His loyalty to a coach drove me nuts! Because it ultimately might be the reason he's terminated. I am ok with whatever decision is made regarding his future. Honestly, I am.

    They Fired Tom Allen!

Well, I'm glad you were at least entertained during the time IUFB won 8 games one year and finished ranked 16th overall in the country the other. That's all I was asking in the grand scheme of things. Regarding your ranking screenshots, football is a team game. What you're showing me is that BL and KW weren't balanced compared to TA. I'll say it again, CTA's winning record is better than the other two coaches you brought up here. But I certainly understand your preference with an offensive coach calling the shots.

THIS^^^^^^ I was more upset with #2's behavior during that game. The dude is a really good football player and his antics really weren't level headed. Heisman candidate to boot.

^Response to the question if #12 catches the overthrown ball (that you agree was overthrown) where does the safety end up. I'm confused. Because you imply the safety was pursing the ball, not the player, by your response to my question. I don't think anyone on here is saying he wasn't trying to make a hit. Quite the contrary actually. A lot of us just don't think it wasn't as bad as everyone is making out to be. Especially calling for a suspension of the player. We agree to disagree. Enjoy your night mate.

So, if the safety played to the ball, which we both agree he did, perhaps #12 letting up after the QB failed on the throw actually makes it looks worse than it was?

So you didn't enjoy watching the best offenses CTA ever had? I'm confused. Because you say that you prefer offensive type games. I would think you enjoyed those two years at least.

If the receiver actually catches the ball where it was thrown where does the safety end up?

Was the ball overthrown and did #12 slow up due to the ball being overthrown? Is the safety pursuing where the ball is going? After looking at this over and over, it's incredibly maddening that the QB even threw the ball in that direction. He's lucky the ball wasn't picked. All of this falls directly in the hands of the QB. Completely his fault from start to finish. Which resulted in injuring one of his most important players on the team. Also had the ball been placed in the basket, the safety might of not even gotten a hit on him. Because he looks like he might of been a tad bit late on the catch, if that even would have happened. But he was covered like a blanket so the catch probably doesn't happen, especially with the safety rolling in for help. Could the safety let up and try to avoid the hit? Probably. Hence the flag thrown. But there was nothing outrageously dirty about that hit. Like I said, these types of hits happen a lot and most of them don't get flags thrown.

Personally, I don't think it was dirty. Had #2 placed the ball in the basket we aren't talking about it. The pursuit was well timed, especially if #12 doesn't slow up. Most importantly, #12 was covered like a blanket and trying to throw into that coverage is ballsy. It didn't work and letting up on the play got him injured.

These hits happen a lot more then folks know. Safety had zero intentions going for the ball and every intention in either breaking up the catch or just flat out putting down the hammer. I know the mindset, I played the position. Since it was a rivalry game, putting down the hammer was probably #11's first and only option. LOL! His pursuit wasn't anything out of the ordinary and the hit was actually well timed, especially if #12 catches it. #2 overthrew the ball which makes the hit look like a cheap shot. Personally, I blame #2 for that hit and I find it kind of ironic that he ran down the field to start poop with the safety because it was his own mistake that caused the hit. Had this been any other game other than the current hype we aren't talking about it.

    They Fired Tom Allen!

Keep in mind, Tom Allen came in and vastly improved the defense to help give you some of those feelings you're talking about. I never felt like IUFB was ever in a game until Allen became the DC. Did you enjoy the games when Kalen DeBoer was the OC and Penix was healthy?

    They Fired Tom Allen!

That makes me understand you're point of view a lot more. Appreciate your response. Sounds like your wanting an offensive minded HC running the program. I'm just the opposite, I prefer a defensive mind, but that's just me. I enjoyed watching the later part of the KW era as well. It seemed like he was moving the program in the right direction. And those last two years you are talking about, his DC was Tom Allen. All those close games you're talking about was because of a defense that was able to make a stop here or there to keep them in the game. We were going to get our points, that was for sure. But I digress. Also, it sounds like you're open to instability of the job in general, just so long as the IU AD makes the next hire worth a darn. But regardless, playing in a worthwhile bowl is the overall expectation? Or have you changed on just playing in a bowl game? Or you don't really care about bowls, you just want to see a lights out offense on the field? Keep in mind, in the 136 year history, IUFB has reached a bowl only 13 times.

    They Fired Tom Allen!

So your expectations for IUFB is bowl eligibility every year? And if this year's IUFB team goes bowling and wins said bowl; those advocating the termination of CTA still want him gone? Follow up questions, if you still think he should go, what are your expectations for IUFB? If you think he shouldn't go, is it as simple as bowl or bust for you? Keep in mind this program has only been bowling 13 times in 136 years.

Andre Carter is playing one heck of a season so far. I'd surprised if he's not playing Sundays. So far, the transfer portal has been good to us in that aspect.

Thanks for sharing. Appreciate it. So a bowl qualification for only the fourteenth time (four of those being coached by CTA - 30.7% of IUFBs total bowl count) and winning only its fourth in IUFBs 136 year history would still want you to remove a coach that actually accomplished this for the program. Read that sentence again. I'm not clear on your expectations for IUFB but I'm under the assumption based on your response that your expectations is maybe something like an Iowa; where bowl appearances, winning more than 7 games is a consistency, every now and then top 20 rankings and in a conference championship race? If that's the case, that has never happened under any coach throughout IUFB's entire 136 years of existence. Read that last sentence again. The winningest coach in program history, Bob McMillin, had 7 winning seasons out of 14 and was not consistent. Those 7 win seasons were ebb and flow and spread out throughout his career. If it's just you want a team that 'plays consistent, competitive, smart, and fun to watch' than I've got nothing for ya because all of that is completely subjective. For example, I think this season alone IUFB has played consistent, competitive, smart, and I have enjoyed watching them. Personally, I don't think that's a valid reason to terminate CTA. But that's just me. I mean the most consistent thing IUFB has been the last 6 years is having a head coach with bowl appearances multiple times. I get it though. All of us probably get it. All of us want a coach that will come in and create something magical that we've never had in 136 years. But a coach that does that will not coach here for 4 years yet alone 14 years. A coach that accomplishes bowl consistency here at IUFB is getting hired somewhere else because that coach will not stay at a historically bad school like IUFB. That's just the way it is, unfortunately. Unless. Unless, of course there's a coach that considers IUFB a dream job. EDIT: IUFB has 13 total bowl appearances. Making corrections to stats regarding bowl games.

Not that any of this matters but Coach Prime was also a high school coach with zero experience coaching at the college level when he got hired at Jackson State. To this day, he still has less college coaching experience than CTA. I'm just pointing that out because personally, I don't think it matters if someone coached high school football. What matters is what kind of other coaches you surround yourself with and how you manage your staff. X's and O's don't change at any level. Just my two cents.

Thanks for sharing and there's a lot to unpack here. I don't want to discuss the specifics of that OSU game because I don't think it's really necessary in the grand scheme of things. I'll just say that I don't agree with you about his game plan. But like you said, no one can convince you and I'm certainly not going to try. I'd rather discuss the bigger picture if that makes sense. You're definitely bring up some valid points about accountability. I've already mentioned on here that his loyalty will most likely be the reason for him ultimately getting let go. That trait is something you want in a friend but when it comes to performing a job sometimes being loyal to a friend doesn't work and makes matters worse. As it did for him. Your expectations are actually pretty fair considering the history of IUFB. Is it safe to say you never liked the hire to begin with? If so, did you still feel the same way when they were ranked 11th in 2020 and had 8 wins in 2019? Basically asking if you felt the same when IUFB reached well beyond your own expectations. Like way above your ceiling. If you did like the hire, when did it change for you? Like when the wheels fell off after 2020? Again, thanks for sharing and appreciate it.

Now we're talking if we can manage to put together a full game like we played in the 2nd half of the Louisville game. Six wins will be in reach if that happens.

Folks, Meyer isn't going to coach IUFB. Nor is any big time established winning HC. It's a pipe dream to think this. This job isn't that kind of job. Nor is ARE a Coach Prime type hire. Come back down here on Earth 1 and evaluate the current and overall picture of IUFB. Serious question, if, and it's a big if, this year's IUFB team goes bowling and wins said bowl; those advocating the termination of CTA still want him gone? Follow up questions, if you still think he should go, what are your expectations for IUFB? If you think he shouldn't go, is it as simple as bowl or bust for you?

So full disclosure, I missed a good part of the ISU game due to Friday Night Lights. I did manage to see bits and pieces of it. And the D technically put up a shutout. Which is what I thought might happen. This D is good folks. We'll have a fighting chance during league play. Very encouraging stuff.

    IUFB Dropping Louisville in 2024

Not so fast my friend! We are hosting UCLA in 2024. PSU is the game that we might end up dropping to add another west coast school. I am basing this on PSU and Rutgers having the type of schedules that makes sense to shuffle around. I could be completely wrong but if my hunch is correct, PSU is a home, so the hope is to host another west coast school. Who knows. We'll see it all play out.

    IUFB Dropping Louisville in 2024

Not that you're wrong but next year's B1G schedule is pretty favorable to IUFB. And I do agree regarding regional schedule etc. etc.. If I'm being completely honest, I wish we would schedule UK and bring back the Bourbon Barrel game. However, having said all that it absolutely makes sense to do this.

If Shedeur Sanders plays like he played against TCU the remainder of the season, they will be competitive in every single game against a top 25 opponent. And he will most likely be 1 or 2 overall pick in next year's NFL draft. That's how good he played against TCU. Every defense in the nation will be extremely challenged to stop him. What's most important about him is that he doesn't throw picks and he's incredibly cerebral on the field. He's able to find the open space. A lot of his dad in him. I'll go even farther and say if Colorado played OSU instead of us last week, Colorado wins that game.

This is really encouraging. My worry is that OSU isn't as good as they think they are. But still encouraging nonetheless. Opening against a team like OSU, where they've got new personal (QB, etc. etc.), doesn't really help get a confident gauge in my opinion. We've got a gauge that we didn't get blown out like in years past but is that because they don't have a Fields/Stroud on the field. Let's hope OSU is as good as they've been the past few years. That means, IUFB is actually a really good football team. We'll get a better feel this Friday with this team.
