I can tell you beyond a doubt Crean is a very good guy at heart away from the court who has done many great things for the Bloomington community. I have personally witnessed this at least once and heard many other stories like everyone else. He certainly has issues like everyone but he cares about people more than most with his fame and ego. Let's not confuse this with his coaching and behavior on the court which at times leaves a lot to be desired. As for the IU media in my mind that would be anyone in the state of Indiana who either covers all local sports full time (guys like JMV on radio or Anthony Calhoun on TV) or specifically focus on IU (Mike Miller for the HT or Pete Diprimio for Fort Wayne Paper). I can tell you at least several of the guys who cover IU part or full time (the examples I gave above are specifically people I do NOT know or have ever talked to) have been very frustrated with lack of availability Crean has given them at times and when he does give them time he was often late. Other times he would be great and give them a lot of time but would call them in on 5 minutes notice for the interview. Their relationship was very much a tolerant but frustrating one. I have no idea how national media felt.

Anyone angry at Crean that when he was coaching us he would not give the media the time of day and now he won't get away from them? I know several people in the IU media fairly well who are great guys and I know they were beyond frustrated at the lack of access he gave them during his tenure (but I have not talked to any of them since his firing to know if this makes them more aggravated that he is talking so much now). More than anything as a fan it was very aggravating that every week in Indy you would hear Painter and Holtmann almost weekly on the local radio shows here but Crean refused to come on. Even when he would talk after games he would not always make sense. With all that said I think Crean is a good man but at times he acts a bit mysteriously and his handling of media was one of the things I will never understand.

IU owes BYU so big right now it's not even funny. Otherwise Zags would be on door step of breaking IU's 1976 record right now and we would all be on edge like never before just as 72 Dolphins were in 07 with Pats till they lost championship in last minute.

I would not touch Groce or Flint as head coaches but as assistants to have guys with that resume is really impressive and would be happy with that.

When Knights complimenting your new coach you hired you have made a good decision especially when its Indiana he is complimenting.

I highly doubt we will lose Archie unless it's to the NBA as long as he does well. Just as Smith is set for life at Arizona St if he does well, Archie is set for life here if he does. It is highly unlikely he would take another college job. That's the advantage of being a top level college job like IU is in basketball and soccer. Expectations are much higher and it's easier to get fired for bad performance but if you succeed you are almost certainly set with that coach until he retires (unlike football or baseball here where extreme success will send your coach to greener pastures).

Sorry meant .10. Something that is over legal limit but barely impairs you and you are not really a huge danger to others in that state. I'm not defending that and I won't drive with a drop of alcohol in me, but in the grander scheme of things it's minor and use to be the legal limit for many years until it was lowered. You're right if he blew a 1.0 he would be dead. My bad and I have corrected it in my post.

Could the cover up be maybe he had a small amount of Marijuana or open Alcohol or maybe even a DUI where he blew a .10 instead of a .08? I have no idea what happened but when you say 'cover up' that could mean any number of things from something somewhat minor that was dropped (but very embarrassing like the examples I gave above) but a fairly small deal overall to a full blown cover up. Also if this happened in Yuma wouldn't it be less likely for that police department to cover it up since they are not part of University of Arizona which is in Tucson? A full blown cover up would be far more likely if Archie had been stopped by university police and not in another city. It would be like if Crean got stopped for something in Muncie it would be far less likely to be covered up than if IUPD stopped him on campus. I have to assume that Glass and the search firm did their homework on whatever this was and it was not a big deal. If it was something huge it would of gotten out in the media most likely even if it had been covered up initially. Somebody always talks at some point with the truth coming out if it were major.

Here me out on this. IU baseball historically has been a mid-level program or lower (especially until Tracy Smith was here). At the first sign of success in 09 after he turned us around and took IU to NCAA tournament other programs came calling but he held out and led IU to even higher heights including the CWS. Than after a patient wait and not just taking any job he finally left for an elite job at Arizona St that had hit hard times somewhat after great historical success. Smith has since returned ASU to the tourney both years he has been there and has them well on the way to returning to elite status in my mind (although it's still a bit early). In Archie's case every major program came calling for him after turning Dayton around and taking them to the elite 8. Like Smith he held out for a few more years and took Dayton to even higher heights (yes I know he has not made it back to Elite 8 but he has built them to a much better spot within the Atlantic 10 dominating the league much like Smith did after 09). After a few more years and only wanting a top job Miller takes a job at Indiana which like Arizona St has had great historical success but fallen on hard times. Hopefully like Smith, Archie can be well on his way to building us back to our rightful status among other programs in our sport. I know this is not a perfect comparison and there may be some small differences but there are also definitely some similar parallels as well.

Ha ha ha. So far we have heard his religion is Basketball and Star Wars. I love it. Anybody have a serious answer to this. With that said I love the Jokes!

This is sort of related to Archie's press tour but I have noticed he is not bringing up god or his religious beliefs like Crean always did in his time here during any of these interview. Does anyone know if Archie is not a religious person or if he just keeps it out the public eye unlike Crean? I find this contrast fascinating between the two. I googled this and cannot find any hits on Archie being religious unlike Crean where if you type in about his religious beliefs its all over the place.

I guess Crean needed a day to get over it and reflect. Even if he's bitter at Glass (which he may very well be) he has not less that bitterness spread to other fans and co-workers unlike Knight who held everyone involved with the university in low regard after he was fired. I can tell you a certain job more or less got rid of me some years ago. I hold the one person who got rid of me in very low regard and have not talked to them since. However, I am still very grateful for my time there and overall hold no bitterness towards the company and have maintained some friendships with others to this day. This seems to be the way Crean is handling it which to me is the correct and classy way to do so unlike Knight.

And then after Knight's presser he left, sulked and has been bitter since. Not sure what you mean about Crean not showing up to get fired. I'm confused.

In all seriousness Crean has handled his firing like an adult and had a great attitude about it. Unlike Knight who decided to sulk and never set foot on campus, Crean attending the women's game and continuing to give interviews and be in the public eye in Bloomington shows what a great guy and classy person he is. I wish him well and think he will do a great job at a school with lower expectations. At this point I think Crean and Davis are more or less appreciated for their time in Bloomington even if it didn't end well and would receive a standing ovation if they ever came back to Assembly Hall. Sampson on other hand would be booed off floor.

Well so much for keeping his daughter out of the spotlight as I talked about earlier. I hope for Archie's sake he is just proud of her and is trying to get her exposure. If he did not and he never meant for this picture to go so viral I feel bad for him. It goes back to being a coaches kid and affecting your family in every way as I discussed earlier. Also I am a bit confused to her age. Now to the real important stuff I loved the shots Archie through across the bow (albeit unintentionally) at Crean by talking about having a tough non-conference schedule, playing defense and not over signing by offering anyone and everyone a scholarship. Obviously these were the 3 things fans hated about Crean so it is really nice to here Archie feels the opposite on each one! I cannot wait for Archie to get started and am excited for the future of IU basketball!

I wondered about that but even if she starts anew in the fall in Bloomington everything I said applies in terms of the pressure of being the coaches kid and how tough that could be.

My mom always worked with college students so growing up around her office and being the cute little kid to them definitely had its advantages and drawbacks. With that said I NEVER faced anything like either Crean's kids did or Archie's kid might with famous parents and I doubt anyone on this board has. Definitely what you do as a career affects your whole family in every aspect and it's something people have to remember whenever they get married and have kids.

I was just kidding and completely agree with you. Society definitely has it's dark sides (kids being unfairly treated based on who their parents are) and this is one of them

Speaking of kids and this is totally off topic but does anyone feel old that teenagers like Archie's daughter these days are born in the mid 2000's? LOL

I had no plans to look it up and did not want to stalk a little girl like that until someone disagreed with me on the age. Than I wanted to make sure I was not crazy or a terrible judge of peoples ages. I swear I am not a pedophile. LOL

With the way his kids were allegedly treated sometimes it's probably in some ways a relief for her and her whole family to leave town although I'm sure they have some friends and aspects of Btown they will really miss. Honestly, it would not be a bad idea to have Ainsley talk to Leah about what is like being the coaches kid in Bloomington to prepare her since they are very close in age (I have no idea if this will happen but it would be a good thing for both of them).

I appreciate hearing your thoughts as a parent! As I said I have not been married or had kids yet so I don't have the incite you do from that perspective.

I just looked it up and internet said she was born in 04 and name is Leah so I made a pretty good guess on her age based on the photo. Also I assume your dad was not famous when you moved so that's an apples and oranges comparison. Kids have to move and change schools all the time but few face the pressure of famous parents and no one on this board knows what that is like or has experienced that.

As I said if he wins his daughter will have no problem in school but if he doesn't things can get rough as happened to Crean's kids. Its totally unfair to coaches kids to face that and it should not be that way but it is the reality of the world we live in sadly.
