Here's the thing fair or not: IU is ultimately driven by basketball. If Archie succeeds and Allen fails everyone will be happy and everything will be good. If Allen succeeds and Archie fails people will still only be happy to a point. Glass' tenure will ultimately be judged by the success or failure of Archie. With that said doesn't mean we can't or shouldn't try to be competitive in football.

I do completely agree history means nothing and the right coach can win anywhere. Just look at our baseball program. We got the right guy in Tracy Smith (which let us make 2 more right hires when he was poached) and turned around 100 years of futility and now we are the best team in the Big Ten. The key is find the right guy whoever that is and follow it up with more good hires when/if they get poached. Butler Basketball has followed that model. With all that said not quite ready to judge Allen yet but early returns are not great so far.

There are still tons of tickets left for today (maybe 3-5K) on the IU website. Will be a larger crowd than usual for sure (45-50K) but unless there is a huge walk-up contingent this may not quite sellout like a normal OSU game. Btw last time ticket sales at this level was in 2012 when only 48K showed up and it was fall break. May see similar today.

If that is the case IU has to have the stupidest Athletic department ever in light of Andrew Luck injury. When IU is trying to build a program to outright lie about Penix's injury is the worst PR move they could make to build a fan base. Sometimes I wonder who runs the athletic department at IU and what they are thinking. If it is a major injury fine but for Allen to outright lie about it in light of Luck situation could not be more dumb when Indiana fans are already Leary of what they are being sold about injuries. Also that's fine IU was upset it got out but what was their plan if it didn't? Surely people would of figured it out when he wasn't playing Saturday. Whats the difference if it leaks Wednesday or people find out Saturday?

Interestingly Kent Sterling said he heard the injury was season ending: That's the first I have heard anyone say that and everything I have heard both through chatter and Allen is it should be minor. I hope Sterling misspoke or IU is going to be in a lot of hell with fans in light of what happened with Luck. To me though no matter what a red flag has been raised if Penix can stay healthy long term. He did nothing that should hurt your shoulder at all. If his shoulder cannot handle two games, could be a rough career in the training room.

I am going to move away from this debate about Ramsey vs. Penix and bring up another issue this might reveal. The fact that Penix already has a sore shoulder after two games may not speak well for his long term durability. Already tore his ACL last year which is completely unrelated I get, but that in light of already having a shoulder issue after such a short time doesn't necessarily speak well for staying healthy for extended periods of time over upcoming seasons.

You have been trustworthy and I completely believe you but this shows we have some pretty lackadaisical media. If he left game early and is now not practicing at least ask Tom Allen if he is injured? He may decline to say anything or fudge and say he is OK but at least hold the coaches feet to the fire and ask about this. Thats a pretty big deal if your starting QB is not practicing and the fact that no one is reporting it or breached the topic speaks pretty poorly on the IU media.

Luck picked a hell of a time to retire. The roster for the Colts is actually solid now and everything they were missing they now have with a good running back, good receivers and a decent D. This is the type of roster Manning won with and Luck could of as well and would of been a clear contender with him. Brissett is decent and this is still a 7-10 win team but he's never going to win you a Championship which Luck could of now with this roster. Also time for Vinatieri to retire or show he has not hit father time moving forward.

One warning. The combo of Internet and YoutubeTV is up to $120 a month. I know because I have it. I am not complaining and I like having my TV everywhere I go, but just be aware that these Internet Cable TV's are getting as expensive as regular cable when combined with internet.

I'm not usually the volleyball person but I do know IU won 3-1 tonight over Marshall to start the year 2-0 following the earlier win today.

(2018) SF - Jerome Hunter Transfers To Xavier
Aaron replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Twitter account is certainly credible. Brockway writes for the same papers Hutchens did and replaced him. Not sure if IU is telling the truth but reporter and this account legit and credible. -
Maybe I am drinking the Kool aid but naming Penix the starter feels different. For to long IU has gone the safe route and it has gotten us nowhere. Finally we are taking a risk with the raw talent which is a great change and makes me hopeful for a 7-8 win season. This reminds me of two years ago with IU soccer when I went to an exhibition game vs. Louisville. Watching that game I kept texting my friend that this team feels different and it was the first time I saw a team that really looked elite since the Jerry Yeagley days (and fans around me kept saying it's 'about time' when watching the team so I think everyone got that feeling). Two years later while it didn't result in a championship, it resulted in the two best seasons of elite soccer since Jerry left (yes they were better then the 2012 team who got hot and won title). While IU football is not on the same level and it may not result in a new years day bowl, four years of Penix makes me feel like something finally different and maybe we are a consistent bowl team for the next 4 years and we return to the Mallory era which is the best IU football has seen. Excited for the season!

The timing is terrible. So far Ballard has hit right on the money with every draft pick almost. Now, next year he has to hit the biggest of all in what will make or break his tenure with the next franchise QB. The worst thing would be for Brissett to overachieve this season and Colts signing him long term. Take your medicine this year and then let Ballard try to work his magic in the draft next year as he has so far with other picks.
